THE NEWS ABOUT LARISSA WEEMS' DEATH had certainly taken her off guard, though she refused to acknowledge it in such a way that might give away real emotion. Though it was still clear upon expression that she very much cared about the subject matter, her eyes practically glaring as jaw locked in place with tension. Her entire demeanor rather strained, attempting to maintain even just an ounce of composure as fingers clasped together tightly in front of her. ❝ What happened? ❞

It was no surprise that after everything that had happened in the last twenty-four hours, that the school was ending the semester early. Though Wednesday found that she wasn’t as apprehensive about seeing her family as she had been when they’d visited a few weeks before. “Laurel Gates.” She answered rather bluntly. She was tired, had only just finished packing her things in time to be picked up from Nevermore, and now she was standing in the Addams’ family living room, facing her mother. “She was determined to destroy the school. Principal Weems tried to stop her.” 

“Oh, um, y-you don’t have to do that,” he says subconsciously pulling his hand closer to his chest and grimacing at the pain that jolted from his finger. “R-really. I’m fine with just going to the nurse.” It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her to put it back correctly. He was sure with her strange range of knowledge, she could fix it perfectly, but he was more comfortable having someone that was a professional to relocate it.

It didn’t go unnoticed by Wednesday that he pulled his hand protectively closer to him, a frown crossing her lips. “I know exactly what I’m doing.” She assured him. “My brother has an affinity for putting his hands in dangerous situations, and has dislocated plenty of fingers. Neither my mother nor father know how to put them back into place properly.” Wednesday didn’t understand Ajax’s hesitation. She thought most people disliked pain - surely he’d want it fixed as soon as possible?

"Of course..." He should have guessed. Thing was her helping hand in all her schemes, nefarious or otherwise. Which begged the question of what she was scheming now that she had broken her way into his dorm room. "You didn't answer my other question, by the way. What are you doing here?"

She briefly wondered what she would have done at Nevermore without Thing, but it didn’t do any good to contemplate such alternates. She was glad for him regardless. “I need to go back to the Gates mansion. Enid made me promise not to go out alone again. But she’s on a date with Ajax. So you’re up.” 

         VIOLET HAD TO FORCE herself to hold back the fit of laughter brewing inside of her. wednesday’s face was absolutely priceless, she adored it. violet picked up the black puppy from the box and let it lick her face excitedly, giggling.    ❛    come on, you can’t tell me this precious baby isn’t the cutest thing   ?    ❜    she stated, setting it down and letting it approach the raven-haired girl. she folds her arms over her chest and watches the melodrama unfold before her.      ❛     scorpion is pretty cool.    ❜

When Violet let the puppy lick her face, Wednesday’s face scrunched up with disgust. “I can and I will.” Her idea of cute was not the writhing bundle of fluff in the other girl’s arms, and she didn’t want it anywhere near her. However, Violet had other ideas, putting the puppy down and letting it waddle over to her. Wednesday held her ground, but made no effort to interact with the thing. “I prefer my animals to serve a purpose - like providing venom.”

“you know…” kate started as she looked at the shorter girl. there was a lot of thoughts. never knowing how dark someone could truly be. yet here’s wednesday. exceeding those expectations. she was quite impressed actually. “i’ve never had a pet scorpion.. what is that like?”

The question caught Wednesday off-guard, and she took a moments pause. “He was the best pet I ever had.” But the crushing circumstances of his death had meant she never really bonded with an animal after that. Sure, she had cultivated plenty of animals - she was particularly good at breeding Black Widow spiders - but she’d never cared for them quite like she had for Nero.

“Y-yeah, I tried to catch myself when I fell during fencing and landed on my hand wrong. I was just headed to the nurse.”

Wednesday glanced down at the hand Ajax was holding gingerly in front of him. “No need. I can put it back in for you.” She’d fixed many of her brother’s dislocated joints over the years. 

Nervousness painted over the redhead’s features, teenaged embarrassment that would’ve quickened her heartbeat had she had one leaving her fidgeting with her fingers until Wednesday’s answer was given. All of that anxiety is silenced as the shorter girl rocked up to meet her lips with her own. Cool touch gently cups the other’s jaw as she returns the almost chaste kiss.

As the kiss is broken, the redhead leans back just enough to brush the tip of her nose against the other’s with a giddy smile playing lightly flushed features. “Happy New Year, Wednesday.”

There’s no flash of murderous intent this time when Wednesday’s lips meet Jessica’s, something that she is thankful for. And she lets out an internal sign of relief. She didn’t even know she’d been harboring that fear. But it was one that was quickly dismissed when no vision struck her. A hand came up to gently brush against her cheek and Wednesday couldn’t help the shiver of enjoyment. 

She found herself slightly disappointed when the kiss was broken, Jessica pulling away. “Happy New Year.” She echoed the other’s words, even if she didn’t believe in the sentiment. A glance over her shoulder, to see Enid and Ajax still distracted by each other, and for a moment, Wednesday had a sliver of understanding at why they were so enamored with their PDAs. 

Wednesday had never been good with her emotions. She’d discovered at an early age that there were plenty of feelings that she didn’t want to experience, and so the young girl had locked them away, distanced herself from them. 

But no one could evade all emotions forever, and in that moment, Wednesday found herself overwhelmed, sinking down the wall, knees pulled to her chest. 

When Xavier appeared, she couldn’t help the internal flinch. She didn’t want to hear his comments about her being a real human after all, or trying to reassure her. She didn’t want any of that, didn’t need it. She just needed a moment. 

However, he didn’t say anything, simply joined her on the floor, sitting beside her in silence. And somehow...that helped. “---Thanks.” She finally whispered.
