Akashi: He had noticed his partner nodding off on the couch, but he knew they were fully knocked out when their head landed on his lap. Automatically, a soft expression appeared on his face and his hand reached out to move the stray hairs from in front of their face, to tucked behind their ear. Even though they weren’t talking, he felt extremely content and it seemed for a moment, the world had stopped and all he could hear was the even breathing of his beloved partner. 

Aomine: He had finally given into letting his partner lay on his lap, after they had told him that he had laid on theirs for one too many times. He was finally getting used to being the lap pillow for once until he had felt the urge to go to the bathroom. With his fingers crossed that they were awake, he cautiously called out their name. As he was greeted with silence, he cursed, not having the heart to stand up when his partner was sleeping so peacefully. “You owe me,” he growled, shaking his leg slightly to hopefully get rid of the urges. 

Kise: Kise was on his own excited monologue about his experience modelling with an extremely famous veteran model, but he stopped mid-sentence after hearing a small snore from his partner lying on his lap. Kise smiled slyly, sneakily planting a few kisses on their cheek and neck, before he too, fell asleep while stroking their hair. 

Kuroko: They were watching a movie, Kuroko’s arm placed over their waist, while they laid on his lap. Kuroko honestly found the movie extremely interesting, all of his attention was on the screen. But this attention was diverted by a muffled snore. He called out their name, but received no reply. He gave a small smile, and wrapped his arm around them a little more tightly in hopes of protecting them from any nightmares. 

Midorima: His hand was placed awkwardly on their shoulder, but as soon as their body relaxed and their eyes closed, he knew they were asleep. His back stiffened, not sure whether to go get them a blanket or to leave them be. Would they catch a cold? Is this what Oha Asa meant by “unexpected malady”? As he tried to stand up, they grunted, and gripped onto his pants. Midorima instantly turned red, and quickly sat back down. He wouldn’t mind doing this for a little longer.

“And I just want to say...” Kise took a deep breath. “That I love you. Will you go out with me?”

A peculiar silence lingered in the air. It wasn’t awkward, nor comfortable. His crush averted his eyes nervously before answering.

“I’m sorry,” they whispered, delivering a stab to his rapidly beating heart. “I already have someone.” Yet another swift jab. “He asked me a few days ago.” Kise’s eyes widened, his picture-perfect smile fading off his lips. “Who might that be?”

His crush could feel the storm approaching as they uttered their significant other’s name. It was that name. The name which delivered the finishing blow to Kise’s already torn heart. The name of his closest friend.

The friend who knew.

Kise vividly remembered the two of them laughing together in an empty classroom. The door flew open and a student came running in, pulling out a stack of books from under their desk before rushing to the door again. At the door, they seemed to suddenly remember something as they turned around and said, “Sorry for the intrusion!” before sprinting out.

Both of them stared at each other before bursting out in laughter. “What was that?” his friend choked. Kise gazed at the door with a warm smile. “That one’s a cute one.”

At that time, Kise overlooked the shocked expression on his friend’s face before they forced a laugh and slapped the back of his head. How his friend always seemed to be pointing them out. How they avoided the topic whenever Kise tried to ask for advice. But now he understood.

He wasn’t the only one who fell for his crush.

Kise mentally placed a wall between him and his crush. He flashed his model’s smile, and laughed as he would with any other person. “Of course it’s him! He’s my best friend, how wouldn’t I know? I wish you happiness in your relationship!”

It was the bland taste on his lips once again. His lifted his head from his last victim, taking a deep breath. With this, how long could he survive without consuming the life of another being?

He had been waiting too long. Was God testing his patience? Why was he not born a human? Why were they not born a vampire? All he wanted to do was to have them in his life once more, and this time he wasn’t planning to let go of them that easily. 

Dreams can come true. The irresistible being standing by the street that day was unmistakably his soulmate. Their full perfection in one piece, seeming to emit an angelic aura. They were too precious to approach, or even touch. They were a mortal, and he was a vampire. 

Shaking with self-conflict, he roughly turned his back and walked in the opposite direction. He didn’t want to get too greedy. Not even the love he had for them for what seemed like an eternity, could make them remember him. But a light tap on his back sent a flicker of hope his way. 

It was them, in all their glory. “Ah sorry,” they quickly apologized. “I just thought you were someone I knew.” Bingo. “Really?” Aomine smirked, knowing this was probably the only chance he had. It was now or never. 

Tears streamed down his face. This feeling was familiar. He tightened his grip on their weak hand, trembling. “Don’t forget me after I go, okay?” they whispered. He tried his absolute best to smile for them. “How could I ever forget you?” he choked. “I will see you again. I have to see you again. Lifetime after lifetime.” 

“I love you,” they uttered, smiling. 

His heart dropped as he saw their eyes slowly close. He leaned down to give them the softest peck.
