“Alright this is very important, I need your most honest opinion on this,” Konrad began, moving to hold the door of the diner open for Fleur before continuing to speak again. “What’s your stance on the oh-so-controversial pineapple on pizza– yay or nay?”

“Take this,” he offered his jacket over to Ophelia as the rain started to pour. “I don’t want you catching a cold or anything,” Konrad added worriedly as he began to look for someplace for them to hide out from the downpour.

“Hey I’ve been meaning to ask this,” Konrad paused, turning around to point to a dog that had been following them for a few blocks. “That’s... yours right? I don’t think I’ve ever been stalked by a stray before so I thought maybe it belonged to you.”

“I know it looks bad, but I promise I’m fine. Look, see, I can move it!” Lily spoke, attempting to move her arm without wincing. 

She decided to keep quiet, hoping he would forget about her comment in a moment. Why couldn’t she control her loose tongue?! “Well, the list is not that long so it’s either the end of pretty much top three.”

“Well you certainly turned that around, huh?” Konrad chuckled. “I guess being the last of three isn’t too bad, but being last is still a bummer.”

“Is it? Sometimes you have to lie for the better of other people.” Charlotte sighed, “I certainly wouldn’t send that message- I get it if you want to tell them the truth but… There has to be a better way for you to write it.” 

“I never said stupid, I just say you had an interesting expression. The shock was palpable.” She said with a laugh before humming. “I have zoned out but usually when in the company of others it means it is because I have something I am really stuck on.”

“I know, but it’s okay if I did,” he assured her with a chuckle. “Hmm, not sure what I could be stuck on but that’s always something to consider,” Konrad replied.

“Wow, okay. Wasn’t expecting that one. Are you sure that’s how you want to tell them?” 

“I do know what you mean, I’m sorry that you had a rough day,” she smiled sympathetically. She had noticed that everyone who worked at the hospital seemed to have extra weight on their shoulders, with good reason. “Did you want to talk about it? Or at least let me give your mind some peace so that you can sleep well later,” she offered.

“ I asked – twice, might I add – that you lend me your menu. Dare I ask what could possibly be so important that you can’t be bothered to be aware of your present surroundings ? ”

“Too late now. I mean, I doubt I would get on the same flow.” She couldn’t help but tease. “Though it was kind of worth it for your expression. Just where was your mind at hm?”

“I guess you’re right. I apologize nonetheless,” Konrad admitted apologetically. “Oh was it? Do I really look so stupid?” he teased with a light chuckle. “Everywhere and nowhere. Have you never zoned out before?”

“I said you have a troubled aura,” Fleur repeated, feeling the negative energy. “Is something worrying you?” she asked, taking a sip from her own coffee. Normally she wouldn’t be quite so nosy, but those rules went out the window once she knew someone.

“You know I would end up losing a hand in the process. If you want me to visit you more often, you should just say so,” she blurted out without thinking, then blushed. “I’ll consider that next time I need a ride. I promise I’ll put you at the very end of my list.”

“What are your suggestions then?” She raised an eyebrow at him, ready to accept the challenge. Ophelia took a step towards him and poked him on the shoulder again. “You’re a terrible tease.”
