Greed and selfishness ruin the world.
You live with your partner and your parents in a house for rent. You have your own apartments, it's just the same house. You all were doing okay financially. Nothing fancy but it's enough. You also have pets. No problem.
Then, Covid hits. Wars start. Everyone and their grandma loses their marbles. Prices go WAY up for everything. Your elderly/disabled parents have to start working again and you just got laid off because the company you worked for went bankrupt and your job is pretty niche, which means it might take some time to find something new and you gotta do some side hustles and get benefits for a while.
You check the news and a recurring topic is the housing market getting more and more ass. Thank goodness, you think. I don't have to think about that.
Out of the blue, you receive an eviction notice. Landlord wants to do complex renovations and then god knows what. You have nine months.
Visibly scared, you start checking the housing market. To save money, you guys decide to stay together and look for a house (good luck finding apartments that allow pets), preferably close so the jobs can be kept.
Super high rent everywhere. For what all of you pay in total atm you might get a small 3bedroom apartment if anything. And if there's something affordable, it won't allow pets or the landlord doesn't want low-income people. Or there's so many applicants, the smallest thing will disqualify you. Or a mix of everything.
When you ask for advice, you get told that you'll have to give up your pets. HELLO?! THEY'RE FAMILY AND OUR DOG IS MY HUSBAND'S EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. Yes this story was about my situation. And I'm ANGRY.
Back then, when you had pets people would tell you to rent a house. But now they're not even welcome there anymore. Those few who let their pets do damage ruin it for everyone and it makes me sick.
"Children are okay, but pets?!?!? THE NERVE. And low-income/benefits people?! HELLLLL NO. They always paid rent and never caused any trouble but fk that, I want people who are basically at work the whole day and only use the house for sleeping!!!111"
And yes, finding affordable apartments that allow dogs is pretty much impossible aswell.
I mean, our lawyer said the eviction is invalid and he'll have to send us a valid one, which hasn't happened yet, but still. I don't feel welcome here anymore. But idk where to go. We've been searching since the end of January and I'm scared what's gonna happen now that it's November and the nine months are up.
I'm anxious ever since and I haven't felt one single day of peace. I don't understand. Back then in 2006 when we moved here, it didn't take long at all to find this house and nobody gave a damn if you had a pet. We had a dog and a cat at that time.
I just want this resolved.
I live in Germany and it's just HORRIBLE. We're NOT giving our pets away.
