When I rescued my maincoon Wednesday, he was about 6 months old and terrified. I found him in a 6inch pipe and spent an entire day trying to coax him out with treats and food. By the time I managed to wrangle him into a cat carrier and bring him up to my apartment, I had to leave him in the bathroom until I could set up a space for him. I put a small cat tower in my spare room, a litter box, food and water, and blankets for him to feel comfortable. I put him in the spare room and left him alone for a day or so so he could get used to the space. I have two other cats that I kept away from him, and I would spend hours just sitting in the room at the door waiting for him to acclimatise. He was scared, and confused. When he started to get more comfortable, I would pirrito him up and give him love until he finally turned into a rag doll. It took nearly a month before I let my cats sniff around and meet each other, and two more months before he started exploring the entire apartment. He’s 11 now and sleeps on my back.
