We once found a note asking us to come to the counter because a suspicious letter had arrived. I remember one day when I went there, they explained that it was forbidden to send money through the mail. So we informed our correspondents that they needed to wrap the money in carbon paper when they bought our demos. We added the note "Well hidden!" Then our correspondents started sending coins. This time, we were told at the post office that it was forbidden. To which we replied: "No, no, it's not money." And when they opened the envelope, we heard the sound of coins falling out. So, we added the note "PS: Do not send coins" to our mailing lists and newsletters. Ha ha!

Dead: Sure, but not many. Things have been very slow since āDEATHCRUSHā. The ones we havenāt dropped are āFreezing moonā,āFuneral fogā, āBuried by time and dustā and āPagan fearsā. Right now I have some ideas for new lyrics, which I think will be called āBurn my coffinā.
Tomas: Me and many, many more are waiting for your new LP, do you have any plans when it will be out? Dead: I wish I could answer thisā¦ Itās been delayed so many times now, because we would realize, more than once, that we must redo some of the songs, and several times we realized that almost completely finished songs canāt be used at all. We prefer to have fewer, but high quality tracks, than 100 of crappy songs that we, as well as everyone else, would get brutally bored to death of after a very short time. Especially because āDeathcrushā came out so long ago, we would disappoint ourselves and others if we had done that. I think many bands seem to be in such a hurry to record something, so they end up having one or two good tracks. The background of this black metal singer, who describes his ideas as "Satanist, nationalist, racist, racialist (ā¦) and even Nazi," raised fears of terrorist intentions.
Kristian Vikernes was born on February 11, 1973, near Bergen, in western Norway. In the late 1980s, he changed his first name to Varg (wolf in Norwegian) and took up the guitar. "I had nothing else to do, so I devoted most of my time to working on music," he told the website Radio Metal in 2012. With two friends, they founded a black metal band, Kalashnikov, "because it's the name of my favorite assault weapon," as he himself explained online. The band quickly became Uruk HaĆÆ, named after the author of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, J.R.R. Tolkien, for a race of Orcs. In 1991, Vikernes founded Burzum, which also takes its name from Tolkien's works. A special feature of this black metal band is that it is a one-man band: Vikernes is the only member of this formation.

Well, I was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment for one first degree murder and for the burning of one church in 1992. I admitted to the full charge in court since the evidence against me was over-whelming to say the least. I killed a gay man in Lillehammer, stabbing him to death 37 times with a rather small knife, resulting in that he died from loss of blood. Therefore none of the stabs were lethal in itself. I remember parts from it, or rather, I remember all of it, but some things are a little blurred and unfocused. My adrenalin was working full time and the rage was something I have never felt before, nor later. I have said in earlier interviews that the act in itself was like standing outside myself, looking at one guy stabbing another. I think this is normal since the brain reacts so negatively against it so in order to distance itself from it, it makes the illusion that someone else is actually doing it.

Last March, Mayhem had to cancel their participation in The Decibel Magazine Tour due to the coronavirus pandemic. Shortly before the tour was canceled, it was announced that Hellhammer would not take part in the concerts due to a severe shoulder infection, caused by osteoarthritis that had been affecting him for some time.
