My personal headcanon is that among the 2003 turtles, Leo ends up being the shortest after his brothers hit their growth spurts.

It makes it easy for the other turtles to just yeet him around, so they come up with a game around it. They have to sneak up on Leo(hardest part of the challenge), toss him into the water(second part, points based on the aim and landing spot), and then run away from him as long as possible after he chases after them (third, and scariest part). Everyone gets individual points based on their performance, but they’re allowed to cooperate, since the first two steps are pretty hard to manage alone.

Can I just rant about Best Girl April for a bit? Can we talk about how she’s fearless, loves adventure, loves to joke, loves spooky things, has a strong sense of right and wrong, loyalty…but she’s awkward and loud, and not considered cool or taken seriously. Can I just say how relatable that is? To be a good person, to be authentic, but feel as though people don’t like you for who you are. To be overly friendly with everyone and want to be accepted…but you’re not “it,” whatever the kids in your school, family, community want and reward. April may not be canonically neurodivergent, but I always got the sense of how relatable she is. She is so strong, but the second she’s in social/normal situations, she fumbles. Can’t seem to make a single human friend.

But with the boys, she doesn’t have to be anything but herself. She love her, and they don’t expect her to be anyone else. Their love is unconditional, there is no expectation, they accept her eccentricities as much as she accepts theirs. People will tell me Rise is a silly show, but no one realizes how subtle it is in it’s righting, how it makes the characters complex without spoon feeding everything to you, how there’s layers in what they do, say, how they physically movie, visual gags about how they feel toward each other.

This show really deserves better and April is one of the best women characters I’ve seen in the last ten years. She does not need to be in a romantic relationship to be someone worthy of praise. She doesn’t need to hide her weirdness. She does not have to be overly girly, and yet can still be feminine. She does not care about stereotypical teenage garbage. She’s unique. She thrives on finding the truth, doing the right thing, being a force for good and does not let fear stand in her way. She deserves so much more love and development and GOD I love this comic for showing all of that!
