PICK UP YOUR TEARS AND RUN // Mackenzie & ???
Monday August 28th 10:37pm. [Location redacted].
The worst part of the research process? Discovering something you werenât planning on finding. Itâs unwanted but still it grabs you by the wrist and drags you on a detour, away from all your plans and expectations. Thereâs no rest and no escape. You either see it to the end or you let it haunt you forever. Of course Mackenzie had chosen the former option.
kennedy-monroe:
âAct like you belong.â Kennedy said as if it was obvious. âCome on.â She said. She walked over to the door and knocked on it with one of her hands.
âUm, no oneâs back there. At least I donât think so,â Mackenzie said, staring cautiously at the door. If someone was going to jump out at her, she wanted to be prepared. âBut maybe theyâll let us sneak in through the lounge if we can blend in with the dancers...â She was already walking before her sentence was finished. Time was really of the essence.
thegrahamwilliams:
Graham laughed. âWell, if it makes you feel better, I wonât get anything with meat in it.â He said. âAt least not around you.â He added. He had been around enough vegans to know that the majority of them got offended when he ate meat. Granted, he had never really cared for their opinion, but MacKenzie was different.
Mackenzie shook her head insistingly, âNo, itâs fine. I wonât bitch at you for eating meat if you donât bitch at me for avoiding that.â She really didnât want to be that person, just like she didnât want another lecture about how she would die of malnutrition. âIâll just quietly sit here and judge you from my righteous corner. Deal?â

Aleja smiled. âYouâre pretty amazing.â He let her know. âUh, hopefully next time we see each other, I wonât trip over my feet.â He laughed. âGood conversation starter though.â
Mackenzie shrugged at his compliment, not really sure how to respond to it. She knew well enough that she wasnât amazing in any real way. Instead of answering, she happily accepted the change of topic, âItâs definitely my turn to trip next time, so donât worry, Iâve got that whole thing covered.â
zisforzara:
âItâs okay, you at least had the decency to help me with my stuff, unlike some other people that havenât been so niceâ She rolled her eyes, remembering a particularly nasty group of teenagers. âOh god, could you? I think if I donât put something cool on my skin soon I might just burst into flames myselfâ
âI got you, girl.â Mackenzie said with a bright smile. This might be the perfect way to actually make up for her stupid comments. She still felt incredibly bad. âYou wanna head up to my room? I have iced tea and peanut butter chocolate chip cookies - I mean, cookies wonât really cool you down, but we all know that theyâre the cure for everything.â
kennedy-monroe:
Kennedy listened to the girl speak and nodded. She already had a plan forming in her head. âOkay, thatâs easy.â She said as if she had done it before. She wasnât about to admit that she had experience getting into places she shouldnât be or wasnât allowed.
âReally?â Mackenzie perked up slightly, instantly curious about the girlâs willingness and ability to help her. Though she knew better than to ask questions. Usually it was better to observe the truth rather than ask about it. âSo whatâs the big plan?â
thegrahamwilliams:
Graham smiled as she spoke. He didnât know what it was about this girl, but she made it easy to open up to and talk to. âWell, I can promise you that I donât get offended easily.â He assured and looked at the menu. âI was thinking of the steak.â He said. âWhat about you?â He asked.
Luckily for Graham, Mackenzie was good enough at keeping her mouth shut on dates that she didnât say anything when he mentioned meat - though she was of course secretly judging him. She tried her best not to be a hater, but well, meat was still murder. âI was planning on getting the orecchiette... thatâs one of the few things Iâm willing to eat.â Okay, maybe she had to mention it. âFull disclosure: Iâm one of those awful Vegans. If you wanna run now, I wonât be that mad.â
omgalejamartinez:
Aleja smiled. âSo, if I got the okay, for whatever location, would you help me?â He asked. âYou seem like youâre a good person to spread news. Not like a gossip or anything, but like someone who has good word of mouth. Am I making sense?â
She laughed as he awkwardly explained himself, âI know what you mean. And Iâm taking all of that as a compliment. I would definitely do my part to help set it up, as much as I can without making the casino people hate me.â

