Knitting Autumn

Some people were requesting the pattern for the Baby Yoda I knitted a few weeks ago, so here is my feeble attempt at recording it :P I made another one for the sake of visual aid.  I ran out of the lighter green (which I think looks better), so for this one I used some dark green I had on hand. Here are the pieces:

For the head, instead of casting off, thread the yarn through the loops, pull tight and sew in place. Then sew down the side, turn inside out to hide the seam, and fill with stuffing of your choice:

For the body, fold in half, sew down the long side and one short side. Turn inside out to hide your seam and fill with stuffing. Then sew the open end of the head and the open end of the body together. Feel free to do some stitching through the neck to make the connection smaller:

For the coat, fold in half, sew down the long side, then turn inside out to hide the seam. Fold down the top ten rows to create the collar and then place around the body:

For the feet, fold in half, sew down the sides, and turn inside out to hide the seams. Then sew to the bottom of the body. Sew in place or add a few stitches to draw the feet towards each other. This will help the baby Yoda stand on its own later:

For the arms, sew the edges together with the related yarn color (things won’t match up perfectly, but that’s ok). Sew up all green sides and one brown side, leaving the brown end open. Then turn inside out to hide the seams and fold back the brown to make the sleeve over the arm:

Fold the collar back up and count down 20 rows to find the place to attach the arms. You can modify this however you like, this is how I did it :P I also made a point to only sew the arms to the coat, not the body. That way you can kind of shift things around a bit after the fact. Also, as with the feet, I used a few stitches to draw the arms more towards each other so they are reaching more forward and not out to the side:

For the Ears, Fold down a few rows along the edge to create the “ear” shape. Then sew to head as you like. Then I just used some black yarn to sew some eyes, but you can use buttons or whatever you like:

In all, I think it turned out well. I will say that for the first one, I used some old spare yarn for the filling and that was more firm and shape-able than the polyfill. The ears are a bit floppy, so perhaps you could add a bit of wire to give them more shape.
