“That’s why I married you. Math,” Kara says, with full authority. Lena snorts. “You married me because my brother caught us alone in an orangery,” Lena says.

Lena is wearing a dress that, at first glance, seems almost modest. It’s black and long-sleeved, tightly fit in a turtleneck style, but not so tight that it looks painted on like some of Lena’s other pieces. The skirt goes all the way to her mid-calf. With her hair piled into a bun and a dark red lip, she looks like a perfect fantasy of a hot librarian. If she was wearing her glasses, Kara might be on her knees already.

What almost makes Kara shatter the laminated glass doors is that when Lena uncrosses her legs, the skirt parts to reveal a slit that goes almost to her hip. Underneath it, she’s wearing black suede heeled boots that go to the knee, leaving an expanse of perfectly soft thigh for Kara to stare at like some erotic game of peekaboo.

It takes considerable self-control to pull the door handle like a normal person.

“I wasn’t expecting to see you today,” Lena says. She rises from her chair, and the slit closes. Kara’s eyes fix there in the hopes that it might reveal itself again.

“Yeah. I…came here for a reason,” Kara says.

Lena raises an eyebrow. “And that reason is?”

Lena hums. “And here I thought you were supposed to be saving me, tonight.”

Kara blinks up from the food to Lena’s chest—oops—before meeting Lena’s eyes. “Save you?” she says. “Haha. What. Like, uh, like Supergirl? Or whatever?”

“No, silly,” Lena says, smiling so fondly at her that it makes Kara a little lightheaded. “As my bodyguard, of course.”

“Oh right! That’s me!” Kara grins, puffing out her chest and clicking her heels and keeping her eyeline firmly above Lena’s shoulders. “At your service, ma’am. Ready to guard your—um.” She halts. “Your… body,” she finishes, flinching.

Kara has never had phone sex before, but Lena has introduced her to more outlandish things before, with great success. Kara isn’t sure her dirty talk is quite up to the task, but she’ll never know if she doesn’t try, will she?

“Take it off?” Kara says.

It comes off a little timid, but the noise Lena makes is louder, this time. She obeys immediately, clearly putting the phone down to get out of the dress – Kara can hear the zipper sliding down through the phone, and then Lena getting back into bed. The immediacy of it, like Lena was just waiting for the request, sends a low shiver down Kara’s spine.

“It’s off,” Lena says, once she’s picked the phone back up.

Kara bites hard on her lower lip. It’s broad daylight in National City, and it feels like this is something that should be done under cover of night. “Are we doing what I think we’re doing?”

“That depends.”

“On?”

Lena pauses, and then Kara can hear the whisper of fingers on skin again. “Are you going to tell me what you’d do to me if you were here?”

“A basketball game,” Lana says skeptically, after hugging Lena in greeting. “Really? At least tell me there’s vodka.”

“I like everything,” Kara says quickly.

Lena quirks a brow. “Everything?”

“More or less. I just like to eat.”

“Italian?” Lena suggests, already pulling out her phone.

“Sounds great.”

Lena orders several dishes, some of which Kara has tried and others she hasn’t, and Kara is relieved that she seems to understand the volume Kara needs to eat, even on a date (is this a date? Does Lena see it that way?).

When it’s submitted and on the way, Lena sets her phone down on the island. Kara still hasn’t moved any closer.

“Looks like it’ll be about 45 minutes,” Lena says.

“Awesome.”

Lena drums her fingers on the countertop.

“So, um,” Kara says, her eyes trailing down the curve of Lena’s body against her will, “what do you want to do until then?”
