video games are a wonderful escape from reality until you see your reflection in the loading screen

In the Heights is one of my favorite musicals of all time. It’s a musical that is full of Latinos and tells their story. I just finished the movie adaptation and I fell in love with the musical all over again. As a latina, it was emotional to watch a cast that looked like me. That they weren’t reduced to a racist stereotype or a meaningless side character. The movie did a fantastic job with the musical numbers and the story. I’m so happy that they added in the element of dreamers and the impact of undocumented citizens. Overall, this has to be my favorite movie of the year so far. 10/10
