Misadventures in time magic while crafting planetary seals! My life is ridiculous.
It was around 2017, the time I started getting really sick, that this idea began stewing in my brain. This idea that I was running out of time or didn’t have enough time. Or worse yet, that I had to hunker down, and pick just one art project (and only one) to focus on in order to be “successful”. This whole year has been me versus this mind virus versus chronic illness. Ironic for someone who works with time magic. Long story short? I’ve succeeded in getting nothing done by believing my time was limited. And only sunk myself deeper into depression.
Time isn’t linear despite our standard perceptions of it. Time is an infinite pool. A minute can stretch on like days sometimes. A half an hour can go by in the blink of an eye. And after some really powerful epiphanies this month, I decided that it was time to banish this toxic idea. I want to greet 2019 prepared for a new way of going about things. Inspired by a post wandering around on Tumblr, I started today’s magical activities off with some time magic; A time servitor based on the image of a hummingbird, to be exact.
[For those of you who are new to the term “servitor”, a servitor is a created spirit made out of your intent, to carry out a command that you give it. They’re like little butlers only way cooler.]
I read on that wandering post that the Mayans believed hummingbirds had the power to stop, slow down, and speed up the flow of time. That if you ever needed extra time to do anything, ask a hummingbird for help. Since I am laboring under the idea that I don’t have enough time, I fashioned myself a hummingbird servitor made out of the intentional statement: “I will always have enough time”. I lit a candle and burned some sweet floral incense to give the servitor (because hummingbirds like flowers) energy and asked it to help me get everything done that I needed to today. Because today I had plans to kick myself back into gear!
Keep this in mind as I ramble on.
Mercury entered Saggitarius at 4:25 p.m. And today (well yesterday) was Wednesday, Mercury’s sacred day. I decided on making a Third Pentacle of Mercury talisman to help inspire me to write and break my writer’s block and inner critic. Traditionally, you want to craft a planetary seal during it’s corresponding hour on it’s corresponding day. Well, because of unforeseen circumstances, I was running late. And stressing about “not enough time”. I messed up my first attempt at drawing the seal on some birch paper and almost gave up on the endeavor when my room mate reminds me that my time table was forty minutes early instead of forty minutes late.
And somehow, I went from not having enough time to create the Third Pentacle of Mercury to having forty minutes to relax, eat something, and prepare myself!
That hummingbird servitor took me running late and somehow created an extra forty minutes out of thin air for me! I was able to leisurely create the Pentacle and now it’s sitting near a statue of Thoth (Egyptian Mercury) to charge for a week until next Wednesday. I’ll be sharing that Hummingbird servitor and it’s sigil soon for you all to use, people who are reading this.
[For those of you who don’t know what a sigil is, a sigil is a magic symbol imbued with intent and power. It’s like a whole spell inside a doodle]
I also spent some time making rice, honey, and macha green tea offerings to two Inari fox spirits that I have befriended since August. Again, I thought I wouldn’t have time inbetween chores, cooking dinner, and other things to serve them on their appropriate hour (the planetary hour of Venus since they’re linked to Inari, god of rice, and fertility) but I had plenty of time to spare!
Hell, I even had so much time that I got in a few readings and started researching for my full moon post because-
Yup. I’m going back to writing about astrology again!! That and a lot more.
Anyways, I should probably go to sleep. I got a long day tomorrow researching and prepping for New Years. New Years is my biggest most special and important holiday to my practice and I wanna make sure everything is perfect for when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st!
