      beautiful.  an  adjective  meaning  pleasing  to  the  senses  or  mind  aesthetically   ,   &.  to  many   ,   blake  is.  she  sees  herself  as  deathly  toxin  ,  the  flower  they  tell  you  to  look  at  from  afar  lest  you  fall  victim  to  its  vile  pollen    ,   but  to  everyone  else  she  is  a  masterpiece  among  men.  they ‘ d  say  she  was  wrought  in  angel  bone   ,   a  ‘  sight  for  sore  eyes  ‘  so  to  speak   ,   but  not  once  has  she  believed  it.  partially  due  to  annoyance   &.   lack  of  interest  of  such  advances   ,   partially  due  thinking  of  it  as  simply  untrue   ,   yet  here  she  is  anyway.   rethinking  everything  she  had  decided  truth   ,   having  mismatched  eyes  open  for  the  first  time  in  what  appears  to  be  an  eternity   &.   what ‘ s  more  is  the  fact  that  it ‘ s  fox  giving  life  to  this  sudden  revelation.   he ‘ s  never  been  one  for  many  words   ,   opting  to  keep  them  bare  minimum  or  kept  away  from  everyone  else  in  the  sanctums  of  their  minds   ,  so  he ‘ ll  have  to  forgive  her  for  this  silence  that  befalls  atropa ‘ s  petals.  blake  has  no  words  just  yet   ;   they  are  but  ghostly  hymns  in  the  back  of  throat   ,   slowly  working  up  tongue   &.   yearning  for  release   ,   but  she  does  not  grant  them  that  wish.   what  a  trickster  he  is   :   engraving  his  renegade  mark  into  the  very  marrow  of  blake ‘ s  bones   ,   inciting  light   &.   warmth  to  blossom  where  decay   &.   withering  had  once  lay  claim   ,   a  cunning  red  fox  always  one  step  ahead  of  a  mind  tired  of  racing.   he  has  been  there  at  one  of  the  lowest  moments  of  her  life    ,   stood   &.   listened  to  laboured  breaths  right  before  she  fled  into  the  chaos   &.   disarray  of  beacon ‘ s  demise   ,   &.   he  still  finds  a  reason  to  picture  her  as  a  beautiful  piece  of  poetry.   blind  fox  may  be   ,   but  it  is  in  this  moment  that  blake  wonders  if  he  truly  has  the  best  vision  after  all.  she  moves  closer  to  long  lost   &.   found  companion  where  they  sit   :   the  remains  of  an  old  temple  in  the  vast  wilds  of  vacuo ‘ s  desert    ,   watching  the  sun  set  o ‘ er  dunes   ,   feeling  the  welcoming  heat  of  sun  upon  their  skin  in  these  last  few  hours  of  daylight.

      &.  that  is  exactly  when  blake  rests  her  head  against  fox ‘ s  shoulder   ,   battleworn  hand  coming  to  settle  atop  his  own  without  any  prior  warning.   ❝  art  is  supposed  to  make  you  feel  something   ,   isn ‘ t   it   ?  sometimes  it  doesn ‘ t  always  come  off  as  the  best   ,  but  if  it  makes  you  stop   &.   think   ,  then  it ‘ s  doing  its  job. ❞   is  she  deflecting  his  blatant  compliment   ?  no  ,  no.  just  saving  time  as  she  processes  it  over   &.   over   ,   letting  it  play  on  record  repeat  in  psyche.  if  he  connected  with  her  aura  now   ,   he  would  likely  hear  every  bit  of  it.  she  also  just  likes  hearing  his  actual  voice  when  she  can   ;   it ‘ s  calming   ,   brings  her  to  a  happy  place   &.   sends  a  plethora  of  unspoken  glee  dancing  along  spine.   ❝  i ‘ ve  never  seen  myself  that  way.  i  used  to  think  i  was  just  . . .  made  for  hurting  people   ,   that  my  voice  was  just  a  warning  for  whatever  bad  was  yet  to  come   ,  but   —   hearing  you  say  that  so  much  makes  me  realize  how  wrong  i ‘ ve  been. ❞   she  wonders  how  big  vuples’  ego  must  be  upon  hearing  this   ,   how  wide  of  a  grin  or  smirk  he ‘ s  starting  to  don   ,  but  what  she  speaks  is  the  truth.  blake  wouldn ‘ t  be  here  if  it  weren ‘ t  for  him.  dare  she  say  she  wouldn ‘ t  be  who  she  is  now  if  it  weren ‘ t  for  fox ‘ s  constant  pestering  back  at  beacon   ?   it  isn ‘ t  something  the  elusive  bakeneko  wishes  to  think  about.  not  right  now.    ❝  . . .  you ‘ re  lovely  too   ,  you  know.  most  people  would ‘ ve  given  up  after  going  through  all  you  have   ,   but  you ‘ re  still  here.   &.   you ‘ re  smiling. ❞   i  envy  that.   i  want  to  be  brave  like  you   ,  not  let  my  past  ruin  me  so.   ❝  you ‘ re  lovely  in  the  way  storms  are   :   fun  to  look  at  from  afar   ,   but  a  special  treat  if  you  get  close.  if  art  is  supposed  to  make  people  feel   ,  then  you ‘ ve  made  me  feel  braver.  ❞   there  she  is   ,   rambling  something  so  sweet   &.  poetic  again.  before  nightshade  can  say  anything  further   ,   she  can  feel  a  swoop  of  pink  crossing  curvature  of  cheeks   &.   she  clears  her  throat.

