i dunno if you've talked about this before but the entire structure of chapter 5 centering the party as the antagonists i think absolutely says volumes about what kris is feeling about their role at this point
yeah absolutely... its fascinating how much flowery seems to Dislike kris. like, kris created a darkner who knows all their sins and is actively judging them without ever quite giving the game away
its 2026 i cannot handle any more fucking "author A obviously ripped off author B" discourse by people Who Have Only Seen the work of author B and admit themselves that they have no further knowledge of the literary landscape they are moving in. like.
Freeman v. Wolff is basically just one author claiming the presence of common genre tropes in another author's work is proof of infringement. And the judge absolutely was not having it, and gave us so many fantastic quotes in the process:
"Freeman contends that the works are substantially similar because both take place in a high school in Alaska. Alaska is a place known to the public, so setting a novel in Alaska is not copyrightable. Neither is setting a novel about teenagers in a high school."
"Each heroine also has a biracial gay male friend, both of whom are charismatic and charming and occasionally provide comic relief. But none of these traits is copyrightable."
"Hot, sexy, dangerous boys â central to virtually all young adult romance novels â cannot be copyrighted."
The yarn I got is definitely too thin :(
With how thin the yarn is, I can either achieve the plaid effect I want by pulling the warp in towards the center and using a comb to beat the weft since the beater is now way too wide, or I can allow the warp to remain at its natural width and completely lose the plaid effect and just end up with stripes.
Time to get thicker yarn and try again tomorrow... This time I'm going to use #4 yarn instead of #2.
finally finished building the loom.
i'm pretty sure the design i'm using is some kind of frankenstein of a table loom and a rigid heddle loom. it has two shafts, both of which have rigid heddles, with one being able to raise the "even" warp strings and the other being able to raise the "odd" warp strings (and neither being able to lower any warp strings). the two shafts can be raised/lowered independently of each other, but a shed only forms if you raise one and lower the other, so there isn't much point to raising our lowering both at once.
you can only do a 6" wide plain weave with it, which is just fine for what i have in mind (a red and black plaid scarf)
but man... that eight shaft 11" 3d printed loom is calling to me like the green goblin mask...
i must not start a new project.
starting a new project is the current project killer.
ohh so cool!! good luck with your weaving!! can you post a pic of your loom? I love seeing homemade looms so much
Here it is! I used this design I found online!

I now understand why my mom loved going to Jo-Ann's (back when it existed)
took me all morning, but the loom is warped!
this loom can only do 48 warp threads... i cannot fathom how tedious it would be to warp a full sized floor loom. would probably take me literal *days* just to set up a 40" 8 DPI loom.
i think i deeply underestimated how thick the yarn should be... for my next project, i'll definitely have to buy thicker yarn. right now, the warp looks kind of thin. is it supposed to look like that? hopefully it'll bulk up once i start putting weft on it, but my weft yarn is pretty lightweight too...

Finally got to sit down and start building my loom, only to find that I had somehow printed two copies of shaft B, instead of one copy of shaft A and one copy of shaft B. And it double-sucks, because the shafts are the second longest parts to print (the longest parts to print are the roller beams).
Suppose I'll just have to take a break and resume construction in a couple hours.
how to remember warp vs weft:
weft: the shuttle goes right to weft đ
warp: setting up the loom warps your soul into a heinous, hideous thing fueled by frustration, spite, and hatred

Superman is quite possibly my favorite fictional character of all time, so I'm really glad that you're enjoying My Adventures With Superman so far.
Is MAWS Clark supposed to be a himbo? Because I'm really feeling like Clark's a himbo. And I'm kinda here for it.
Do you ever just think about how the quest to save Vaugarde would have been in vain if the loops didnât happen? Do you ever think about how even if the party could find all the keys and defeat the King without the shield Siffrin would still just be fully dead? They wouldâve won but it still wouldnât feel like victory. Do you ever think about the sort of twisted imposter syndrome Siffrin must feel, and then by extension Mirabelle when she learns how royally fucked they all wouldâve actually been, how they wouldâve failed in several ways before even seeing the King? Should they truly be considered saviors? Or do you think that Siffrin might try (and fail miserably) to keep it a secret so she wonât feel that way and instead carry the guilt all on their ownâŚ.hmmmmmâŚâŚ.hmmmmmmâŚâŚâŚmuch to think aboutâŚâŚ
Just started brainstorming how to make a loom that could automatically lift individual warp threads in an arbitrary pattern, and quickly realized I was basically reinventing a Jacquard loom just with servos instead of hooks and a griff. Maybe I should learn some of the history in depth before throwing myself into the deep end...
my mentor always told me, "don't reinvent the wheel".
He didn't say shit about looms though, I say just get crazy with it

Currently using my 3D printers to build a small two-shaft table loom.
The irony of one of the most advanced consumer-grade manufacturing technologies being used to build a loom of all things is not lost on me. (Not that looms aren't amazing pieces of technology in their own right! It's just the contrast of extremely modern tech being used to build tech that's existed for centuries)
I currently have no idea how to use a loom. I haven't done fiber crafts since I did knitting as a kid. My current goal is to make a trivet, since the loom I'm printing can only produce fabric that's maybe ~6 inches across... If it turns out that I enjoy the craft, maybe I'll make a second loom that's wide enough for washcloths and such.
Tbh I think the "but data centers are important infrastructure, not just AI" talking point misses that like
Ok so roads are important infrastructure. A lot of stuff that's important happens on roads. Now, let's imagine that quadrillionaire Matt Stench has decided that the next big tech innovation is the Wide Car. It's a car that takes up six lanes despite seating only one passenger.
The Wide Car is supposed to be the future, and everyone's going to be driving Wide Cars, even though nobody who makes Wide Cars is turning a profit. Employers are offering Wide Cars as an employee benefit, and getting "nah." Some employers are going as far as demanding their employees drive Wide Cars, and the result is that people take time out of their workdays to get in the mandatory gas usage for their Wide Car before driving home in a regular car.
In spite of the fact that the Wide Car is clearly set to fail, there's an enormous push to expand to twelve-lane roads to accommodate a bunch of Wide Cars that simply will not materialize. This is not an organic response to demand, but a speculative investment that amplifies the existing issues with road development for no good reason.
That is the problem.
