i wonder, if early on when iris started ‘inviting’ himself to crash in Nyx’s house all the time to the point he practically lived there, if Nyx ever got fed up enough with him to kick him out….
since it’s early on and they aren’t as intertwined and joined at the hip like they are in present, back when they had way less patience with each other and the arguing actually had more resentment and anger than the tired, exhausted and bitter banter they have now.
i think early on Iris probably pushed Nyx’s boundaries enough (not helping out in the house that he’s staying at without permission, being a general slob and leaving dozens of bottles everywhere etc) , nyx would probably have to physically haul and throw him out if he got pissed enough.
iris would scoff, because he isn’t that attached to the place anyway, but after that he probably got a bit antsy when they finally get back on decent enough terms for Iris to start staying over again because he got reminded that, yeah, the 1x1 metal cell in public safety isn’t comfortable nor does it provide much dignity. He also doesn’t want to be roaming the streets or hanging out in 24h stores too long for public safety to start hunting him down.
at first i think nyx also just couldn’t stand having iris around because he’s useless and unlike angel devil has a big complaining rude mouth. then later some part of him started using staying over at his house as leverage to get iris to actually cooperate and work with him, and basically dangling it over him to get iris to do what he wants.
only to realise one day that maybe the house isn’t leverage anymore because iris hasn’t gone back to that miserable cell in months, and nyx would feel irritated if iris was out in the evenings. annoyed and bitter if he had just cleared up iris’s couch and table, and iris went out in the evening and nyx’s house feels like it’s back to how it was before, and there isn’t a guy messing up his couch and watching tv or digging through his kitchen. he isn’t lonely