      it ‘ s  easy  to  run  away  ,  flee  into  the  shadows  with  an  enemy  on  your  tail  &.  hope  &.  pray  that  you  make  it  out  alive  unscathed  ,  but  what  if  you  don ‘ t  run   ?   it ‘ s  difficult  to  be  brave  in  times  like  this  ,  when  the world  is  crashing  down  on  you   &.   the  odds  are  designed  to  make  one  feel  small   &.   weak   ,   but  sometimes  you  just  have  to   ;   you  have  to  fight  tooth  &.  nail  until  your  very  fingertips  are  bleeding   &.  your  jaw  is  locking  up  from  clenching  your  teeth.  until  your  teeth  are  bared   for  your  enemy  to  see   &.  be  frightened  of.  blake  heart  reaches  a  thundering  staccato  within  ivory  confines   ,   heels  pounding  on  both  academy  hallways   &.   mantle  streets  like  her  very  life  depends  on  it   ,   until  she  is  out  of  breath   &.  fueled  by  naught  sheer  adrenaline.  the  rest  of  her  team  managed  to  squeeze  by  ironwood ‘ s  forces   ,   come  out  victorious   &.  make  their  venture  elsewhere   ,  but  what  about  robyn   ?   what  about  the  inevitable  scenario  of  ironwood  coming  for  her   ,   armed   &.  ready  to  take  out  yet  another  obstacle  in  this  awful  operation  thinly  veiled  under  the  excuse  of  sacrifice.  left  &.  right  shall  frantic  blue  -  golds  pan  ,  down  every  street   &.  ‘ round  every  corner   ,  taking  out  the  occasional  grimm  with  bestial  growl  rumbling  in  the  back  of  nightshade ‘ s  burning  throat.  don ‘ t  waste  my  time.  not  now.  

      robyn  has  to  know   ,   doesn ‘ t  she   ?   she  heard  ruby ‘ s  cry  for  help  over  everyone ‘ s  scroll   ,   how  ironwood ‘ s  name  led  spawn  to  thorny  terror   &.  dread   ,   got  the  message  blake  sent  despite  sending  the  text  half  way  through   &.   dropping  scroll  without  much  thought.   so  why  can ‘ t  she  find  her  now   ?   how  far  could  she  have  gotten  ? !   ironwood  couldn ‘ t  have  . . .  not  that  fast   ,   right   ?   a  wrecked  cry  of  the  huntresses  name  claws  betwixt  chapped  lips   ,   beyond  the  boundaries  of  lost  breath   &.  a  pained  throat   ,   all  until  a  flash  of  blue  -  green  crosses  bakeneko ‘ s  vision  ,  accompanied  by  a  mass  of  artificial  soldiers  following  just  behind.   ❝  robyn   !  ROBYN   !  ❞   felines  are  not  meant  to  howl  like  wolves   ,   yet  blake  does  so  anyway   ,   desperation  ever  prominent  in  shattered  tonality  along  the  way.   no  sooner  is  gambol  shroud ‘ s  ribbon  slinging  her  across  the  gap   &.   blake  crashes  straight  into  the  head  of  one   ,   sending  it  across  the  street   with  a  painful   ‘   SCREECH   !   ‘   &.  blasting  a  round  of  fire  laced  bullets  at  the  other.  her  eyes  are  blown  wide   ,   hands  visibly  shaking  as  she  holds  gambol  shroud  so  tight  her  knuckles  turn  white.
