Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of yearsâfar longer than settlers have been in Canadaâand made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotÄn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racismâlike Kashechewanâbecause it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, menâs and womenâs joggers (all sizes), childrenâs clothing (newborn to size 14), childrenâs shoes, summer clothing, menâs clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food

Wow. I didnât realize there was that much damageâŚall I knew was that the air quality in my area had gotten very bad and gave me a headache. Finally heard it was from fires in Canada, but hadnât heard exactly what happened till I saw this.
Iâll have to see if I can donate after payday, but in the meantime I will reblog.

hope âcheaper eggs and gasâ was worth it.
EDIT: i removed the âtrump refused to swear on the bibleâ point because it was being taken as me being an offended christian. iâm not christian, im agnostic. the reason i included it in the first place is because heâs the first president in history to ever refuse to swear on ANYTHING. meanwhile his âconservative christianâ followers had no issue with this, and decided to continue to scramble for excuses instead of admitting he may not be as religious as he claims he is. i figured taking that point out entirely is probably better than filling this with an explanation in the middle of the other important issues.
Except theyâre not really investigating because the blood on the street is not cordoned off as a crime scene or anythingâŚ
i hate it when people mistake "etymology" with "entomology." like, i know where they coming from but it still bugs me
Gee, who knew
ChatGPT uses too many dream sequences and Gemini wonât stop describing characters.
AI also more often avoids subplots and fails to play with time jumps and flashbacks. The systems overwrite passages about the body and senses. âWhere a human author might write that a character âfelt afraid,â AI renders fear as a tightening chest, cold sweat, and dimming lamplight,â the study said. Humans also spin more complicated narratives involving more characters and locations than AI can handle. Humans also reference other works of fiction, specific people and places in a way that AI struggles with.
Surprise. (Not.)
Something that annoys me is the constant whining about "more queer spaces, more queer communities" but then they're immediately like "yeah! And we need ones that don't cost money or require a purchase!"
Girl that's exactly why they close down after a year. You NEED money to keep these places open. There's no magic Gay Money Pot with endless cash to keep these places open. It requires YOU to put your money where your values are!!
Like there was a queer coffee shop in my city. Owned and operated by a bunch of LGBT people. Not a cishet on the schedule. Tons of young people raved about it.
And it made it about 2 years before shutting down completely. Because all those young people who begged for a place exactly like this would just show up, not buy a single thing, and leave. You cannot build a community without putting your money into it. This isn't about capitalism, this is just reality. You can't open a restaurant where no one buys your food. You can't have a gay bar that only serves 5% of the population and actively excludes everyone else. This is what I mean when I say people confuse "community" and "friend group." You're not obligated to spend money when hanging out with your friend group. But if you want a lasting community centered space, you need to open up that wallet.
...it kind of is about capitalism though and how capitalism killed third spaces. Yes bars and coffee shops and clubs need money, and there is a difference between friend groups and community; but also there used to be places that were not a business to go.
If capitalism didn't make it so the only option was "spend money at a business or don't exist in public" then a ton of people who don't have money to spend would have other places to go and be able to organize meet ups for free at those spaces.
People need third spaces and they don't exist anymore, as a result of capitalism, and acting like everyone is just being entitled brats, instead of the queer community having poor economic outcomes across the board, and facing large amounts of hostility in many public spaces combined with a lack of third spaces overall making a ton of people treat the very few non hostile areas as third spaces (something that's common in every community, cis hetro folks treat startbucks as a third space too) is ignoring pretty much every driving factor of the problem.
Idk how to tell you this, but "third spaces" have always needed money and resources and this fact pre-dates the invention of capitalism.
Churches run on tithes, because they need money to maintain the building and services.
Ye olde pub still needed to sell drinks and food to stay open. This is true in 2026, and it was true in 1600.
To a lesser extent, public parks still need tax money. You don't pay at point of service, but the resources have to come from SOMEWHERE. Someone has to maintain the grass and walking trails and playground equipment.
People keep trying to "WELL ACTUALLY âď¸" this basic and irrefutable fact. These spaces need resources, aka money. You can have fun fantasizing about a future post-money utopia, but we don't live in that world so can we please keep it focused here.

