•Can have random moment bursts of high intelligence but can also make severe laspses in judgements because of his mental state

•Considered the "rookie" of the group but is even more talented than most times Nightmare gives him credit for

•Has a hard time reading social cues and can often take something literally

•Pansexual, flirts with anyone but has a specific eye on a monster he will never confess the identity of

•Uses the names Murder and Dust interchangeably, absolutely hates being called anything else

• Was gaslit into thinking the ghost of his brother was a product of his broken mind, it makes him spiral sometimes

•His treatment of his subordinates varies, can either be super strict and abusive or fatherly but firm. (Horror and Killer get the most extreme ends of this range)

•His body was born as a vessel for a different more god-like creature, disguised and disfigured by the negativity in his soul (Dream is the exact same thing but uncorrupted)(Iirc this is different from Canon Dreamtale, but the old Nightmare is still a conscious being)

•Has a huge soft spot for children <10, he is intrigued by their innocence (it reminds him of his brother and what he himself used to be)

•All powerful and could destroy Nightmare, but chooses not to because it benefits him (and he thinks he's funny)

•Selectively mute, talks only when he wants to

• Very level headed and logical unless you invade his space and/or try and touch him (bro knows everything)

Papyrus:

Papyrus is very expressive as he is in the Original Undertale version. However, he is usually in a manic high, where he is very exaggerated, especially in his moments of anger. However, his anger isn't usually directed at Sans, but more at himself out of guilt. He feels bad that he has to lie to everyone, especially Sans, about what happened between him, Undyne, and Alphys. However, he does it because he thinks it is better if Sans doesn't know the truth.

He can have moments of mental derailing because of the weight of his mental guilt and the trauma of his events, with Sans being the only one who can calm him down. He has negative mental side effects because of the injury like Horror!Sans, including some mind fog (but not straight amnesia) and headaches.

He still does his puzzles, but they are much more disorganized now because of his mental decline. They are also more dangerous and trap-like, much to Sans' quiet fear and dislike. While he makes his puzzles, he will talk about nonsense. He will also cook with what he has, similar to Horror!Papyrus, except he will mostly only feed Sans to make sure his brother is as healthy as possible. He'll let Sans pass some around if there's extra, since he does care a little about the other residents.

Sans:

Sans is closer to his original Undertale form. He feels bad that he doesn't know the full story of what happened to Papyrus and isn't able to figure it out. At the same time, he doesn't want to start digging and investigating because he know it will upset Papyrus and drive him further into his manic protective state. He's scared that he'll lose Papyrus mentally, because he's the only constant in his life, and he's the only family he has.

This is also why he chooses to eat Ppayrus' special spaghetti, despite it tasting awful. His main priority is keeping himself and Papyrus together, because he wants to set an example for the remaining living residents. He still passes out rations (usually with Papyrus accompanying him) and is a favorite amongst Snowdin residents for his outward level headed nature.

Sans tries to keep some sense of normalcy despite the situation of his life, trying to humor his way out of his own fears and doubts. He also tries humor to cheer up Papyrus, which usually snaps him out of his breakdowns.

Papyrus:

•He overheard Alphys' plan to use Sans' eye instead of Sans and goes to confront Alphys and Undyne. Alphys tries to get rid of Papyrus in fear he's going to tell Sans and ruin the plan, but Undyne has doubts because she cares about Papyrus.

•Papyrus tries to defend himself from Alphys attack, but used more magic force than intended, accidentally attacking Undyne and mentally incapacitated her in the process. Her good eye falls, and Papyrus uses it.

•Papyrus never told Sans anything about what happened, but the mental trauma of nearly killing Undyne and knowing Alphys wants to hurt Sans drives him maniac, willing to even hurt others who pose any sort of threat to Sans.

Sans:

•Sans has no idea what happened with Papyrus, but knows more than he lets on, and the fear of losing his brother physically and mentally causes him to have a lot of anxiety. He is often fidgeting nervously and his eye lights are gone.

•He gets fed Papyrus' special spaghetti (with Papyrus often starving himself to take care of his brother), which caused his teeth to deform and stain.

