This is the most personal portrait I've ever taken and to be honest I wish I owned a DSLR to give this shot any justice but an iPhone will do. This is my mother, Emmy Stuckel. The last few years haven't been kind to her. It's been nothing but loss and the constant mantra of doing what must be done. At first I debated on posting something so deeply intimate, almost intrusive, on this site. Asking her to sit still for even 10 seconds made her feel overwhelmed with emotion. But I've come to the conclusion that this is the best way I can honor and bear witness to an incredible carrier of love. This is my mother, a woman who is a nurse regardless of retirement. A woman that decided that a baby from another country was worth being loved enough to be called son. Today a record that I've seen my friends pour their hearts and souls into is able to be shared with the world finally. When I first met @churchtonguein they were called Conquerors and stayed at my house in the dead of winter. They were on the start of a two month tour in a van with no heat and I had to help shovel out their vehicle from an alley in order for them to get back on the road. Over two years later most of them now live with me and I can proudly call them my brothers. I've never seen a band go through so much pain and adversity and come out the other side with more resolve and a greater belief in love and honesty. I'm honored to know such people. Tour is over but the work never stops. A brother told me that our voices are weapons, that they shake the earth when we let the words escape. I've staked my life and my faith on that belief. A voice and conviction is something that can't be taken away without violence. So sharpen your tongue and go violently into eternity. Art is fertile ground for change so create until you feel like a stone that has had its moisture pressed from its being. In a world of black and white speak colorful subtleties so people know love.

Day off today headed to Oneonta, NY. For the last few months I've struggled once again with anxiety and panic attacks for the first time in years. Couple that with waves of crippling self-doubt with my music and the constant fear that all I have made will never be heard and the stories I tell will fall on deaf ears has been perpetual uphill battle for me. It makes me want to give up many days and wonder if having no money and working a nine dollar an hour job so I can make art is really worth it. Being on the road with some of my best friends and witness them pour themselves out on stage every night makes me feel less alone. Their vulnerability reminds me that when I'm vulnerable on stage it's strength and words can truly shake the earth. Their constant encouragement reminds me why what I create and perform isn't for naught. That God has given me a lot and a gift to nurture and grow. The soil I till isn't toil but for a season I cannot see or imagine. @churchtonguein and @ghostkeyband are my family and have helped me in ways they'll probably never fully understand. "We said we'd change the world and we will."

Sorry for the late reply. The gospel to me is explaining the life and death of Jesus Christ who brought us back to our creator. To allow us to once again be in tune with the rest of the created universe. We are a broken and imperfect people that cry for wholeness that the death of Jesus satisfies. We only need to believe that Jesus took our debt of death and we will be seen as whole and clean in the eyes of God. The Gospel to me is the story of how much the God of all creation loves us. Enough to give His son to satisfy a penalty we deserve.
