Petit Fou's colorful paper purses don't come with a lifetime guaranteebut they're pretty while they last.
I think this article might be super useful for next semester when we have to do the lamp project with only paper and no adhesive of any kind. Honestly, the idea of not using any adhesive and only paper to make a lamp terrifies me but I know I will come up with ideas and that I will let my creativity flow.
Embroidered Architecture Stephanie K. Clark
I first I thought these were paintings of different kinds of homes but as I scrolled further down to the caption I learned that these are embroideries. This is very unique and super creative. I do wish the artist’s point was that people live in all kinds of home and the definition of home means very different things for some people. Home can be people, places, etc. However, these are all very well done and I love the concept of embroidery as an art form.
Peace on Earth http://ift.tt/1Nv8712
This is really interesting because it takes in a different quality of a bird. I really like how the designer used line to creat this illustration of the bird because that is very much the style now in graphic design. I also like how it's Christmas themed and giving-themed because I love this time of year.

The design of this magazine cover and layout is really interesting. I don't know if the paper size is smaller than usual or if the pictures are skewed in some way but I think the smaller paper size works really well with the design. I really like the huge drop cap on the first page with written content in it because it offers something other than a photo for the eye to focus on. I also think that the drop cap's size is effective because it draws the eye to the written content and every layout designer knows that persuading the viewer to read the written content on the page is your main focus.

So far, 2015 (larger)
This is really interesting because I’m passionate about gun control and this infographic just shows how many mass shootings there have been in the US since the beginning of 2015. This infographic is easy to understand and comprehend but it also has a complexity to it that allows it to be sophisticated. I also like this infographic because I was on my high school’s student newspaper and I designed infographics all the time and this serves as an inspiration to me and my developing style.

What drew me to look more into this post was the first gif that showed the dot of the ‘i’ roll off of the two ‘l’’s. It was really interesting and fun to look at. AHH, super cute. I also just love the look of this font because it’s very sleek and professional-looking. It’s a serif font, yet it is still modern. I wonder what it would look like if I used it in one of my process books. Overall, I would say that this font is definitely one of my favorite fonts that I’ve seen so far.

This is interesting because they type clearly shows movement and displays the meaning of the phrase “Don’t Go.” This kind of relates to the project we have currently in BDS 103 because have to illustrate the meaning of a word by drawing the type. This can be challenging because sometimes some words are harder than others to illustrate their meanings. We learned that in the “What Language Looks Like” project in BDS 101.
Building in a Bottle http://ift.tt/1HbUhQx
This is quite interesting because it takes different perspective on a ship in a bottle and transforms it into a building in a bottle. Aesthetically I love the use of the white line of the bottle because it really flattens the three-dimensionality of the bottle although the base of the bottle highlights that three-dimensionality. The building is very cool graphically, as well. The building kind of looks like a federal building with the small window and the many floors.
Beautiful Solutions Project Reflection:
Although this project was not my favorite of the projects we have done so far in this class, I still enjoyed it a little bit. I was not my favorite mainly because it focused on Industrial Design. However, I did like how this project taught me more about brainstorming techniques and how to act in a group brainstorming setting. This project, way more than the others, taught me how to think creatively , critically, analytically and how to focus on the main task at hand. I learned that I found it hard at first to keep my criticisms of ideas in. This was particularly difficult to do in the second exercise, Deep Dive. I think it was hard mainly because I was having a hard time grasping the idea that our desk redesign did not have any limits. The limits that would normally exist in real world applications had no place in this exercise.
This project has set up a solid foundation of critical and creative thinking processes. I learned more about brainstorming techniques in this project than I ever have before in my life. The brainstorming techniques I learned will help me in my future career and the group brainstorming sessions I will partake in the future. I actually really excited for the opportunities in the future where I can discuss my ideas in a proper manner and express myself and my ideas.
I also learned a lot about different materials and properties of those materials. For example, wire is obviously made of metal, but it is also very hard to manipulate or make into straight pieces. That is the main reason I do not like using wire in my projects. It is way too unpredictable and I cannot work with materials that are that erratic. Cardboard is the worst, mainly because of the corrugated layer in between the two sheets of flat, thin layers. Canson paper works really well when trying to make quick little prototypes to illustrate the main idea. This project taught me so much that I can and will use in the future and I sincerely value those lessons.

