This part... ugh. I was so in the moment of this cutscene, at the edge of my seat, absolutely taken in by the story in a rare time in s.tormblood-
This man gets shot. Three times. Spitting up blood.
And Hein. Hein decides it's the perfect time to monologue instead of honoring his sacrifice and getting the fuck out of there.
It completely broke the moment, completely broke the cutscene, completely broke my immersion in the story - and honestly ruined Hein ( and honestly prob Gosetsu too ) for me and assassinated Gosetsue's sacrifice by making it drag on. and by the time the scene was over his 'death' was ruined for me, I didn't care at that point - I was too busy screaming 'WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING, RUN - DUMBASSES'. which is not the reaction you want a viewer to have. sure i'm only one, but it effected how i feel about stormblood entirely.
THE MAN IS STRUGGLING, YOU'RE MAKING HIM SUFFER, FUCKING. G O.
it's just bad writing, it far overstayed it's welcome trying to be big instead of letting the moment, the sacrifice, the 'death' breath and be. that's what makes haurchefant's death hit. it didn't overstay. he got his last few words in and then he was gone. that's what made aerith's OG death hit - she didn't even get last words. neither did zack in the OG either ( which imo hit far harder than crisis core ). it felt like hollywood, not a painful reality that is war
also gosetsu's fake out was the first of many i'd be disappointed in. yes it is impactful he was the one taking care of yotsuyu and i did enjoy that, but the fake out was just - imo, bad. he was shot three times, spitting out blood, and he's somehow... fine? xiv would only get worse with fake outs in expansions to come. by y'shtola's second one i was completely apathetic, suspecting she'd be back.
honestly nothing in d.awntrail made me headbang into the wall as hard as this specific moment.
