Does anyone feel kinda bad for Sherlock and Mycroft's parents? Especially their mother?
They're exceedingly ordinary people, nice, sweet. Enjoying their retirement.
They love their weird sons very much, and Mrs. Holmes was even a (presumably) very smart mathematician who wrote a book... and gave all of it up to have children who don't even like her.
Now, I know that what we see in the show is post Eurus and, considering Mycroft feeling personally responsible for a lot of what happened to Sherlock, must indicate that he wasn't happy at all with how they handled her and that probably created a lot of resentment. I understand that for sure, especially from Mycroft. It's very hard to be the oldest child in a family that holds a great deal of trauma and grief.
It's just sad to see Mrs. Holmes cook for her boys and love them and they're like 🙄😒 ugh mom. What an idiot.

Honestly I think the parents just mellowed out with age and we saw their true colours during S4. I mean if Mycroft learned 'sentiment is a disadvantage', he must've learned it from somewhere and apparently spoken enough that it affects Sherlock too and how they both make decisions (which are mostly logical).
I think the parents pushed Mycroft for perfection and stoicism because he was 'too sentimental' for a boy. They had Eurus but she practically had no emotion that they just decided to let Mycroft handle her (who was still a kid). Sherlock? Mycroft had already been parentified so he naturally took over. Even Sherlock admits Mycroft was his main caregiver for his childhood so parents weren't present.
The reason the parents seem to dote on Sherlock is just... Them caring for a stranger. Like come on, watching the scene felt they were obligated to rather than Sherlock being their son when he returned from hospital. No mention of them even ASKING where Sherlock was during his 2 year hiatus.
ACD mycroft and S&Co mycroft are not polar opposites but simply on different parts of the Guy Who Is Very Fond Of Himself spectrum and I personally am delighted at the flavour of irritating they went with for S&Co mycroft

Mycroft being John’s bi awakening was not on my bingo card.
not to immediately just talk more about mycroft and sherlock but

“I like your friends.”
there’s something about the emphasis mycroft puts on that sentence, it’s not “i like your friends” as though he’s surprised sherlock has them or that he’s implying that those friends must find sherlock similarly exhausting because, well, he’s Sherlock Holmes, why wouldn’t they?
it’s “i like your friends,” it’s reassurance, in an awkward, roundabout older sibling way - suave, self-assured mycroft being genuine, within the parameters of the relationship they have now - it’s “your friends clearly like what they see in you” and “they’re different to us, and perhaps that’s good” and “just because something’s been broken here it’s not something inherently found in the way you’re built that’s broken it”. it’s “i’m glad you have somebody, little one, when we both know it hasn’t been (and can’t be) me.”
i’m overthinking mycroft in a really major way but as an older sibling……………. this exchange was Huge

Being in the Sherlock Holmes fandom is so funny to me. In other fandoms I see people arguing about characters skintone, hair style/colour, age, race, ect. Meanwhile, there are so many Sherlock Holmes adaptions and reimaginings out there where I can scroll and see Holmes as an asian woman, Holmes as a magical girl, Holmes as a Russian, Holmes as a fucking mouse/dog and Holmes as an anime character and just be like: yep... that's good.
I'm not falling for the "Sherlock and Mycroft hate each other" propaganda that some adaptations are trying to force on me and I am definitely not falling for the "Mycroft is a bad brother" propaganda
Manifesting them as healthy siblings and especially Mycroft as a supportive brother, ESPECIALLY in the topic of neurodivergency and understanding that being different doesn't mean being worse (ik a lot of people would put queerness here instead and tbh why not, I just personally think more about his neurodivergency than his queerness but both are important)
