I am not very happy today
Which is okay.
Because it is actually amazing because of how much George Watsky cheers me up. Listening to anything as long as he is saying it.

Hm. I was in my home on the east side of town tonight eating broccoli and shortbread and watching Fargo. I have witnesses :)
For whoever thinks TED talks is just full of theoretical, non-practical ideas. #CrazySocialists
Realization
This lack of sleep has a seriously direct correlation with a lack of original thought.
I don't feel inspired lately which reminds me of a zefrank video in which he talks about how unfortunate is that people wait to be inspired to do anything. As if that is the only version of us we trust to do really cool stuff.
Done with waiting. Let's do some really cool stuff. But first we have to clean the kitchen.

A real way to decrease world suck
HEY NERDFIGHTERS.
HOW DOES $10 000 ADDED TO THE FOUNDATION TO THE FOUNDATION TO INCREASE WORLDSUCK SOUND? Cancer sucks.
A really cool dude/internet entrepreneur is dying...and we can help! He needs a bone marrow transplant but South Asians are SEVERELY underepresented in the donor pool! Please check out Amit Gupta Needs You and see what you can do. If you're ANYONE, find/organize a swab drive. If you're CANADIAN, definitely find/organize a swab drive. If you're a MINORITY CANADIAN, definitely double dog dare ya to find/organize a swab drive. Oh...one more thing. http://bit.ly/npSwe0 Seth Godin will be sending the first confirmed match to Amit Gupta a $10 000 cheque to either them or the charity of their choice. This is the definition of fighting world suck. PLEASE check out the page and ask how you can help or get involved :)
PLEASE @Reply John or Hank and SPREAD the word on social media sites using either/bother of the above links. If John or Hank mentions this...I can't even imagine the outpour :)
When you have a tendency to acquire friends who are deeply unhappy...
...you learn pretty quickly that it is possible to listen more eloquently than speech.
Being a Canadian Global Development University Student...
...can really be conflicting sometimes.
It is the running joke of DEVS students (and sometimes it really feels true) that our department is out to make us feel like racists. Every type of anti-racism we perform is somehow racist. Maybe it's practicing colour-blindness, maybe it's affirmative action or maybe it's acknowledging "race" at the wrong time and not acknowledging it when we should. We're all big, fat, ugly racists.
This is kinda true. That my department has (so far...I'm only in my first semester of my second year) made me feel that no matter what I do, I cannot contribute to anti-racism. I read an anti-racist critique and suddenly everything I thought I was doing right was just reinforcing racism.
If you try to help someone/a group because of their race you're reinforcing socially-constructed power roles.
If you treat everyone exactly the same and do not acknowledge race at all, you are colour-blind...and therefor bind to all the plights that each race went through.
And these lose/lose situations just continue. And I don't even disagree with these things...they're true. But sometimes it just leaves me a little hopeless.
I feel like this happens for 2 reasons (neither of which are bad):
1) Using both qualitative and quantitative research
2) Teaching intersectionality
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Not only can I not use my degree of Global Development, but my DEPARTMENT is telling me I cannot use my degree hahahahah
I remember sooo vividly when my dad surprised me after being in Bosnia for 8 months. Not a lot of things that will make me cry, but after living on a military base for 8 years of my life and having my parents go overseas several times...this had me bawling.
You've just got to find something you love to do, and then do it for the rest of your life. For me, it's going to Rushmore.
Rushmore

Things I'll Accomplish in the Next Week
To be accomplished by Monday, November 14th 2011.
1. Go to the quarry by my house. I've lived here for over a year and everytime I drive by it I want to go look at it. I haven't.
2. Go to a supplementary lecture that has nothing to do with any of my classes. There's two this week!
3. Go to all my Spanish classes.
4. Ask a friend for coffee.
5. Give myself a facial mask.
my friend's son Logan....top left. #thingsicannoteven
