“NO! I CAN’T!” you screamed, collapsing onto the floor as your bouquet tumbled from your hands, your breathing came in short, frantic gasps as tears blurred your vision
your bridesmaids rushed toward you in a panic
“y/n, honey, please,” Nana pleaded, dropping to her knees beside you, she gently dabbed at your tear-streaked cheeks with a napkin, trying desperately to calm you down “everything’s okay, just breathe”
“IT’S NOT OKAY!” you cried, shaking your head violently
your shaking hands shot behind your back, desperately clawing at the zipper of your wedding gown
“GET THIS DAMN DRESS OFF OF ME! I DON’T WANNA DO THIS ANYMORE!”
“take it off!” you cried hysterically “take this fucking dress off me! I don’t want to do this anymore!”
the zipper refused to budge as your fingers fumbled in desperation
“Get it off!” you screamed again, tears blurring your vision. “please! somebody help me!”
“y/n! stop!” one of the girls gasped, grabbing your wrists before you could rip the fabric.
you fought against their hands, sobs wracking your body.
“i can’t marry him… i can’t…i can’t…”
“Y/N!” Rach exclaimed, kneeling directly in front of you, she cupped your trembling hands tightly in her. “look at me”
your eyes refused to meet hers
nothing. just gasping, pathetic hitches of breath...
you finally lifted your tear-filled eyes, your mascara running down your cheeks
“what is going on?” Rach asked softly, searching your face. “talk to us”
your bottom lip quivered as another loud sob escaped your chest “i can’t!” you wailed “i can’t do this!”
“y/n sweetheart, breathe,” Nana whispered, as she continued to gently wiped the tears streaming down your cheeks “everything’s going to be okay” “no!” you cried, violently shaking your head. “it’s not okay! none of this is okay!”
“please just take this fucking dress off me! I don’t want to wear it anymore!” “Y/N STOP” Rach said, snatching your from the dress once again
“i don’t want to marry him!” you sobbed
“I don’t love Ethan!” you cried, your voice echoing through the bridal suite “I never loved Ethan!”
Nana exchanged a worried glance with Rach
“i’m only doing this because my parents want me to!” you shouted, tears pouring uncontrollably “because he’s rich! because he’ll make the family look good! that’s all they’ve ever cared about!”
your shoulders shook as another sob escaped your lips “but I can’t do it…”
you buried your face in your hands “i can’t spend the rest of my life pretending”
Rach knelt directly in front of you and gently pulled your hands away from your face “then tell us who you do love”
your lip quivered “Michael!” you cried “i love Michael!”
“oh shit..” Nana whispered as a her hand came up to cover her mouth
“i’ve always loved Michael!” you sobbed. “every time i close my eyes, i see him and—and very time i imagine my future… it’s him standing at the end of the aisle. not Ethan!”
you doubled over, your body shaking with grief “i was supposed to marry Michael,” you whispered through broken sobs. “he’s the one i want! he’s the one i’ve always wanted”
the room was silent except for your cries
you stood at the altar beside Ethan, your bouquet trembling in your hands.
the minister smiled warmly “dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Ethan Caldwell and y/n…”
his words blurred into nothing, you couldn’t hear anything except the pounding of your own heart, you kept your eyes glued to the floor, refusing to look at the man waiting beside you
this was it…one more “i do,” and your life would never be yours again.
the minister turned toward Ethan
“ethan, do you take y/n to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward?”
“I do,” Ethan answered confidently
a chorus of soft “awws” echoed throughout the church
the minister nodded before turning to you
“and do you, y/n take Ethan to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward?”
you looked towards your family, then at the minister and then to Ethan “uhm…”
the massive wooden doors at the back of the cathedral slammed open with a deafening bang
every head snapped toward the entrance
standing there, chest heaving, tie hanging loose around his neck, was Michael.
his curls were damp with sweat as if he’d run every mile to get there
“Michael..?” you watched him start to slowly walk down the isle towards you
“I’ve tried to stay away and i’ve tried to convince myself you’d be happier without me, i even told myself that if you married somebody else… i’d eventually get over it”
“i lied…i can’t lose you”
your heart pounded against your chest.
“i know your parents don’t want me”
he glanced briefly toward them before looking back at you
“and i know Ethan can probably give you everything money can buy”
“but nobody…” he placed a hand over his heart “…is ever going to love you the way I do”
he looked up at you and reached his hand out
“y/n i love you and if you’ll have l me i want you to be my wife” he started as male family members began to crowd around him and build a wall in front of him
“what the hell are you doing!” Ethan yelled “please i love her!” Michael pleaded
“gone! get out of here!” your mouth shouted from her front row seat
your uncles and cousins began to push him back “will you have me Michael as your lawfully wadded husband from this day forward to have and to hold for richer and for poorer! PLEASE BABY PLEASE!”
“I DO I DO” you screamed, dropping your bouquet and walking towards him
“WAIT SHE SAID I DO” your mother yelled “TO WHO?!” the minister replied
you looked back at Ethan and dropped his hand “Ethan i’m sorry..i can’t do this”
you ran towards Michael and jumped into his arms, he lifted you up and spun you around
“IS ANYONE GETTING MARRIED TODAY!” the minister yelled throwing his hands in the air
“US!” Michael replied running back down the isle with you, pushing Ethan out the way
“by the power invested in a i pronounce you y/n and Michael husband and wife you may ki—”
Michael dipped you and immediately kissed you
you stood up and ran out the building hand in hand
