there seems to be a bit of a negative bias against her that I cannot tolerate. While not my favourite dragon, I believe she is the most important dragon during The Dance—let me elaborate.

While we all love Dreamfyre for being mother, Syrax has a similar role. Especially during The Dance she is the most fertile dragon. We like to think of the dragons as an expression of power and rank their importance by their strength, when in reality that is not the point at all. Dragons are much more than weapons. Dragons are magic, and dragons are the fire the world needs to survive the long night.

The existence of dragonkind is crucial to the people living in the whole world-the Dance is just some power struggle of two people ruining it for everybody. Syrax' importance lies in keeping dragonkind alive in a world that needs dragons, not their riders. The tragedy of the Dance isn't a family tearing each other apart, it is the dragons dying.

Which makes the Dance all the more tragic. It is the small-folk who need the dragons to survive, yet the suffering they bring, forced by their riders, moves them to rise up, leading to the Storming of the Dragonpit. I think it is very intentional that both Syrax and Dreamfyre are slain during the Storming of the Dragonpit.

Valaena Targaryen (oc)

Valaena was born in the year 65 AC being the ninth of the king's children, on a day that had been quiet in Kings Landing, her mother Queen Alysanne had given birth to her right at a beautiful sunset and she was lucky to have a quick and easy delivery.

The girl grew up just as spoiled as her brothers and sisters, above all she always loved being with her father King Jaehaerys, she was his little shadow from one side to the other and the king had no heart to deny his daughter's company.

She always loved her brother Vaegon but he never agreed to marry her even though she was his intense companion since they were children.

The Princess was married to Lord Hobert Hightower and Valaena and Vaegon were sent to Oldtown, she as a bride and he as an archmaester in training.
