Stupid Twitter
Me: Ha. That's planning ahead. I have a tweet lined up and ready to go for next year APRIL.
Him: ...
Me: I take Twitter seriously.
Him: But what if they've changed it by then and you can only send emoji messages?
Me: *thunderface*
I fixed that for you
My husband forwarded me an email from MSC Cruises this morning, headed “Girls’ getaway at sea”. His comment was “I’d hate to have to captain a ship full of 14-year-olds!”, which I appreciated immensely. Then I read the press release and got irritated. So, inspired by the glorious hilarity and social commentary that is the manwhohasitall Tumblr (and accompanying Twitter account – http://twitter.com/manwhohasitall), I changed things up a bit. Boys, enjoy your getaway!
[NOTE: The only grammar I’ve fixed is their horrid misuse of apostrophes pretty much throughout the press release. Beyond that, all I’ve changed is the gender-related words.]

BOYS’ GETAWAY AT SEA
ALL FUN, NO STRESS, AND NO GIRLS – CRUISING IS A GREAT OPTION FOR A UNIQUE AND UNFORGETTALE BOYS’ WEEKEND GETAWAY.
Johannesburg, 30 September 2015: Why not take your “boys’ night out” to the next level, and arrange a boys’ weekend getaway on-board the MSC Sinfonia instead? Says Allan Foggitt, Marketing and Sales Director for MSC Cruises: “Holidays to luxurious and exotic destinations are fast replacing the old fashioned and staid getaway for male group travel – and nowhere is as nothing is as much fun or more exotic than the newly refurbished MSC Sinfonia. It ticks all the boxes, offering exotic destinations, supreme pampering, lots of entertainment, and the ability to just sit back and relax while everything is taken care of for you.”
He says that the best destinations for an all-guy getaway allow men to put aside their worries about work, kids and relationships, and to just relax and unwind in the company of their best boyfriends: “Cruises are a great option for an all-guy getaway – they are safe, offer plenty to do and incredible dining, entertainment and wellness options. What’s more, is that you can choose to cruise to exotic destinations, for some added on-shore adventure, without all the hassle. Local destinations include various ports of call along the South African coastline, as well as in Mauritius, Reunion and Namibia.”
Allan explains that what really sets a cruise apart from other weekend getaways is that it offers a wide range of activities, entertainment and pastimes that caters to all age groups and all personality types: “With all the on-board entertainment and activities available, you will never be at a loss when it comes to choosing how to spend your days. You can make your cruise as relaxing or action-packed as you want it to be. MSC Cruises offer the best of both daytime and nighttime excitement. Fill your days with sightseeing, water sports, cultural activities, spa treatments or simply lounge by the pool and relax. At night, you can enjoy casinos, theatre shows, live music, dancing or just spend a quiet evening gazing at the stars. There is something for everybody, allowing you to truly customise your time spent on-board to what appeals to you and your boyfriends.”
A “boys’ cruise getaway” can be organised to cater for a number of different reasons – here are some ideas:
The bachelor party: If you are looking to arrange a bachelor party that is more sophisticated than the typical drunken swagger around a restaurant or nightclub, then why not consider a weekend cruise?
A dads’ retreat: Being a dad is one of the most fulfilling things in the world; however it can also be one of the most challenging. Why not organise a weekend cruise with your closest boyfriends and claim some valuable “me time” to recharge your batteries?
Father-and-son getaway: If you are looking for a special gift for your dad, or you just want to spend some time and catch-up with him – a weekend cruise could be the answer. It also makes an ideal Father’s Day present!
A break without the girls: Sometimes, all you need is some time to get away from it all and indulge in some guys-only activities. A weekend cruise is the ideal way to achieve this.

There is so much to love about this flyer. There is so much to love about small-town America.
The aftermath of the Anne Lamott keynote, as observed in my office. Damp, mascara-stained tissues as far as the eye can see, and two pages of potentially life-changing notes. #ConfabMN

I feel like if I had this figurine on my desk I would be a lot more driven to succeed. #freecomicbookday
Apparently this is a band called the Burning Lips or something like that. They're pretty good. I hope they make it big someday. (I probably don't deserve all the good things that happen to me.) (at Austin City Limits)
Rainn Wilson totally just locked eyes with me for a few seconds through the restaurant window. No big deal. #sxsw (at Iron Cactus)

All dogs are puppy. It’s a simple scientific fact.

True fact.

That's me to every single animal, regardless of species. Sometimes I'll specify, like, "Ooh, look at the little cat puppy!" or "Hello, birdy puppies!" or "Whoozh a good widdle dog puppy?"

And you definitely need the volume to be on.
I would swap our president for this guy in a heartbeat.

ACHTUNG! Dieting Post
I’ve lost seven pounds in the last two and a half weeks since wearing a Fitbit Flex and tracking my calories. I haven’t done very much for real exercise yet. I’ve made a point to be more active and not eat too damn much and eat too damn many salads, but that’s it other than very recently starting Tai Cheng through Beachbody.
This concludes the dieting post.
Oh, and my two eldest kids are really into yoga now. What is happening?
Same! Although mine is a Fitbit One, and I've lost about 6 pounds. And I don't know what Tai Cheng is. I go to Pilates once or twice a week.
Sometimes at big political demonstrations – against the war in Iraq in early 2003, for example – the thousands of placards with handwritten statements, jokes, and facts, for all their brevity, constitute a cumulative critique that covers a lot of angles. Social media can do the same, building arguments comment by comment, challenging, testing, reinforcing and circulating the longer arguments in blogs, essays and reports. It’s like a barn-building for ideas: innumerable people bring their experiences, insights, analysis, new terms and frameworks. These then become part of the fabric of everyday life, and when that happens, the world has changed. Then, down the road, what was once a radical idea becomes so woven into everyday life that people imagine that it is self-evident and what everyone always knew. But it’s not; it’s the result of a struggle – of ideas and voices, not of violence.

LEGO advent calendar day 2: The fluffy problem in the previous photo left to do more important things than terrorising a tiny postman, so you can now see the POSTBOX! (Turns out the postman is horribly lost on the other side of town, btw. Oh well, no Christmas cards for you.)
There is some vital information missing here.
I received this in a very unsatisfying email from Goodreads today:
"When director Alfred Hitchcock (born August 13, 1899) was five, his father dispatched him to the local police station with a note. The officer read it and locked young Hitchcock in a jail cell for five minutes, a move that bred his distrust of authority."
And now I am left with a burning question.
WHAT THE HELL DID THE NOTE SAY?
