Congrats on your first practice! The first one is so important cause its the start of something magical new! 

Now that we’ve passed my cheesy (or amazing) movie reference, lets talk derby. Skating co-ed is a bit different than skating on an all “Women's” or “Mens” team. Skating in a junior league is a bit different too. Good thing about this is you will have experience skating with everyone and your starting young! 

So for your first day, being nervous is okay! Every skater was! Hey guess what? A few months ago i was nervous for my first day with a new team, and i’ve been skating for three years! So don’t worry about if you’ll be good enough or fall a lot. All the best skaters are still growing and still fall too. Theres a good chance you’re not the only new skater either! You are gonna be great as long as you go in with a heart to skate and a head to grow as a skater. 

Remember: 

You are going to grow at your own pace. So, don’t focus on what other skaters are doing and how fast or slow they learned it.

Your skates are your friends! The more time you spend with in them the, more comfortable you will be with them.

Falling is okay! Falling means you’re trying! Thats what’s gonna make you a great skater. PERSEVERANCE! Its tiring, I know, but keep trying. Practice all the time, but don’t forget to have fun. Roller Rinks are a great hangout when you’re not on “derby skate time”.

Get in the derby spirit and spend time in the community! Go to bouts, watch derby online, spend time with derby friends and teammates on and off skates, (watch my Youtube Channel ;D) all these things make being a skater more exciting and fun!
