Tell them nothing! ⬛⬛ The Mon Calamari, Lieutenant Bek is my new favorite thing ever. GOAT animatronic. ⬛⬛ This week at Disneyland, the cast has been given the opportunity to preview the new attraction, Rise of the Resistance. Of course, for those lucky enough to pick up on when testing was happening, we've already been on so this was more of an opportunity to take a guest. This makes ride #4 before the attraction even opened. ⬛⬛ So here are my brief two cents on Rise of the Resistance: this is one of the most ambitiously fun things I've ever seen Disney or anyone else do. What this attraction manages to do is nothing short of incredible, I've never seen something that can weave a story into the very fabric of the design the way this thing does. Puddles of Echelon ⬛⬛ Another one due to my conversations with @disneylandwithme (aka ReflectKing) about taking reflection photos. There's something about the Echelon that makes me want to take pictures of it, but it's something I have a hard time finding compositions for. Rainy day textures in the outpost ⬛⬛ I was talking with @disneylandwithme (aka ReflectKing) a while back about about taking pictures on phones and how they're the best for low reflection shots. It's hard to put the lens right in the water with a fat SLR, but a phone lens can be put right into it, essentially. I wouldn't have ever considered using my phone for anything before, but with the rainy days lately I decided to post one of the only photos you'll likely ever see that's been taken on my phone... ⬛⬛ For those who are going to ask, I took this on my Pixel 4 XL using the Night Mode settings. Sandy's Dog ◾ There's something about getting the simple shot. I've taken this photo many times and just liked the look of it this time. Lately I've been noticing myself going for what I would've considered the "easy" shot in the past, yet finding myself enjoying shooting that "easy" shot. Often times that shot ends up being more interesting than I would've anticipated just because I often look at things differently since the last time I shot it. For instance, I've gotten this photo so many times but I liked the foreground element of the dynamite candles. I've always wanted to do this... ◾ Oga's Cantina is a huge hit, and I don't think it's because of the drinks. Nothing starts the party like DJ R-3X, he's probably single-handedly the best thing in Galaxy's Edge...and he's a legacy character to boot! While I have no real interest in drinking (I don't do alcohol), the soundtrack that was put together for R-3X is incredible and if it's not sold at Dok-Ondar's in the near future I'll be very sad. Resist ◾ One thing I can applaud Galaxy's Edge for is the addition of Vi Moradi, the Resistance spy. She's a fun character who really gets into sneaking around and including guests in her antics. I've been standing right next to her and asked my friends "did you see Vi?" with the reply "no, who's that?" and been impressed with how well she slips in and out of the crowd and blends in. Sliding Under The Falcon ◾ I find it funny that guests aren't trusted well enough that a fence had to be erected around the Falcon. It's interesting to me considering you 100% couldn't take a good portrait that close so most people probably wouldn't get that close. Anyways, this was slightly inspired by @tom_bricker's similar spot, just without the fisheye. Spires of Fireworks #FireworksFriday ◾ Watching fireworks from Batuu feels rather surreal. Not only does Galaxy's Edge make you feel like you're no longer in Disneyland, when the fireworks go off it's rather jarring, at least in the way that it's jarring when you're near a location that shoots of fireworks but not physically in it. That helps with immersion but I'm under the impression they could still do more. Fireworks exist in Star Wars, they use them in celebrations throughout the series. Every day at 9:30pm, there should be an announcement from, maybe Oga, that they're celebrating something on Batuu and there will be fireworks. Then during the show they should just play some sort of basic celebration music like "Yub Nub" from ROTJ. The Dark Side of Batuu with @thedisneyduoo ◾ I'm unapologetically a fan of Savi's Workshop. I think it's far too expensive for just a hunk of metal and plastic, but the experience is probably one of the most Star Wars-feeling things you can do anywhere. If you have the dough and the interest in joining the new generation of Force users, it's a very intimate and intricately themed show. Chris is holding his custom Power and Control saber here, complete with a red kyber crystal. Falcon Archway ◾ There's no shortage of things to say about #GalaxysEdge and I don't have enough characters to write it in a description here. I'm writing away on @micechat if you wanna actually read any of that. What I can say is that Black Spire Outpost shines the best during the evening. The lighting package really works well and makes everything pop well without over-saturating or overexposing things. I took a lot of general wide photos like this one, even at not so great angles just to try to capture some of the lighting (I'm still toying where the best place to shoot the Falcon is because it's so dang LARGE, but I think moving a little further left here could've created a more cohesive composition. I'll give it a go another time). There are mixed reviews of the actual attraction but the Falcon courtyard is a major win. Castle Stardust ◾ I'm a huge fan of Kim Irvine's color redesign of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Wherein the castle used to blend in at the end of Main Street, now it really pops like a storybook castle. Riverboat Fireworks ◾ If you've been following me long enough, you know that I really love unique locations for #FireworksFriday. It's often why I don't post a lot of fireworks photos despite the fact that I do take them, I'm always looking for something a little more interesting than just Main Street or the castle. Anyways, they didn't kick me off my evening cruise on the Mark Twain so I decided to stay and watch for a moment. The Future of the Full Moon ◾ Whew, took a while to fix some computer issues, but I finally was able to get back to editing a few things. Getting just the right angle on anything around Disneyland where the moon didn't look like a speck high in the sky turned out to be pretty difficult. This particular photo forced me up against a wall in Tomorrowland and required a lot of patience. There aren't many other subjects tall enough where you can shoot this kind of angle with a moon so high up, do you have any you can think of? ◾ For those who haven't tried to photograph the moon, it's difficult because it moves! So I had to shoot wide open so I could get it in a relatively still state. Because the aperture is so open, I also couldn't keep both my foreground and background in focus. So that immediately required me to take two exposures. And yes, the moon moves, so you have to move the in-focus version around and fit it on top of the out-of-focus one. On top of that, the Orbitron isn't lit very bright so the shadows get harsh. As a photographer you learn to live and get creative with the limitations of your equipment! Often I do a little highlight recovery, but in this particular image I did shadow recovery; same process, different results.