You'll doubtless want to turn this off in your Instagram...
Vie the NYT:
When Meta unveiled an artificial intelligence image generator called Muse Image on Tuesday, it came with a feature that let users create A.I. images based on peopleâs Instagram photos. Any adult with a public Instagram account was automatically opted in. Using the Meta AI app, the companyâs stand-alone chatbot, other users could pull from âpart or all of your published photosâ to create new A.I. images, the company wrote in a blog post. âIn addition, people may be able to create content with your Instagram content using A.I. features at Meta,â the company added. Hereâs how it works: On the Meta AI app, a user can tag a public Instagram account and direct the chatbot to create new A.I. photos based on photos from that personâs account. The privacy backlash was immediate. Along with automatically enrolling users in the feature, Meta didnât notify people when their accounts were used to generate A.I. images. Hundreds of users took to social media to decry the new feature, asking how they could opt out while criticizing the company for a lack of consent. One user said on social media that the feature was âa privacy landmine waiting to detonate,â while others on Instagram shared templates for how to disable it. A Meta spokesman said in a statement that private accounts and users under 18 were excluded from the new feature, which can be disabled âwith just a couple clicks.â âWe will take action against any content that violates our Community Standards,â the company added. What can I do about this? The easiest way to opt out and protect your account is to set your account to private. But if youâd like to keep your account public, go into Instagramâs settings and scroll down to the âshare and reuseâ tab. In the sections titled âAllow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features,â toggle the setting to âoff.â You can also change the A.I. settings for individual pictures and videos. Users cannot stop their audio, text and comments from being âreusedâ by Metaâs A.I., the company said.
As anti-AI as I am, whether we're talking about fanfiction or art, I don't think we should be going to other people's blogs to harass them. Let them tag their work as AI-generated, and the people who want to engage with that kind of content will, while those who don't can simply avoid it. I think that's a better approach than shaming. Otherwise, people will just stop tagging their AI content to avoid harassment, and then we'll end up with a witch hunt instead.
I wish there was a way to completely OPT OUT of GEN AI. Like you could set your ENTIRE Internet browser to NOT shove it down your throat.
When social media was getting big, you could just NOT get a Facebook or a Twitter. It was simple as that. You can't do that with GEN AI.
Trying to find a job? It goes straight to an AI filter. Trying to look at art? Here's 100+ ai shit. Trying to look up who was in what movie from the 1980s? GOOGLE GEMINI IS HERE WITH THE COMPLETELY WRONG ANSWER!
Someone PLEASE create a way to allow people to get GEN AI the FUCK OUT of our lives if we DO NOT WANT IT!
Get used to getting dismissed
These are credible academic articles that I encourage you to read as opposed to using artificial intelligence as your source.
AI cites its sources. Given your inability to comprehend things so simple, get used to getting dismissed.
He follows up:
You didn't show the rest of my ask detailing academic articles to read....
I dismissed the articles you sent. You did not contest any specific claims of mine, which is all that matters.
AI is not yet fully accurate
Neither are humans, so by your incompetent logic, you will have to dismiss everything humans say. That is all the anti-AI stupidity for which I have time today. I am ignoring any follow-ups from you. You anti-AI people are dumb as hell. Your futures are bleak.
and if it cites a source, would it not be wise to check that source yourself to make sure it's reliable?
Unnecessary: your failure to contest any of my specific claims is all that matters. My claims stand unchallenged, which is all I ever set out to accomplish.
(After that, he came at me from a different account, still contesting none of my specific claims and moreover still showing no comprehension of any word of any of my articles, so I blocked him. I have no fear he will ever challenge any of my specific claims, which is all that matters.)
Confused what side OP is on.
I will say in my personal experience, AI search summaries has cited sources that say the exact opposite of what the AI claims, so I donât trust it at all. Always always double check sources

"He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good."
"He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers."
"He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries."
"He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation"
"He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers . . . whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions."
Who did you think I was talking about here? Who was the first person that came to mind on reading that? I was revisiting the actual Declaration of Independence for America's birthday...a document some 248 years old, and several of the crimes we charged King George with sound suspiciously familiar to a current former president, just changing a word here and there to match modern times.
This came to mind today when I was watching the musical 1776. Granted, it is historical fiction. However, as I was watching, the dissenters for American Independence were sounding familiar, and it finally occurred to me that people who were against American Independence were saying the same things then that the modern Republican party is now. And if your modern, 2024 political party sounds like the slightly fictionalized version of people who were against American Independence...
I will leave you with the song that Richard Nixon wanted cut from the musical because he thought it would give Republicans a bad name. And I will leave you with one last quote from the Declaration:
"A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."
Seeing people I know and like using AI is making me understand the protagonists of those old time sci fi dystopia's.
"Oh I don't normally use AI, I just wanted it to plan my trip"
You lived on this planet for decades, you know what you like, there are hundreds of websites where you can type into any search engine " things to do in [area]" and have at least a hundred different options.
"Oh I only use it so I can figure out what to make during the week with what I have"
The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.
"I had a writing idea, so I typed a few sentences into Chat GPT and I was able to write 20 pages with it."
