Paloma knew it was childish -- but in a way, it was an attempt to get his attention. Her volatile nature, the jealousy, it all began to bubble up to the surface. She can't fully say she didn't mean it. Sometimes she thinks she would kill him if she could. Maybe then she could untangle herself from him.
But deep down she knows she'd never really do it. Even tonight, she would have never sunk the knife in if she actually thought it would kill him.
Lestat made her cold, dead heart light up. In spite of herself, she did love him. He was fascinating and infuriating in equal measures. Matched her in wit and brutality. He had a rare ability to charm her, easily able to coax her out of her fits of rage and madness.
And she certainly had his attention NOW. She could see it on his face, hear it in his voice -- terrible, dangerous. And hers. She could even feel it in the way he pulls her closer, she smiles wickedly as he does so. An expression that doesn't fade even as he shoves her away.
"I don't care if you do hurt me. Just don't fucking ignore me." She steps closer, bats her eyes as she looks up at him. "I just want you to keep looking at me," Paloma says, her voice softer this time. A tone simply dripping with honey.
lestat has half a mind to do the opposite, wrench his icy gaze away from her pretty face. leave her standing alone holding the knife, run off to rendezvous with some secret lover. one of many. come home smelling of french perfume and rub the alcoholic stench into her wounded ego.
"ignore you?" he asks, a chuckle rumbling from deep in his chest. "how could i ignore a little attention whore that's got her sights set on dragging me down to rock bottom with her?" his wounds, nothing serious and nothing deep, have healed completely. but he can still feel the phantom pain of her blade slicing across his chest. like a heartache. something he's all too familiar with. especially since paloma blew into his life like a category five hurricane.
he wants to hurt her back. poke at those deep seated insecurities he knows she has. "what would you do if i walked out that door right now?" he asks, leaning in close to her ear, not giving her the pleasure of eye contact. "what if i never looked at you again? or better yet, what if i dug my fingernails into those brown eyes of yours and took them with me as i left?" he brushes his long, glass-like fingernails across the side of her face. he's teasing her. hurt me, she says. another laugh.
"what if i took that blade and let the blood out from your throat? you'd like that, wouldn't you?"
"don't tempt me, ma chère," lestat says, velvet tongue dripping with venom. the wounds she's left on him, physical and emotional, still stinging. he could rip her head off. if he wanted, he could wring that beautiful visage off its shoulders. but damn him, he doesn't want to. part of him loves her, equal to the part of him that hates her. she's too fun to be around, just as beautifully damaged and fucked up as he is. just as fierce. he loves the way she hurts him and loves him. he loves the way she kills.
lestat wraps an arm around paloma's waist, pulling her in close, digging his strong fingers into the soft flesh at the side of her hip. his fangs are nipping at his bottom lip, sharp little pearls ready to latch onto her neck. he holds back, gently brushing his lips to the side of her neck. "you're lucky i heal quickly, otherwise i would take you up on your little offer," he lies, affect flippant and uncaring as he pushes her away.

