I'm already thinking of the ads I'd make to get people taking the high speed pacific northwest rail corridor. I'm thinking of producing the first ever government sponsored lesbian porno and using the less explicit bits of it as ads. a scene of one girl convincing another to take the train instead of her pickup 'cause of the privacy of the roomettes. a discussion about how they're just going from seattle to portland, so they only have 90 minutes to get each other off due to the new high-speed line, little things like that. end every ad with the tagline "lesbians ride the train. why don't you?"

Like swiss trains, many of my rural low-speed services use a request button both on board and at the station, so the train doesn't have to stop at the very small platform-only stops if no one needs to get on or off. These are usually for towns of less then a thousand people, where there may only be a handful of people using the train per day, but whom would still benefit from having a local stop. These stops can be built inexpensively, and don't slow down rail service for busier destinations as it's unlikely a given train will stop at more then half of them in a given run.

I've been looking into adding a line from salem that would connect into the lincon city line, but the problem is existing rail infrastructure. To keep costs to a minimum, I'm trying to use as much existing rail infrastructure as possible, and the smaller the population centers connected by the network the harder it is to justify new construction. Salem is big enough that it marks a stop along the high speed line from eugene to vancouver BC, but there's not much existing rail between salem and the coast, at least not directly. That said, the high speed to newport transfer would be very fast, and i may be able to add a small connection that would link it to lincon city with only one stop. Just trying to figure out the best way to do that.
