"Who's there?" a voice called out from the other side of the window where they sat. Startled by the voice, their laughter stopped abruptly and they looked to each other with wide, frightened eyes. Jenna couldn't tell whether it was a man or woman who had called out, but expected someone to burst out the front door at any moment. They waited. Jenna, mentally locating the Glock she had put in the side pocket of the backpack she carried, didn't know if she could grab it quickly enough to protect them if someone came out.

Two hours into her drive on SR-22 West, Jenna realized what a terrible mistake it had been to decide to leave at night. For the past hour, she had been driving through an almost comically impenetrable fog. She was close to Somerville and the speed limit was 45 miles per hour, but she couldn't come close to it. She was really hovering at about twenty, but had been moving much slower than that at times. Thankfully so, since she had also had to stop dead in the road because of a random car either sitting dead center of her lane or not pulled nearly off the road enough. Still, Jenna was nearly two hours into her trip and wished she had just stayed at her house and started after daylight. What a dumb-ass, stubborn choice she had made! If nothing else, Jenna Owens was one to stick to her guns!

Eventually, the hostages escaped and the man was apprehended. His name? Kenneth Lamar Noid.

That was no coincidence. Kenneth Noid had been suffering from a dark carnival of brain problems that led him to believe that the bombardment of TV commercials inviting pizza fans to “avoid the Noid” were making fun of him, personally. The advertising campaign drove his psychosis to the point that he believed the Domino’s Pizza Illuminati were breaking into his apartment while he was away to monitor him.

Shortly after Donald Trump was sworn into office as the 45th President of the United States, all foreign ambassadors were fired and with no concrete replacement ambassadors lined up. Mr Trump had demanded that every ambassador in countries all over the world, who had been appointed by former President Barack Obama, were told to leave their offices by midday on 20 January and with no grace period.

Here is probably the most interesting part of the article.

It is common policy, however, that politically appointed ambassadors resign at the start of a new administration. It is less common to have no replacements in line.

As many as 80 ambassadors for countries, agencies and issues - such as the ambassador for global women’s issues - have been discarded at once.

The move now threatens leaving many countries without Senate-confirmed envoys for months and cutting off a direct line to the President, and some in countries which have sensitive relations to the US.

apparently what happened (if i’m not mistaken) is that these ambassadors traditionally offer up their resignation at the start of a new presidency but almost always keep their position, like the resignation is just a symbolic gesture? but trump’s team didn’t realize that and they actually accepted people’s resignations but they can’t admit that the trump admin is actually that fucking stupid so they’re just….going with it

Also, while ambassadors are typically replaced, they usually don’t have to pack their bags and be gone by the inauguration. They stick around while replacements are found, their kids finish the school year, whatever. It’s almost like Trump is more into the power trip of firing people than in making sure the government is able to function.
