For the LOVE of Pamela Love

I first fell in love with her while watching the CFDA on Hulu+. She is AMAZING! The kind of person that has light all around her! You can’t help but fall in love with her. With her cool bohemian rocker style! Mixing soft fabrics with biker boots and a motorcycle jacket, all the while rocking her beautiful jewelry. She didn’t win the CFDA, which if you don’t know what it is, it is The Council of Fashion Designer of America, Inc. Each year the CFDA has a national competition in which different designers submit their portfolio, a group of designers are chosen and eventually there is a winner!!! Hurray! Now, Pamela didn’t win BUT she was a finalist in the CFDA 2011. As a finalist she was able to collaborate with Jcrew, ShopStyle, and Nine West to name a few.

She is a New York native and started making jewelry in 2006.  And how great is this, “The line is committed to sustainability and localized production. All gemstones and semiprecious stones are ethically sourced and almost all metal used is recycled. The entire jewelry-making process, from design to sampling to full-scale production, is completed domestically with the majority of it done in-house at Pamela Love’s Manhattan studio.” That is per her website. She is heavily influenced by the Southwest, which may be why I love her design so much. I am from Santa Fe, NM and in the past I have stated my favorite color to be turquoise. I can’t help it! It’s in my BLOOD!!! Well, kind of, I mean, imagine being from Mexico and moving to New Mexico and combining BOTH cultures?! They sometimes blend, but many times they have their distinct personalities, their own styles; this encompasses why I absolutely adore Pamela Love’s design.

Holy water

Because it is SPRING, and I’m in the dirty South, it is WAAAAARM outside and I can’t stop thinking about pool time! Splish splashing around! Maybe a margarita in one hand, sunnies, fedora, flippies, and sunscreen (of course!) A few weeks ago I discovered a great line of swimsuits, Agua Bendita. A beautiful Colombian swimwear brand, their colorful culture is reflected in their beautiful prints.  The craftsmanship of the couture line is absolutely amazing; each bead, sequence is hand woven by its country’s artisans.

The combination of their sleek design and traditional artistry is divine. Fun youthful swimwear, shoes, and wraps!

Beautiful things come in small packages...

We all know there are wonderful fashionistas throughout the world, but there is one pint size lady that steals my fashionista heart, ALWAYS! Enter Miroslava Duma!

Because some may not know who she is, I will do my best to enlighten you about this fashion crush of mine. Miroslava, or Mira, is a Russian wonder! Though pint size, she serves a BIG fashion punch! Her creds include editor of Harper’s Bazaar (Russia) and some freelance gigs at publications such as OK Magazine (Russia), Tatler, and Glamour (Russia). She has also started a fashion forward website, Buro 24/7. They not only share great fashion news but also tap into news on culture, movies, music, beauty, etc! It’s a great one stop shop if, you’re looking for a refreshing fashion outlet. The best thing, for me, is that it is a Russian website. It’s a new spin on some day to day things, seeing the Russian POV. If, you are a fashion aficionado, you will love it! Check it out!  I also want to mention she is also involved in charity work, working with orphan children and the elderly; a beautiful balance!

As for tiny Mira, I absolutely love her sense of style! To me it’s ageless in terms of silhouettes but she puts a spin on it; mixing textures, colors, accessories. Follow her on Instagram and see for yourself! Take what you can and apply it to your style. 

Whenever I think of spring I think of florals, stripes, sparkles, banana splits, kiddie pools, you know, the norm! What I’m getting at here, is that spring makes me think of PATTERN! Mixing a beautiful pastel pattern with rich hues, floral and stripes, texture on texture, AH! If, you know me personally, you know I am instantly attracted to anything pattern; which becomes a problem when I’m looking in my closet for that “simple T” or a plain blouse? REAL LIFE PROBLEMS! (Editor’s note: I hope you can read the sarcastic tone I am using here.) So, because we are on the subject of beautiful patterns, I thought I’d share some of my favorite designers!  OR designers I have recently been stalking and the beautiful Solange Knowles, that rocks a pattern like nobody’s business!!!

Let’s start with Solange

Sigh…I LOVE every single thing about this video! But the girl’s clothes, PERFECTION!

Mrs. Solange is a lover of MSGM. They have an array of statement pieces, all colorful and beautiful. In this case, if you are afraid of too much pattern, you can choose your favorite pattern piece and pair it with something more subdued. You can still have fun with it! Instead of reaching for your favorite denim, reach for a pant/jean in a colored hue.

Another favorite that I have recently discovered is Russian designer, Alena Akhmadullina. The collections are just DEVINE! They incorporate pattern in their textiles so you don’t have to give it too much thought.  You don’t have to waste your time thinking of how to mix patterns, because they’ve already done it for you!  Just put on the garment, favorite lipstick and GOOOO!

And last but not least, Duro Olowu. He is a Nigerian-born designer with beautiful color combos and AMAZING tailoring. His pieces are timeless and absolutely breath-taking! What I would do for such pieces?!!?  Give my first child away???  Ha ha (FYI, I don’t have kids) 

Kórima

I imagine some may be wondering what “kórima” means. Those who are familiar with the Tarahumara people, or have read Born to Run, will know the meaning. That may not be many of you, which is cool, I’ll explain!  The Tarahumara people live in the northwest part of Mexico. I, being from Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico, grew up seeing these kind people throughout the city. They are humble, hard working people, who believe in caring for each other, in being a community. The Tarahumara don’t have a monetary system; they use “kórima” as a way to barter. There is not a direct translation to English. It is their way of life, their sense of karma. They believe it is your obligation to share what you can spare without expectations. Once it has left your hands, it was never yours to begin with.

I love the meaning of the word, being able to give without expectation. How beautiful is that? I am giving you a little part of me, a little sass, spunk, COLOR, light, something to take your mind off of things, a reason to dream of wonderful things. I’m doing this without expecting you to like me, because I know, you’ll LOVE ME!

Yes, a woman! This blog is an e-file for all the lovely/beautiful things that grasp my attention, which sadly, does not take much!