•He still remains sentryman of Snowdin, but Papyrus never lets him go beyond the town for his safety (which he grows to be fine with). He doesn't use his magic anymore except occasional instances of teleporting.

Extra Info:

•The brothers are always close to one another. You see one, the other is always nearby. Befriend Sans, and Papyrus will not try to hunt you with his traps to feed his brother (maybe).

•Alphys is now ruler of the Underground because Undyne is in no mental state to rule. Rumors fly that Undyne is barely capable of speaking, occasionally being heard screaming Papyrus' name.

•Traps litter the Snowdin forest, some are effective, some are not. If you befriend Sans, he will tell you which ones work and how to avoid them. Papyrus will never kill directly because of his subconscious morals, but his traps can still be lethal.

Now it was morning again, with the time on the clock being the only indication of time you had down there. There was no change in the sky, since this was underground, but you didn't want to think about that. You were determined to continue your journey out regardless.

You slowly put on your shoes, making sure there was no more visible snow in them before you put them on. They fit snugly back onto your feet, even with the slight dampness in the insides due to the snow that had melted overnight. You could then feel as Sans reached over and smoothed one side of your hair which you didn't even realize was sticking up. You jumped slightly at the contact but recovered just as fast. Sans chuckled softly at the fact he had startled you, his cold bony fingers continuing to smooth down your hair. It felt weird against your head, but it also felt parental in a weird way. You decided to stand still and let him fix your hair a bit longer. Once it was all settled, Sans stepped away from behind you, shuffling his feet slightly to face you. He then gave you a playful wink.

(glad i don't have hair to worry about.) You laugh slightly, finding Sans' lighthearted nature to be comforting. Your own laugh, in turn, caused Sans to chuckle lightly. He pats your shoulder in a friendly manner, still smiling. He had the same smile the whole time you've seen him, which hadn't broken once. It would be super impressive if it wasn't also sad. Sans kept his hand on your shoulder for an uncomfortably growing amount of time. Eventually, Sans got a hold of his emotions and let go. He wanted to ask you to stay just a little longer, since this was the first time he had been this open to someone since he had become recluse, after Papyrus' disappearance and all. Sans sighed, looking at you. Then, finally, he spoke up.

(hey, kiddo. just- promise me you'll be safe on your journey, okay?) You couldn't help but think Sans sounded a lot like Toriel in that moment. However, you still found it sweet at how much he cared about you. You find yourself smiling even wider. You promise Sans that you'll be as safe as you possibly could. Then, you had an idea. Before Sans could say anything else, you lean forward and give him a hug, wrapping your arms around his ribcage. His jacket smelled kind of funny, but you didn't mind. Sans froze, genuinely surprised at the sudden show of physical affection. He didn't push you away, though, which was a good sign. Eventually, Sans put his arms around you, exhaling a breath he didn't realize he was holding. He hugged you back, though not nearly as tight as you were hugging him. The two of you hugged for a few minutes, with Sans' slight tenseness relaxing. It had been a while since he had let himself be this emotional with anyone, so it felt like one of the many small weights being lifted off of his chest. He was the first one to pull away, quickly using his sleeve to wipe away a tear. He then gave you a big smile, the permanent smile on his face getting wider.

(you're a good kid.) His expression then suddenly got rather serious. You were confused at such an emotional switch, but didn't say anything. He looked at you intently.

(i'm serious about being safe. monsters down here aren't exactly... nice. especially undyne. she's been in a bad mood. she will not hesitate to kill you.)

You frown slightly, especially at the mention of this 'Undyne'. Whoever she was, she sounded dangerous. You couldn't help but worry a bit, taking Sans' warning to heart. You give Sans a nod, a silent promise to obey his request. Sans seemed to accept your answer, going back to relaxing. Then, his eye lights fixated on the door behind you before looking back at your directly.

(You should probably head off. I won't drag you down.)

Your gaze looks at the door was well. You both knew that you had to keep going. Your feet start to shift against the floor as you slowly approach the door. You slowly reach up and put your hand on the door handle, cold to the touch. You then pull on it and slowly push the door open, the bitter cold of Snowdin whooshing against your face in an instant. You look behind you at Sans one last time. He watches you from a distance away, still smiling.
