After everything we've endured, I am finally able to return to the north of Gaza, where our homes once stood, now reduced to rubble. I’m reaching out to you because I need help. The cost of transporting my family and our belongings is extremely high, and unfortunately, we can't afford it on our own. There are no tents in the north, and buying new ones there isn’t an option. I can’t leave our things behind; they are all we have left.

My heart is tied to that place, to the sky above our home, even if it’s uninhabitable. I miss it so deeply, and I need to be there with my loved ones, surrounded by what’s left of our life. I aspired to study a master's degree in my specialty, so that I could build a better future, and get a stable job that would help me provide a decent life for my family. But the dream collided with a painful reality; I lost my beautiful home, which was our safety shelter, and my job that would have opened the door to life again was lost for me.

Half of my friends were martyred in this cruel war, the other half between wounded or detained. I feel that the dream is moving away, and that danger is approaching from every side, but despite the pain and loss, I hold on to hope.

Today I appeal to you, sincerely from the bottom of my heart, to stand with me. My family is in danger, and my young daughter deserves a safe life away from this nightmare. Hello, I'm Wasim from Gaza, in Al-Mawasi specifically... My family and I were displaced from Rafah after hardship, bombing, displacement, and hunger.😭😔

Now we have been away from our city and our beautiful home for 9 months. We have lost our house that my father built stone by stone and he worked 24/7 to build this house. But the occupation destroyed it, and no house remained in my beautiful city remained intact.😭💔💔

We are now living in a tent or semi-tent, which does not protect us from the cold of winter or the rain. Our lives are very difficult.😔😭

Thanks to your donations, we have been able to buy food and flour, and now I am asking you for help to buy a tent that will protect us from the cold of winter. We do not know what it means to sleep because of the extreme cold.🥶

Now, my children and I are refugees in a new city, trying to find a way to rebuild from nothing. We have lost not just our home and possessions but also our sense of security and hope. My children ask me daily when we can go home, but I have no answer for them. The war has taken everything from us.

Some of my initial takeaways are:

this ceasefire is temporary (as of right now, six weeks long). negotiations will continue but israel is not offering guarantees about continued non-violence. BDS remains important. be vigilant, keep pressure up

rafah crossing will open one week after the initial phase starts

israel will release 2000 prisoners

more aid will get to northern gaza, look out for ways you can help

if the second phase is initiated, israel will do a complete withdrawal from gaza. which means the initial phase will not include that. again i say: BE VIGILANT

if the third phase is reached, reconstruction will begin "under international supervision"

nothing is over, even if this is a relief. do not tape out, do not tune out.
