Silly Little High Horse
If you thought to manipulate me, you don't know me. And your silly little high horse, it wonât throw me. I donât owe you my forgiveness, nor my blessing Your cheap attempts to steel them will only keep me second guessing. You canât convince me of how things were, I was there too And if you bend the truth I hope it continues to haunt you If youâre sure you did the right thing then just own it You wonât change my mind, youâve already blown it I prefer to dissolve my own rage and just keep going Someone like you to me isnât worth the knowing If you want to find redemption, have it in you To feel the pain yourself and let it kill you My only aim now is to forget That god damn day that we first met.
- K.M.Bartello, Silly Little High Horse
But you, you are dancing on my cut line - letting yourself fall, pulling back up. Laughing out loud, then begging for help.

Rhyme & Reason
Did you know how I would feel
That I would toss & turn & reel
When you took your own sweet time
To find words that still donât rhyme?
Did you know what it would do
That it would tear my world in two
When you snuck into itâs core
And left me with nowhere to go?
Rhyme & reason, changing season
Dust to dust, all is lost
All is lost
Wouldnât you say it was betrayal
When you walked away from me & bailed
On the emotions that were there
Waiting it out until neither of us cared?
Wouldnât you say that it makes sense
That time is an eraser that makes amends
Turns a blind eye to what was there
For the sake of being less aware
Rhyme & reason, changing season
Dust to dust, all is lost
All is lost
So do you go right where nothing is left?
Or do you go left where nothing is right?
Rhyme & reason, all the treason
All innocence is lost
Rhyme & reason, changing season
And everything has gone away
 Rhyme & reason, changing season
Dust to dust, all is lost
All is lost

Cause if there is no "no" you have to break your own heart. And if there's no "go" you have to lead your own way. And if you can't let it show then nothing's simply clear. And everything is wrong.

Everybodyâs Favorite Penpal
Hello my friend How have you been? How are the kids? How's the job? How is the mistress? I am fine, my love, I am fine. New man, new job, new life And yes, I'm still making sure Theyâre just the short kind of amour Yes, it's complicated Yes, it's difficult Yes, it's not like you and I But it's available if not quite right  All these years You're my best friend My partner in crime, my heart and soul But definitely not mine  And all these years I am your conscience Your backbone, your comfort zone But not quite yours And you said I was everybody's favorite penpal these days That maybe something wasn't right. And I smiled at him and said, âI think you might be mine.â. And you said If it's got to be someone taken, Why can't it just be me? But we both know the reason And still we don't set each other free. And yes, they are complicated Yes, they are difficult Yes, of course, they aren't you But they don't stay And they can't wreck me too All these years You're my best friend My partner in crime, my heart and soul But somehow not mine And all these years I am your conscience Your backbone, your comfort zone But still definitely not yours Â
You were everything without trying You were the sun, the moon, my world and the rough sea And you're my rock, you never move But life went on without us and it never really improved  And all these years You're my best friend My partner in crime, my heart and soul But not mine And all these years I am your conscience Your backbone, your comfort zone But never ever again yours

The error was to trust a man who believed in the high road, but was afraid of heights.

Winterbound
âIt is not autumn yetâ, you said, as we walked into a storm,
But I secretly held you close enough for me to keep you warm
I wasnât quite prepared for it, when you told me to let go.
And I was a little scared for us, but I couldnât let you know.
âItâs been cold since September first.â I said.
You claimed to not remember.
And you made the next twenty days your right.
You always were your best defender.
âFind the warmth within yourselfâ, you urged, âand just let the cold go.â
âBut the cold is who I amâ, I said, âI am an autumn girl, you know.â
âItâs the time to be light, you see. This is not your season.â
I was afraid to let you go, so I nodded and felt treason.
âIt isnât autumn yetâ, you insisted. âNot till September twenty first.â
I shivered alone in my sweater and looked up as the next cloud burst.
Golden and warm, autumn was in a chevy,
But in need of freedom, to you, it would always have been too heavy.
So when the day came to mark that end of summer
There was nothing left to say between me and itâs drummer.
âGoodbye.â you said and headed for the light and I was bound for winter.
I hid the pain, but it remained a heavy way to splinter.
âGoodbye,â you said, âYou gloomy girl.â, as you began the straying,
Now youâre headed for eternal spring and I, I will be staying.
But golden and never afraid of the dark, this still is my season.
Even if you, my love, could never see my reason.
