Next chapter of Show me the Dance to your Heart is still not ready (super freaking sorry) but here's another small little snippet as an apology.
The five steps from the pavement to his front door felt like a marathon. Once he was within those four walls, he’d be alone with nothing but his thoughts. Thoughts that made him seek out excessive drinking, smoking and random hook-ups with strangers. Walls that made him feel trapped and lonely, even if he wouldn’t admit it.
But luckily, he had two beings in those walls that kept the darkness at bay. Barking and paws skidding on wooden floors met him the moment he opened the door. First he was jumped on by a large mound of golden fur and a long pink tongue licking and slurping all over his face. Then a pointy nose prodding at his hands and pockets, seeking out any treats and secrets Goro had on his person.
He let out a laugh he wouldn’t dare let a human hear escape from his lips. “Robin, stop it. Down. Robin, down!”
The Golden Retriever let out a huff and a whine, but did as his master ordered. Once all four paws were back on the ground, Goro kneeled and held out both hands. Robin slobbered over his right hand, and Loki sniffed at his left. The Doberman was a little more cautious than his Retriever ‘brother’, but once Goro passed the sniff test, Loki was all over him. Tail wagging and nose and tongue all up in his face.
“My silly boys,” Goro said softly, running his fingers through Robin's long fur and scratching Loki behind the ear, just where he liked it.
