Alien Hand Syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes one’s hand to move in uncontrollable and often erratic ways. People with this disorder aren’t aware of it (unless they see it) or have any control over the action. In most cases, the hand is usually grabbing or reaching for things on its own, but in other cases, Alien Hand Syndrome is known to be abusive either to themselves or to others, which can range from pinching, to jabbing, to choking. Some report that they would sometimes wake up with their throat in a choke hold, or that the hand would stub out the cigarette just as they’d lit it, or it would unbutton their shirt as they were trying to button it. Other sufferers of this condition report that the abuse is sometimes sexual, when the hand suddenly decides to grope a person nearby. In these cases, there is not much sufferers can do but to restrain their alien hand with their other hand, which can be hard to do.

The autopsy is designed to determine the cause of death, the mechanism of death, and the manner of death. In some cases, the cause of death cannot be determined, due to various reasons, including decomposition.

 Cause of Death – is usually defined as the injury or disease that caused the death of an individual. Stab wounds, gunshot wounds or blunt force trauma are all causes of violent death.

Mechanism of Death – is defined as what directly caused the death to occur. An example is hemorrhage. A gunshot wound might not be fatal in and of itself, but if the victim bleeds to death, loss of blood becomes the mechanism of death.

Luminol is a chemical that can be used to show trace amounts of blood by creating a light producing chemical reaction when mixed with hemoglobin.

Luminol powder is mixed into a liquid containing hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals. This mixture will then be sprayed over the area that is being examined.

The reaction of the Luminol spray mixing with the iron in blood will then produce a blue glow that can be seen in a dark room.

Other substances that can accidentally have the same reaction with Luminol are: bleach, urine, faeces & horseradish.