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE SEASON TWO SENTENCE STARTERS
β Can you imagine never dreaming? Would you look forward to sleep? Or would it terrify you when the day broke? β
β Do you miss me? I miss you. Despite our recent unpleasantness - still missing each other. β
β You ruin it with remorse. It was a perfect betrayal. β
β I'm gonna bloody kill you. I'm merely waiting until you're happy. β
β What's worse than a nightmare? If your soul's projecting out its fears, at least it's up and running. But the absence of anything? The void. The nothing. β
β I want this. To remember. β
β What, after all, can the damned really say to the damned? β
β I don't know what else is blurred or misremembered. β
β He wants you in pieces for the privilege of putting them back together as he sees fit. β
β As long as you walk the Earth, I'll never taste the fire, you understand me? β
β If there was no me, and there was no him...who would you be? β
β I don't know what I need. Maybe a new brain in my head. β
β Please, don't pretend to be something you're not, yeah? β
β Never thought about choosing to pretend. Life hasn't been kind enough to allow me that. β
β Photos are the record of time passing. β
β Suppose we were to let you go. Suppose the reaper had a heart that could resist your beauty.Β β
β Death awaits everyone. Everywhere. Why not here? β
β Do you know what it means to be loved by death? β
β Should have seen that coming. Did not see that one coming. β
β You shared a boyfriend! This is great! β
β Best lies got some truth to 'em. β
β What else is there to be scared of? Other than your own lust? β
β Do not waste your life seeking revenge on the person or persons who did this. Do not give them the satisfaction of the hunt. Let treachery eat away at them from within. β
β All my love belongs to you. You are its keeper. β
β Love of my life, or is it more "rebound of my life" with you two? β
β You carry yourself well. β
β But what is that morality other than rules agreed upon? β
β They were all in love with him. He had that effect on everyone. β
β You havenβt told him what you are, have you? β
β I could speak until the end of the world, and I could never tell you what you have destroyed here. β
β Never say I love you to a raging narcissist. β
β You might be having a good time now, but there's danger if they find out we lied. β
β Show me where you go at night. β
β Then what room is there left for me, if you have not found yourself? β
β Aren't there gradations to evil? Is evil a great perilous gulf one falls into with the first sin? β
β I killed him and he fucking had it coming. β
β Even now, I'm still the only one you trust. β
β Go on, kill me again! Show me the only way you know how to love. β
β I've seen it all before. I've seen too much. β
β You don't understand the danger I risk every night for you. How that danger compounds with every slight. β
β I was wondering if you wanted to take one of our walks. β
β When you're the oldest suit in town, it is a comfort to be among your contemporaries. β
β I don't enjoy using my powers like that. β
β I served him with all my heart. Basked in his mercy, his worshipful mercy. β
β Who am I? I am my history I have endured? I am the job I do not want? I do not know anymore. β
β One dark thing after another. Maybe I seek it out. Maybe I chase after it. β
β Even in between the dark things...there's something broken in me. A collision in me, like I wanna go bang. β
β Well, go bang. Go flag it out or go cold. I mean, that's fine, then you'll be fine again. And then bang. And then okay, and then bang, and...You just get used to it, like weather. β
β Let us agree, going forward, you will do more than the bare minimum. And the friend you made, you will not see again. β
β Well... what is vampire life but poor decisions, stacked next to better ones. β
β Oh, I forgot! Love makes you stupid. Makes you fickle and weak and blind. β
β Picked another one over me! β
β The wilderness that is our daughter. β
β I want you more than anything in the world. β
β How often has [name] spared a life? β
β Fuck! Are those fangs? β
β You paid a biblical price for your first love. β
β Will you, uh, do the fang thing again? β
β You were given the gift and I've been hearing you bitch the night away about it. β
β You don't understand the meaning of your own story! β
β Not sure that killing me was a totally warranted response to my idiocy. β
β I deserved to have my ass kicked for the sheer number of times I said, "And then what?" β
β Mark it on the calendar, align it with Ursa Major. [name]'s tri-annual fuck off and find me - with apologies to follow. β
β Oh, this is boring! You're boring! You are so boring! β
β The ten hours I spent with that boy were more exciting, more fascinating, than decades with you! β
β Oh, there it is! The half-blank, half-apocalyptic look! But what does it mean tonight, huh? β
β I don't... I don't remember. I don't remember any of this. β
β Pieces of my life, gone. I knew who I was without those pieces. β
