the funny thing about the spell in nwh is that it doesn't just make everyone forget peter parker. it essentially rewrites the timeline to exclude peter parker as if he were never there before.

ned grew up believing he had no friends until he met mj.

he remembers sleeping in a hotel room alone both during national acadec trips and in europe. he sat by himself every lunch, probably since like, early middle school at least, and had no bus partner every day on the way to school. however, he would remember being somewhat happy, even before he met mj.

thus, he's probably used to the fact that he once enjoyed being alone, even young. now when mj's busy, he's surprised that he dislikes being alone and would prefer to have some sort of reliance on someone. someone to keep him company and satisfy the feeling of a deep friendship. but of course, he passes it off as self discovery and not because he can't remember the closest and longest friend he's ever had.
