GENOSHA IS THE DREAM , an island built by mutants as a homeland. a place of acceptance in a world where their existence was conditional , at best. he isn’t like charles , doesn’t believe they should pander and perform in order to be allowed the right to life. and maybe it’s a foolish dream , to create a home from man’s garbage. to grow and create and thrive. when all max has ever known are nightmares , some days it feels like he’s just waiting for doom.

so when jean arrives , carrying around the shadows of some unknown horrors , his instinct to protect her and this new mutant homeland are set at odds. genosha is for jean , for the mutants left behind ( failed ). but her presence threatens genosha , threatens a peace built on already rickety foundation. he doesn’t mean to cast her aside , to be yet another broken promise , but that’s exactly what he becomes.

“what i did was unforgivable. they have a right to want me dead for it, father, “ nobody knew how many mutants were depowered. they only knew how many still stood after wanda had caused their destruction. she had done that when her mind had all but snapped under stress and budding insanity. but? that didn’t matter. it still happened. “ if it were anyone else, you would agree. “ she points out softly. though she wasn’t throwing herself down at their mercy, the notion still lay within her she should be dead. 

“ perhaps. ” for he has never been one to sprinkle sugar among the rough , why start now ? his own mutantion now nothing more than a feable spark of what it once had been. but she is his daughter. a chunk of his heart too important to live without. he is a man of a code , stricter than most  , but not unmoldable. every metal has its melting point. and she is his. “ but you are not everyone else. ” hands rough from a lifetime of violence reach up , enveloping her cheeks in his palms. “ you are my child. and i forgive you. ” he did not look away , refused to divert his iron gaze. “ if they truly want you dead , they’ll have to go through me first. ”
