A Conversation About Colorism
I didn't include any visuals for this so we can get rid of the preconceived notions of colorism by only having the voice and how listening changes our perceptions of colorism and people's experiences rather than watching them and reacting to it.
My Black is Proud
My response to a prompt that wanted me to address something in reverse or with the backstory. I decided to focus on my hair and blackness in culture.

Whispering Hills
Whispering Hills is a thriller that explores being black in white spaces and the inner conflict of staying true to one's self and fitting in the status quo.
Tanisha Walters is a black graphic designer that has just gotten hired to a Creative Firm full time instead of freelancing. Because of this job, she is able to move into a nicer neighborhood closer at the request of her close friend Derek. She is uncomfortable because everything is new and she is not surrounded by her friends that helped her get to where she is. She meets her neighbor Ramona and is not convinced of this decision even more because of the treatment Ramona gives her and her subtle racist actions.
At work, Tanisha finds herself getting into an office romance with the head of HR, Leo, a black man who is settled in his position in white spaces where he is black enough. In Leo, Tanisha finds the opposite of Derek.
But everyone's views are no match to the inner turmoil of Tanisha's pressure to want to fit in as they manifest into whispers that tell her what others think of her in their spaces. It's up to Tanisha to figure out who she will listen to and how she will change to adjust to her new environments.
Premiered April 30th at the Stray Cat Film Center, this is the culmination of my senior thesis.

Khai: A Documentary About Growth.
Khai is projected to be a documentary that centers around my pregnancy, the impending arrival of my kid, and how my life is changing rapidly. Themes I've been running into is the idea of beauty, happiness, and love as I find myself still trying to be 'normal' and do normal things while dealing with weight gain and weird facial discoloring, not being able to control my emotions as easily I could before, and doing the process without the father with my family to fill that void. The film follows me around throughout when I can bring my camera, as I either talk about my feelings or through the eyes of someone else and doctor visits. I'm still trying to find a balance between what I show the camera and what I don't. I plan for this to be done right before Khai is born thereabouts if he comes on time, with the ending being open and ready for the next chapter which will be with him.

Khai: A Documentary of Growth. 23 Weeks
I realized that during the second half of my pregnancy, my brother wouldn't be a part of it since he goes to school out of state. He decided to come with me to my next appointment and I had him just talk about himself and his thoughts about being an uncle. A few days later, I had to go back to the doctor due to some odd symptoms that could have indicated early labor. But it wasn't that. They also checked on me since I started an antidepressant and I had suicidal thoughts right after and had to go to the ER. I didn't film that because they took my phone and everything away from me. Khai: A Documentary About Growth. Week 22
This week was very hard on me emotionally. Every high I had lasted for a few moments before I crashed down hard. I wasn't really eating or drinking or taking my pills and really just wanted to end it. I was upset about my ex and how small little things made me think of him and remind me of my loneliness. I spent a lot of nights just crying and not seeing a way out. This ended up coming out as I didn't really film and had to combine the one video I did for week 21 and the few I did for week 22 into this. The written words are provided by an instagram post I made of me reflecting back on my ex and missing him. The music is also there because it's a song that reminds me of him and captures to me, the mood--though juxtapositioned--of what I was going through emotionally.
Khai: A Documentary About Growth. Week 20
I got sick. The winter weather and dealing with customers before/after the holidays got me. Being pregnant, I couldn't take a lot of medicines and antibiotics to really fight the sickness, so I stayed constant with being ill until that day. I went to the doctor and got some pregnancy safe medicine to take that really started to clear me up. But this video ultimately focuses on my struggle with dealing with other people seeing me as a person to open up to about their experiences. I thought that I would be okay with this as I would want someone to open up to as well, but I am not a professional and this subject of choices ei keeping the baby, adoption, and abortion, are all still very new and sore spots for me as I still dealt with my decision and somedays struggled with my decision. Khai: A Documentary About Growth. Week 19
I have a lot of thoughts about what I want for Khai and his life. Every new mom has those thoughts for their baby. For me, I want him to be loved. I want to be the person he looks up to and for him to know that he can overcome anything. I know I can't control it, but that doesn't matter to me as I love him and hope for the best. I don't want my pregnancy to get in the way of my social life and I attempted to go out to a house show. It was too loud and I ended up having some stress/pregnancy issues. They ended up being minor and resolved at my next appointment. The longer version is here.
Khai: A Documentary About Growth. Week 18
I decided to film the big day of my second-trimester ultrasound where they checked everything to make sure Khai was growing correctly. I had my mom film the ultrasound for me since I would be occupied. This also became an exploration and trial and error as I figured out if this is what I really wanted to do with my semester, focusing on myself. As the day went on, ending with the ultrasound, I realized that this film is cathartic and helps me come to terms with my situation as a whole. For the longer version here.

This is a Little Girl
This is a character study about a little girl and the world that she interacts. This is the final edit and I decided to go more experimental to enhance the unnaturalness of the environment's colors.
Oreos
For this project, we had to construct a match on action that didn’t necessarily have to have a narrative. This is about a child’s adventure to go get Oreos.
Interview with an Eight Year Old
For this project, we had to describe a person, and I decided to do a video with my sister. I experimented with the color of lights as well. If I were to do it again, I would have more B-roll with her with the same lighting and maybe try different colors rather than ones that are similar.
Recent Olathe Northwest graduate and Overland Park, Kansas, resident and filmmaker Kharrington DeBose shares her recently finished documentary "Almost There", which chronicles the Kansas City indie music scene from the perspective of six local musicians. The film reflects DeBose's deep love of music, the artists who make it, and the city that inspires its creation. The film is a true labor of love and signals uncommon talent.

Bob's Take on Brush Creek II (2016)
Bob's a lawyer who knows a bit about the creek. I found him in Theis Park hitting some golf balls and had him talk a bit. The video highlights the drainage system, the pollution in the stream, and also the under use of the parks around in general. Voice Over: Dorian DeBose (because of the wind and stuff from the real interview)
Bob's Take on Brush Creek (2016)
Bob, a lawyer, briefly talks about what he knows about the local creek. It's still my brother's audio with script two because I didn't see my dad at all this weekend. The concrete was overflowed with rain water, I didn't think it was safe to climb down because of toxins and pollutants.
