It was quickly becoming clear that Finn knew just as much as Poe did, which was nothing. At least who ever had placed them in this had left his trusty blaster in its holster. Since he’d been back on his feet, he’d kept his hand close to his hip, occasionally letting his fingers dust the grip of it. It reminded him he wasn’t totally defenseless.
“Okay, so is there a way out or-” There wasn’t the chance to finish the thought, not when the blinking light of an antennae caught his eye. It flit out of sight, behind a tree, the branches rustling. The shadows on the ground didn’t move even as the leaves shuddered, and everything felt just a little more off for it.
And then abruptly a droid appeared, some unrecognizable and antique thing, probably an astromech but Poe couldn’t be sure. It chittered and weaved through the undergrowth, something managing not to get tangled in all that green.
There was a half beat where he considered asking Finn if they were supposed to follow it, but in a headstrong moment he decided he didn’t want to wait for an answer. If he wasn’t supposed to, Finn would let him know. With that, and his blaster in hand, Poe broke into run.
He felt the horizon tip on its side before falling back into place, and he had a feeling the motion had more to do with his head than the emulation itself. Still, nothing to do but to keep moving and get them both out of this mess.
they would wander now, no clue as to what was being asked of them and what the situation posed to them would be.
all of this, the sudden droid, the way poe had stopped altogether in his question, it was a bit unnerving to him. maybe it was the fact that everything finn had ever done was mainly for the first order, that he wasn’t used to working alongside someone for once and not trying to see who could finish the mission before the others. for once, it wasn’t a competition as they had always made it out to be. teamwork, even if it had been valued in the first order, was still below the idea of someone proving themselves to be the best of the best.
his focus remained on the droid and suddenly on poe just taking off into the green, taking off into an unknown that finn wasn’t even cautious of. ❝ poe? poe! ❞ feet move in an attempt to keep up, finding himself just as lost in this mess now as he had been before poe had taken off. instead, now it was more of trying to find himself in the right direction, to make his way to the man he called a partner. ❝ poe, where are you? ❞
