itβs really funny that βtradcathβ means the exact opposite of what youβd expect etymologically speaking
A βtraditional Catholicβ is any randomly generated Mexican that has attended Sunday mass and thoughtlessly agreed with papal writ their entire life. A βtradcathβ is a United States Protestant

...I want a farm sim where you get to play a fat cowgirl... it doesn't need to be horny you just need to be fat and a cow...
Not enough cow girl images are fat. It's cows. Be fatter

Me when I contact IT and tell them yes I restarted and followed any instructions I could but computer still angry and IT says they are escalating this because it is an actual issue: I am getting a good grade in service desk ticket. Something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve.

Yesterday a kid said to me "excuse me? Your hair looks like beautiful anime hair" which is already amazing and then she said "watch me on your camera when I go down the slide I'm going to do the Peter Griffin death pose when I come out" and she sure did.

I'm not saying that moonlight peaks is AI. I think that's a hefty accusation to throw around and that is not what I am feeling. however the art style feels so uncomfortably mainstream that I feel the way I do when I look at ai-generated marketing videos for things.

village in the shade launched today. farm sim with the exact aesthetics and environment I've been craving in a farm sim for ages. horror elements. absolutely gorgeous. very japanese setting in a genre that tends to self-westernize even when made by japanese devs.
all marketing in english. promotional materials in english. game does not launch with english.
reviews from chinese players mention a nice price point. 238 yuan, roughly $35 usd. price point in america is $50. this is frankly insane for a farm sim. like, nearly 3 times the cost of a standard farm sim. I considered not getting moonlight peaks because $35 is really fucking pushing it. and it's not possible to change language settings after starting, so if you buy now, you can't even play until october-ish anyway. what was the point of launching it in this region today if it's not playable by the majority of people in this region. why is it fifty united states dollars. why does it have to be absolutely everything I've ever wanted in a farm sim except reasonably priced. it's the same price as the deluxe editions they're selling but with none of the stuff you get for buying the deluxe edition. why is it $15 more expensive in the US. why did nis america release it in america in such a way that the majority of americans cannot reasonably play and enjoy it.
so I guess I'm hoping for the winter sale to bring this in the "actually reasonably priced" range...
anyways if you want a good farm sim that's priced by people who actually know what the market for farm sims is like, both my time at portia and my time at sandrock are on sale right now and you could buy two copies of each game in the series for less than the cost of village in the shade. the vibes are different and they're kinda weird as far as farm sims go (kinda push the definition tbh) but very good.
grimshire is another lovely pick. it's in early access but if you want a darker kind of farm sim, it's $15 and you get to be a woodland critter trying to survive the fuckin plague.
pumpkin days is kinda scuffed but it's only $16 and I truly do love it in spite of its tank controls in a farm sim. it's also one of the best farm sims in terms of general representation I've seen.
dave the diver is $18. it's not a farm sim and I haven't gotten around to playing it but I hear a TON of recommendations of it for farm sim enjoyers.
graveyard keeper is also a weird kind of farm sim. it's got less of the life sim-y elements but has a more dark atmosphere (well yeah, you are the guy handling bodies in a graveyard) and definitely scratches a similar itch. $20.
sakuna: of rice and ruin is a fantastic farming game from xseed games (also known for the rune factory games) for $30. it's less of a farm SIM (less focus on the life/social sim elements and more focused on a plot) but as a farming game I've never quite seen anything like it. if you're looking for a farming game with a japanese aesthetic this is absolutely your bag.
and on that note, you can get ANY of the rune factory games from 3 onward for $40 or less on steam. they're all great in their own rights. rune factory 4 is an absolute hallmark of the genre. in rune factory 3 you get to be a monster. rune factory 5 is also very fun. these got to be $40 because they came from established devs who we thought we'd never hear from again after they went bankrupt years ago. they also released in their regions in the languages most commonly spoken by the region they released in. guardians of azuma is $60 but it's kinda not really a rune factory either in spite of its name. the rune factory games are also spun off from the harvest moon franchise, which invented the genre as a whole.
I can't currently recommend moonlight peaks not because of any of its failings but because I don't know enough about it yet. I hear good things from people who enjoy disney: dreamlight valley, but where I'm concerned, that is not exactly a positive thing. (more in the sense that things enjoyed by disney: dreamlight valley enjoyers are enjoyed by people with differing tastes from me on an extremely fundamental level) I intend to play it myself on my own time before extending a recommendation to anyone, even secondhand recs, but the overall premise does interest me even if I do not vibe with the art style or the clear bend towards cozy gaming vs farm simming. (again this is personal taste--I am a goth who likes things that are dark and cool and I wish that the vampire farm sim was more the "dark and cool" type instead of the like, "halloween decorations where the bats have googly eyes and button noses and blushy faces" type) there is also a demo so you can try it out yourself first, which is I think the bare minimum for a farm sim costing more than $30.