halloweenies
This drew my attention because in my Drawing for Design class, over Halloween weekend, we had an assignment to complete a spooky drawing. All of these characters are Halloween-y and this really just served as inspiration for that drawing.
Hoiby
Self identity design by Kristina Hoiby
This post first drew my attention because the designer has my first name, but also because the pattern on the front of her business cards is very cute and abstract. When you un-focus your eyes and look at the front of the business card, the two dots and the long oval shape construct a face. I don’t know if that was intentional but I think it’s amazing either way.
Inside/Out of the Box Prototype and Final Design
First photo: This prototype used Canson gray paper, wire and our light bulb.
Second photo: This is a photo of the prototype we created to show our general idea to our classmates.
Third photo: This photo shows how the light bulb looks when the tin can is lifted up, exposing the light bulb.
Fourth photo: This shows, ideally, how this light bulb packaging would hang on a shelf in Home Depot or a specialty lighting store.
Fifth photo: This is the final prototype we created with a metal tin can, twine and our light bulb. We used a vintage-looking logo because our light bulb was kind of retro.
Sixth photo: This is just another view of how the light bulb looks when the can is lifted up to show the light bulb.
Inside/Out of the Box Exercise Reflection:
I enjoyed this exercise more than any of the other exercises because it incorporated all of the little exercises’ goals that we did before this one. Maybe it was because I really enjoyed working with Josie and Madison or maybe it was because of the idea of designing packaging seemed really cool. The mind maps that we made in the beginning of this exercise were a lot more fun than the mind maps we did for the Desk Redesign exercise. At first, the thought of completing a prototype of light bulb packaging seemed daunting and hard to complete on time, but in the end, it all worked out. I think the limited time frame forced us to go with a simple design but because we incorporated unique and different materials in our packaging, it made up for the simplicity of the prototype. I think, as an additional section of this exercise, completing a brand profile for the light bulb prototype would have been really cool. I have a fascination with branding so maybe that part of the assignment would have only appealed to me. I don’t know. I think that when I have a group that I enjoy working with and the group dynamic is flowing and clear, projects have a much better chance of succeeding to their fullest extent. This exercise taught me that mind maps and word lists have a really deserving place in the creative process because they really do bring all kinds of ideas to light and offer up so many options.
First photo: We created this mind map by first focusing on the physical attributes of the light bulb and then going to the metaphorical meanings of a light bulb.
Second photo: This is the sketch of the final idea we went with. At first we thought about using a plastic tub but e quickly decided to use a metal tin instead.
Third photo: I sketched this after hearing someone say that this type of light bulb is dying out. This kind of reflect s coffin for the light bulb with the silk lining.
Fourth photo: This is one of our preliminary sketches of an idea for light bulb packaging. We didn’t go with this one because it would be hard to produce in two days.
Improvised Drawing Tools Photos
First photo: This shows Sarah, me and Madison using four dowel rods, four rubber bands and a Sharpie to draw a perfect rectangle.
Second photo: This shows the tool that Madison and I created to draw jagged lines. The movement of our arms mirrors that of using a saw.
Third photo: This shows me using a tool that we improvised to let us write our name on the opposite side of the table. We used a Sharpie, dowel rod and rubber band.

Improvised Drawing Tools Exercise Reflection
This exercise really helped me expand my thinking and my creativity and was my favorite exercise that we did during this project. It helped me think creatively and also analyze different situations and the solutions to those situations. This practice of thinking creatively and analytically will definitely help when I move into the future and my career because there are always going to be situations where I have some limitations on what I can do and I will be forced to think outside of the box. This exercise also taught me that normal dowel rods, rubber bands and pens can be much more than just dowel rods, rubber bands and pens. By combining the dowel rods and rubber bands they joined to form a useful tool that helped me and my group complete this daily project. Also, by working in a group, I learned how to talk through ideas and how to quickly brainstorm by just trying different things out. Sometimes, drawing a concept map and writing down a word list just is not the same as using trial and error to discern solutions to certain problems. Now, concept maps and word lists have their place in some situations and they definitely have positive attributes, but just diving into the problem and trying lots of different things out definitely has its place too.
Tools play a huge role in everyday human lives. For example, without the wheel, cars would have never been able to exist as we know them today. Usually tools are pushed off to the background and taken for granted, but when a tool is taken away, everything changes. Tools have forged the society that humans live in today and without them, civilization would be no where near the advanced level it is today.
Final Wire Model
First photo: This is a planner support made of wire. The construction of it was quite basic but there are some troubles I encountered with the wire.
Second photo: What frustrated me the most was the fact that the wire I was using to make this support would never be straight or exactly the way I wanted it to be.
