A better, more positive Tumblr
Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.
Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).
Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.
So what is changing?
Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.
Why are we doing this?
It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.
Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.
So what’s next?
Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.
Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.
Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.
Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

Your structure is planned out to a T.
First you open up with words about the founder and inspiring a generation. Next you rip the band-aid off and tell us that you'll be banning adult content, which includes things like a picture of a dick, two people fully clothed laying over one another with sex eyes(Sexually explicit), etc. After which you try to justify that by saying you want to stop child porn.
Excise me, what!? We can all agree on cracking down on child porn, anyone how doesn't agree with that should probably be investigated. We all can also agree that we should protect children, that's fine. But that's not what you're doing here. You already said "We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content.", so that’s not being updated in this new change. The only thing you're adding is the banning of adult content.
So starting off, you're priming us, as defined; “Priming is a technique whereby exposure to one stimulus influences a response to a subsequent stimulus, without conscious guidance or intention.” That old joke where I make you say toast a lot, than ask you what you put in a toaster. Same thing, just on a small scale.
"so our new policy strives to strike a balance", after reading the "Adult Content" section, I can say that’s trash. "Certain types of artistic, educational, newsworthy, or political content featuring nudity are fine" Any definitions for those? How do you define artistic? Is something teaching me how to do sexual acts, educational? Define those things, in detail. You said you can't post anything sexual with real people in it, than you said the same thing, but without the "real person" thing attached, so, we can't post anything, in any format, that is sexually explicit, unless it falls into the above undefined categories, most of which are subjective.
"(Nice try, though)" No one is drawing a photo-realistic breast to try and get past your ban. You're not our friend, don't try to be cute.
What about text. Can I post in vivid detail, my sexual conquests? May I describe my genitalia in a thousand words? Can I post an erotic novel? Or are you just kowtowing to some piss poor worried parents, who are too absentee to watch over their own kids internet usage? I can just type "pornhub" into the browser, and I can see all the sex I want. This is the internet, there is nothing a website can do to stop someone from looking at sex. This isn't going to fix kids looking at sex things. It's just going to piss off the vast majority of your base, and ruin your site. Then teens will go to a different site to look at sexually explicit stuff.
You'll never read this shit anyways, but on the small chance that even one tumblr staffer does. Remember this little bit of information.
Myspace was a thing, once.
Blockbuster was a thing, once.
We don't care about the name, or the company. We care about what we get out of the product, if you stop giving us that something, we will find a new product. You need us to survive, not the other way around. Remember that when the next big thing comes along and steals your business from under you. You sowed the seeds of your own demise.
“For 500,000 KRW (443 USD), an Uncle Service will send a rough-looking, hulking man to your bullied kid’s school to warn the bullies to stop picking on them – or else. This is called the “Uncle Package.” If you’re feeling spendier, the 400,000 KRW (354 USD) “Evidence Package” involves the “uncle” making a video-recording of the bullies in action, then showing it to the school administrators and demanding action on pain of having the video released to the school board. The top tier is the 2 million KRW (1,772 USD) “Chaperone Package”: the “uncle” will picket in front of the bullies’ parents’ place of work, bellowing “A parent of a bully works here.” https://boingboing.net/2018/09/15/violence-inherent-in-the-syste.html

okay, as a straight guy I have a complaint
This stuff is always the most difficult to handle. Most people would like to fire back with something about how it doesn’t help progressive movements to spread a toxic belief like this. The rhetoric of “All men” or the above “A group of men is called a threat”. This dæmonizes the subjects of those comments, those being anyone who identifies as a man, in whole or parts. Which when such comments can be implying or saying in plain text, that men are rapists, or otherwise bad for the fact of being a man, those people will often take offense, and move to the defensive, if not only for themselves.
The same thing works the other way around. When people say statements like, “Women are emotional and irrational” or “Lesbians just want to be men”, it doesn’t do anything but make those affected by those comments angry and defensive. Most of the time, it would seem that when these comments are said about men, they come from women who support or are in active work with movements like Feminism. They are trying to fix the social problems around gender and sex, however, when these comments are made, they devalue the cause they are fighting for; one part, for themselves, as they have done something contradictory to their cause, and one part because a common reply to said comments, is to attack the cause the person fights for, as if one member of a group speaks for the whole.
The difficult part is that, to simply tell someone to not say these things, isn’t fully taking in the scope of the problem. It is an oppressed group which has to try and act 100% perfect all the time, so that any opposition can’t make an Ad Hominem argument. This is a high stress situation to be in, and one that can have someone lash out from time to time. It is understandable for them to vent. So it becomes, don’t vent, which negatively effects you, or vent, which also negatively effects you. It is a lose lose situation.
To add on to the above. When such comments are made, they also end up effecting people who earnestly do not act in such a manner. It makes me think back to the arguments I had when I was a child. Were someone would blame something on you, though you didn’t do it. The other person (a parent in this case) would insist that it was okay, that if you just told the truth you’d be let off easy. You continue to insist your innocents, and become emotional. They would then use your emotional state as proof of your lie. It seems like a Post hoc argument. Because you are now emotional, after being accused, you must reacting to your own guilt. Which is a dangerous assumption to make.
Finally, these statements can cause wholly negative effects on those they affect. Anything from simply becoming an opposition to the cause of the person who made the comment, to more dramatically, depression. The latter stemming from thoughts of doubt sowed into the person through the logic of, I’m not X, but they said I was X, what if I just don’t know that I am X. It becomes the blame game, and those being blamed can suffer from it.
To finish this all off, All Men, All Women, All Straight, All Gay, No, no, no, and no. To make such swiping assumptions and generalizations against an entire group of people is silly. It hinders the progressive causes around these subjects, upsets all sides of the debate, is contradictory to the messages of the progressive causes about the subject, and can cause more harm than good for all involved. Though as is the thesis statement here, it does no good to also blame those who lash out. The stress involved makes it understandable to lash out. It almost sounds like I’m saying don’t say anything at all, and I understand if you read it like that, cause this is very hard to talk about and it seems like you’re fucked if you and and fucked if you don’t no matter what. TL:DR, be nice to each other, and don’t blame things on the whole for the sins of the few.

GOODBYE DRAGON BALL SUPER, Thoughts on episode 131 the Series Finale
I had alot and i mean A LOT of words to say about the DragonBall Super series finale! Here yall go if you are interested.
Reblogs appreciated
DBS was a dumpster fire, that popped off some fireworks every now and again, that would fly into the air, pop, and fizzle out.
There were so neat ideas, handled extremely poorly, and tones of missed opportunities for better and more fulling story arcs.
Ideas were neat, the execution was trash, animation was all over the place, the story completely muddled, with new events being pulled out of the writing teams ass last minute with no lead in, build up, or foreshadowing.
I hate to say these things at Dragon Ball as a series, but this didn’t do DB or DBZ justice, and honestly, that isn’t a high bar to clear.
How fucking dare you! To think you have earned the right to make such a fucking reference, after giving us 131 reasons to stop watching anything you put out.
