Gaemon was born in King's Landing in 172 AC. He was one of the many bastard children of King Aegon IV and his mistress, Lady Roan of Tyrosh, a beautiful woman with pink hair, a charismatic personality, and a nature that made her nearly impossible to hate. She adapted remarkably well to Westeros and even developed a friendship with Queen Naerys herself, despite all the trouble and gossip that her presence and that of her son caused at court.

The princess was fascinated by horses, since she had never seen dragons alive, so she dedicated herself to raising and caring for them.
