Oneohtrix Point Never - Dim Stars

New single from Oneohtrix Point Never showcases more remnants from the Tranquilizer sessions. On the B-side is the extended version of For Residue, previously only available on Japanese CD editions.

Dim Stars possesses many of the same textures as on Tranquilizer, with jittery pads and chord stabs reminiscent of Modern Lust. The resulting groove feels like a disjointed and slowed down deep house track, albeit one that has lost all drums except for the kick. The classic M1 organ preset even makes an appearance, reinforcing the bass. Vinyl crackle and warped nature recordings build the rest of the world around us while the synthesized and the acoustic dance closely with each other. I'm particularly a big fan of when the jazzy guitar is allowed the center stage following what I believe is Lopatin's signature Juno-60. And then, in much of the same fashion as the rest of the songs on Tranquilizer, it all somehow seamlessly dissipates into nothingness, as quickly as it appeared.
