hey mtv cribs welcome to my desk, it is remarkable that we actually manage to see some of the actual surface.
A level exams are officially started 2 down 9 to go kidsš. Officially on study leave so this week needs to grant me a miracle or hopefully just some discipline to work.
š¼ also if you all arenāt listening to Picture This. Go. Now. you will not be sorry. take my hand and body and mind are top ones for me right now, as well as 95, basically all of them.
Maybe click for better quality x
The start of my cheat sheet for animal and plant physiology. Itās finished now and the exams over but I neglected to take a picture of it before it got crumpled in my backpack post exam. Alas.Ā
That exam felt like it went very well. Much better than my previous two. I definitely have an easier (and more enjoyable) time with biology rather than physics or math. Twas a nice reminder that Iām definitely on the right career path.Ā

26.10.2016 : today is all about Kierkegaard and coffee.Ā
Iāve been drinking a lot more tea lately and honestly it feels very Aesthetic. Iāve got a physics test tomorrow that Iām feeling just ok about. Tutorial is cancelled so Iāve got all day tomorrow to study and that should help. Just did the weekās bonus test and for some reason it told me immediately if I got things right or wrong, which was probably a glitch but Iām not complaining.Ā
Shown in the picture is my physics workbook and my chem notes that Iām very behind on. Bio has turned into my go to course to work on since I understand it the most, which is definitely not how you should use your time but sometimes itās either bio or not studying. Honestly just pray for my grades.Ā
Very proud of my cell bio cheat sheet, despite the fact that I didnāt use it that often during the midterm. Making it definitely helped me study. Feel reasonably ok about how that midterm went. It feels like a weight is off my chest now that itās done.Ā Ā
My method of annotating books is pretty simple. I donāt color code or use any sort of system to organize my notes on a book. Iām pretty lazy and having to color code and keep track of what the different colors stand for sounds exhausting. But if you are one of those people who has a highly organized system of annotating, I applaud you. I wish I could be you (not sarcasm I swear). However, Iāve found that for me, keeping it simple while I annotate is the best. If youāre looking for a simple, no frills way to annotate a book, this is the post for you.
The Materials
highlighter
pencil
post-its
page flags (sometimes)
The Method
Basically as Iām reading I highlight anything that stands out to me. Examples of things I tend to highlight are parts of the story I donāt understand, parts I think are worded beautifully, or anything that raises questions in my mind. I also take note of literary devices (allusions, similes, etc.) and common themes that I see running through the book. If I find a word or phrase I donāt know, Iāll look it up and write the definition in my book so that I can refer to it later.
After highlighting something, I write down in my book, why I highlighted it. This is super important, because not only does it force me to think more about the text, when I re-read the book I have context for why I thought a particular thing was important enough to highlight. This is where the post-its come in. If I donāt have enough space to write in the margins, Iāll write my comment on a post-it, and stick it on the appropriate page. Oftentimes Iāll do both, writing in the margins when I have a smaller comment, and using the post-its for when I need more room.
If Iām reading a really long book, Iāll write down summaries of the different chapters or sections on my post-it notes so that I can keep track of whatās happening. If Iām trying to keep track of different themes, Iāll usually put the page numbers for where I found those themes expressed in a note at the beginning of the book. If I find myself asking questions about elements of the plot, the word choice, anything, Iāll write those down, either on a post-it or in the margins. Even if I canāt answer the questions right away, I can always come back to them after Iāve finished reading.
I mainly use page flags for when Iām writing essays. Iāll use them to bookmark pages with quotes or scenes that Iām planning on referencing so that when Iām writing I can easily refer back to them. Iāll also use page flags when Iām reading library book, in place of highlighters (since you canāt highlight library books obviously).
General Tips
Donāt be scared of marking up your book. I personally love color, so I love it when my books are an explosion of pink and yellow and orange highlighter. (Like I said before, I donāt color code, but I like to switch up the color highlighter I use just for fun).Ā
Itās ok to highlight something that you think is important even if you donāt know why. Just put a question mark by it. I do that all the time.
If you find yourself liking or disliking something an author is saying, write that down, and then write down why. These are ideas you can use in English papers.
Literally anything you think of while reading a book might be something you want to write down; donāt be afraid of your own ideas and connections.
I mentioned earlier that I take note of any literary devices that I see. If you have trouble remembering these @emmastudies has an amazing printable that lists the main literary techniques.
Have fun with it! Annotating is designed to enhance your reading experience, not make it a greater burden.
This post ended up being a little longer than I expected, but I hope it helped you in some way. If you have any questions feel free to send me an ask (or comment) and Iād be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. Happy reading!

Life is good but extremely busy! Really needed caffeine today but spilled said coffee while walking to class so thatās a big mood
Iām taking a one unit seminar class for fun this quarter where every week we meet in a different location on campus and tour that building and talk about the history/architecture of it in celebration of UCLAās centennial year and itās such a wholesome class omg :ā) My professor keeps asking me to tell the stories we tell during our orientation tours (which are mostly comprised of myths and lies lol) but I do love touring so this class makes me so nostalgic about summer

So itās been a minute since Iāve last posted (and by a minute I mean a couple of months, whoops). Finally back in the groove of university. So far I think I mightāve been focusing too much on chem. Pictures are of last week and my lab procedure (part 1/3 went reasonably ok).Ā
Just one exam left! The notes here are from by human biology final from a week ago. I havenāt been very productive these past couples days, but Iām telling myself itās okay since my exam isnāt until Tuesday (I probably should have been more productive whoops).Ā
This past week I did go in for a job interview at a vet clinic, but alas I donāt think I got the job. Womp womp. The world keeps spinning and Iāll find something eventually.Ā
So my human biology midterm is Monday and Iāve been severely putting off studying. Whoops. I did apply for some vet offices today, hopefully for a summer job. Most vet schools want a whole lot of experience working with animals, and I have next to none right now. Finger crossed on those jobs!

Purple is my history colour. I colour-code a lot of my stuff, and then get sad when I canāt use the highlighter I want to use. Does that make sense? Anyways this highlighter is my favourite, so I used it for the class I thought I would enjoy the most (history).
I have my history exam tonight, so thatās why everythingās purple. Me and a friend were going over essay topics and discussion questions. This morning I had my genetics final (colour-coded orange), and that wasnāt too bad. After this I have a bit of a break since my human biology (colour-coded green) exam isnāt until Monday.Ā
Chemistry exam is done, and now itās on to Biology (specifically genetics, evolution and ecology). ^ this is my cheat sheet for that exam. I wouldnāt normally make a concept map, but that was a requirement to get the bonus point. I also have a history exam tomorrow, but thatās not until 7pm so Iām just gonna study tomorrow during the day (pray for me aha).Ā
I definitely shouldāve done more studying yesterday, but I went shopping instead (whoops). Honestly I was worried about getting burnt out from one exam.Ā
Also shown are how much Iāve slept the past few days according to my fitbit. Guess which one was before the exam and which was after haha, as well as John Mulaney again (this time Oh Hello on Broadway)