β I'm told you've lived a fascinating life. β
β I could be on my knees in a second. β
β Is that what makes you fascinating? β
β If you want the insanity back, if you wanted escape from this prison of empathy I've locked you away in, all you had to do was ask. β
β I am the quiet you've been longing for. β
β After what you've put me through here, I deserve this. β
β I preserve your happiness even when you don't or can't. β
β What does it mean to die...when you can live until the end of the world? And what is the end of the world... except a phrase? β
β Fuck these vampires. β
β Clothes off, face down in the coffin. You can read 'em to me while I fuck you. β
β What's it like to drink blood? Is it like drinking life itself? β
β I'd like a couple of months when you don't tear things down or fuck things up. β
β I've been a third all my life. β
β I feel like I get to pick one thing for myself, and it's her. β
β You think you're happy with me now? Can you imagine me without the burden of her? β
β Is that what you found when you went looking for yourself? Shortcut to the end of things? β
β You want to be one of us? β
β If you make me a monster, youβll only be turning me into what I already am. β
β You gotta give up something to get something. β
β I have never made a vampire. β
β Ooh! What's up your arse tonight? Is your companion stuck up there, chewing on your inner bits like a hamster? β
β Those we make ourselves will always despise us for it. β
β Don't worry about the blood. It's the blood that made you. β
β The lamb smiling up at the wolf with unsettling passivity. β
β You'll find your way back to each other. β
β They gave me a choice. I chose. β
β This is too important a moment in our story for these games. β
β Why did I owe you my shame? Why did I owe you my one act of cowardice? β
β Flowers growing from the dead. Cold things becoming warm. β
β Why don't you want him to know how much you love him?Β β
β It's a story of love. Not butchery. β
β How do you know that it was not your own voice? Speaking your own unspeakable desires. Screaming them in the darkness... in the hopes that I would come to you. β
β But I wonder...where lies their disgust now? β
β This is loneliness. You want to curl up and die, don't you? β
β I'll stay. I'll never leave you ever again. I promise. β
β And she will be miserable! And you will love her! And it will spiral beyond your reach! β
β She asked if I was an angel! Me! β
β You will regret this for the rest of your life. β
β I see the best of my vampiric self in her. β
β Remember that we are monsters. And to us monsters, what's a bite between paramours? β
β A wolf congratulated for not killing her pups. β
β I did it to hurt him. And it did hurt him. And afterwards, he was a broken thing. I know, I saw, because I am the one who broke him! β
β I couldn't persuade him to return my affections. I couldn't force him to love me and so...I broke him. β
β What is worse than that? Crushing what you cannot own? β
β I will always be sorry for what I did to you. I was not worthy of the forgiveness you would give me. β
β Can I cry and say that I'm sorry too? β
β Don't know why I bother. You didn't come here for me. β
β My vampire heart quiver-eth. β
β The martyr skips her way to hell. β
β If there is an afterlife, I'm going to come back and fucking kill all of you. And if there isn't an afterlife, I'll still gonna find a way. β
β What was left to endure for? [name] is dead. β
β Does anyone ever ask Lazarus if he wanted to be woken? β
β I was dead. But my rage... My rage had risen. β
β If I could explain to you the events, I think you would understand why it was I acted as I did. β
β I know you will never forgive me. I am not seeking forgiveness. β
β My prevailing thought was...if I am not with him, I am nothing. β
β The plan? I was going to die, and I was going to take as many of them with me as I could. β
β When did you start lying to me? β
β Does it take a lot out of you? Destroying everything in your wake? β
β I came here to have a think on my origins. Why I do what I do. β
β I've come to kill you. β
β He and I are going to spend the rest of our lives together. And wherever your miserable life takes you, whoever you find to endure time with, whatever pale proxy of me, I'll be with him. β
β And that's the end of it. There's nothing else. β
β He loved you. I can say that now. He loved you a great deal. β
β It's in your nature. Couldn't get out the door without lobbing one more bomb. β
β You have no idea of [name]'s strength! β
β You were supposed to die with [name]. β
β I'm companion enough for myself now. β
β I wanted you to suffer. Because I was suffering. β
β Shall we list all the ways we have wronged each other and why it'll never be right between monstrousβ¦ β
β I came to thank you. For the gift you offered me. The gift I denied. For the nights in front of me, where I might learn to live honestly. Thank you. β
β I'm guessing you haven't heard from my maker? β
