i see posts here about how people are so mortified when they are acknowledged as being a regular customer somewhere that they never return. cowards. the employees at taco bell treat me like a celebrity. like royalty. i am their strange little pet customer who gets traded along as staff comes and goes. they know my car before i even speak in the drive-thru speaker. today i was 2 hours late and she ran over and squealed that she "thought i'd left them!" and that she "made my order with extra love!" and you what, she did
it's funny that this is getting notes again, because last night i went to the thai place in my neighborhood. it's run by a family and during covid times i ate there literally almost every day. later i cut back on eating out so much and hadn't been there in two years but last night we went and ate inside for the first time ever and the owner ran over to say hello and ask how i was, and repeated our old regular order. it was sweet. it's so easy to feel like you are an island, but stuff like this reminds you that you are part of a community.
One time i went to the bakery near my home and just as i entered the put out a fresh tray of spinach cheese ham crossiants, and when i ordered one they just told me its on the house
fursona time
Actually you know what. I think my squirrelsona needs some piebald on em somewhere.
Yeah, that's it.
When I grow up, I want to express my alterhumanity as much as I can.
I want alterhuman kids and teens to see that they are not alone.
That they are not "confused", that they can too grow up and have a good life.
I want to wear my gear in public.
I want to get tattoos representing my identity.
I want to be unapologetically myself.
And I will.
As an adult, I for one am living your dream of being open with my non-human identity in public by gearing and being unapologetically myself, and so far I have inspired younger alter humans/non-humans by being themselves, I also do community work by working at the shelter, I hope to be a role model for others.

YES. YES YES YES THANK YOU
You don't have to force yourself to bounce back so quickly. I read something recently that said "when you come in from a rainstorm, you don't expect yourself to be dry and warm right away", and it really resonated with me. It's okay to take time to dry off and warm up. Take the time you need to process what happened to you.

Self-Discovery isn’t going to be found scrolling online.
Put the phone down and listen to your mind and body.
Be with yourself for a little bit.
Go outside. Read a book. Let your eyes rest. Let your mind rest.
It's funny when people act like Earth was made for humans. Because like, have you seen the Earth? This place was made for saltwater fish.
Yes humans evolved to live here too, but if we're entertaining the idea that an all powerful deity created the earth for any particular species, it's definitely gotta be something from the ocean.
I'm just saying. If you're looking at a place like "who was this made for?" And around 70% of its surface is not habitable, and actively hostile, to your species, then it's a safe bet it's not you.

Working an office job and the loss of my animality
Soft CW: Slightly venty
Around this time last year, I got a promotion that I had been working really hard to earn in order to make a bit more money and make use of the Bachelor's in Finance that I earned in college. When I finally had the interview and was told I got the job, I noticed that my happiness pretty quickly went down the drain with my "success" which isn't uncommon with office jobs, but it dragged my therianthropy down with it.
I've felt like an animal since I was just a little girl, running around on 4 legs and carrying animal plushies by the scruffs as I called them my babies. I loved raw meat, spending all day in a cardboard box outside, playing games where I was an animal, and soaking my scent with petrichor and pine needles. I longed to live in tune with the seasons, moving with the cycle of spring to summer, summer to fall, fall to winter. I held, and still hold, deep empathy for every animal and all of the roles within an ecosystem, but I no longer understand my place in it, what I'm supposed to be, or where I'm meant to fit in. Honestly, that brings me a lot of shame since I'm always a perfectionist and feel like I can't make mistakes, so it feels like an insane burden to always be questioning myself and wondering what happened. Wondering why I can't just... Understand myself, and why it's so hard.
This is precisely why I'll never work in a corporate office ever again. Even for orthohumans it's a soul-sucking, oppressive environment that's as at odds with individual happiness and the natural world as you can get.
I don't know if you're open to advice, but I just want to tell you that I've been where you are, and that it can get better. I ended up writing a bunch so I'm sticking it under a readmore.
What's the first thing you would go do if you got turned into a theriform of your species right now, where you currently are? What's stopping you from doing it? Make time and effort to indulge in the animal activities you desire, even if your body isn't quite right. If it's something you physically can't do, what is the closest thing to it that you can do? Often we have pretty humble and feasible initial desires.
This is an easy first step in actually doing things to experience your nonhumanity instead of just being a consumer and posting online.
And don't get all defeatist on me about it until you've tried it. I know it likely won't be perfect, be it on account of your body, your environment, or any other factors, but you can still make changes for the better in your life without them being perfect. Doing it part way is better than not doing it at all.
Let the beast stretch its limbs. I believe in you. You are stronger than you know.