ââŚ.Please donât laughâ Zara grimaced as she sat down, skin with every movement. âI fell asleep reading in the sun and yes, I know I look like a lobster. CVS doesnât have any after sun so I think I might be dyingâ
âI already inappropriately laughed at you once this week, so youâre off the hook,â Mackenzie joked, though a pained expression quickly took over her face. âI have some after sun in my room, and Iâm happy to share it. Iâve been there too many times, and us pale people need to look out for each other.â
kennedy-monroe:
âWell heâs not very nice if heâs standing you up.â Kennedy pointed out. âIâll help you. What do you need help with?â
âOh no, Franco is nice. I feel like somethingâs keeping him, I just donât know what it is,â she said, pursing her lips slightly as she weighed the situation. Strictly speaking she wasnât supposed to talk about this whole thing - at least nok before the details were settled. But she could use some help. âWell, um, I need to get backstage. Iâm supposed to grab some dresses and take them to the drycleaner,â she began explaining, hoping she didnât sound too nervous. She was so scared of messing up. âFranco was supposed to let me in, and I need to do this today before 5 pm.â
thegrahamwilliams:
âI try my best to be a true friend.â He let her know. âMaybe we were just meant to meet today?â He suggested. âYou in one of your best dresses and me being a klutz.â He smiled. âI think you just chose to mock the right person, some people are a bit sensitive around here.â
âOh yeah, destiny, for sure,â she said with a giggle. She didnât believe in any of that, but at least it was a nice thought. âAnd yeah, Iâve noticed. Iâve already managed to get myself in trouble with a few people. I really need to learn to keep my mouth shut. Itâs gonna be the death of me someday,â she said, shaking her head at her own stupidity. Someday sheâd get the hang of the whole âsocial skillsâ thing. âAnyway, what are you having?â
omgalejamartinez:
âIt is her.â Aleja sighed. âIf she likes it, she just might claim the idea as her own.â He rolled his eyes and looked at MacKenzie. âWell, if anything, I could try to talk to the Landlord and see if heâd be okay with me playing the gig on the roof, or I could just do an impromptu gig at the beach.â
âI guess thatâs almost the best you can hope for? At least that way youâd get to do it.â She shrugged, not really sure if she even believed that herself. She knew first hand how shitty it felt when someone took credit for your hard work. âOh, a rooftop party would be great! Iâd love to see the view from the top of The Rag.â

adamxknight:
âFuck!â Adam yelled when she jumped out at him and his heart beat hard in his chest as he assessed that he was not under attack. He bent and squinted at the photo. âI donât think so. Who is he?â
âOh shit, itâs you.â Mackenzie let out a shrill laugh when she recognized the man, âI really need to stop ruining your days, donât I?â She had a hard time standing still, almost twitching as he looked at the picture on her phone, âHeâs a business contact. We were supposed to meet here about some... well, business. Forty minutes ago. But I canât reach him, so Iâm trying my luck now. I figure someone has to have seen him around.â
yuri-lupino:
Yuri studied the girl. âPerhaps he is running late, and he canât hear his phone.â He didnât why she needed to get into this backroom, or why it was important. He didnât even know what she wanted him to do.
âWhy do you want to go into the backroom? Better question, why not go through the front?â Surely, if she really needed to get in there was someone on the other side that would allow her entry.Â
âHe might be, I donât know...â she said with a frown. Even though she knew that he presented a very plausible scenario, she still couldnât shake the worry that pooled in her stomach. Franco was nothing if not punctual, and his absence was deeply concerning to her. Though of course she wasnât going to spill all of her beans to a stranger right in the middle of the sidewalk.
Mackenzie weighed her words carefully before answering his questions, âWell, itâs... I have an appointment out back, but... itâs not really a place you can just walk into from the street. Heâs my key in, and I canât find him.â She realized how awfully shady it all sounded, which, to be fair, it kind of was. But even if that was the case, she figured she should at least try to lie about it. âItâs not... I have an audition, kind of. For the lounge, they like to keep that one the low, and you need to be invited.â Great story, if only she could lie convincingly...
