Let Me Be Your Inspiration - ★彡 Jeon Jungkook
Summary: You need help writing a sex scene in order to pay rent this month. Your roommate Jungkook offers to help you write it. What follows is a very complicated line between friendship, fiction, and feelings.
"Come on, y/n," he prompted, his voice low but steady, that small, challenging tilt to his head never wavering. "You can't write it if you can't picture it, right?”
"Koo..." she started, her voice sounding small even to her own ears. It was a reflex—the instinct to protect herself, to keep the distance they had maintained for so long.
"Y/n," he interrupted softly, his voice dropping to a point that was intimate but final. He didn't move, but the air between them seemed to vibrate with the weight of his words. "Let me be your inspiration."

Y/n has been staring at the blinking cursor for the past twelve minutes.
The sentence on her screen is still unfinished.
His hands traced her thighs…I
She exhales and deletes the whole line.
“Why is this so hard,” she mutters to herself, scrubbing her hands over her face.
It’s currently one am in the city of New York. The city that never sleeps; y/n is currently the victim of that stereotype. Sitting on the couch in her living room, laptop on the coffee table mere inches from her face, she is surrounded by crumpled notes. Some on the floor, under the table, ON the table, by the lamp that’s currently lighting up the space, and even near the front door.
To which Jungkook almost slips upon entering the apartment, “Oh shit.”
Y/n, hearing him as it's not a huge space, exclaims, “Sorry! I meant to pick that up.”
Keys hit the bowl by the door, followed by the familiar shuffle of shoes and the soft thud of his backpack hitting the floor. She doesn’t look up from the screen when he appears from the doorway a few seconds later. He pauses when he sees her on the couch, surrounded by the crumbled balls of paper, as if they were about to swallow her whole.
Okay, important question,” he says gently, “Should I be concerned about the amount of paper covering our apartment?"
She finally looks up from the bright screen to glance at him.
He looks different from the way he did this afternoon when he’d left for the studio— back when his hair was gelled back, jacket crisp, headphones resting around his neck like he was already halfway into work mode. Now, he’s wearing a dark hoodie instead, sleeves pushed up, hair slightly tousled like he’s run his hands through it one too many times. There’s a faint tiredness in his eyes, softened by the way he’s looking at her, like she’s the last thing he expected to come home to and is somehow the best part of his night.
Ignoring his question, she asks him, “Do you ever get hired to do something you are wildly unqualified for?”
The question catches him off guard.
“I mean, I once had a client ask to add a recording of them farting into a soundtrack if that counts?” He blinks.
“I didn’t expect it to be that gross!”
He laughs under his breath and heads for the kitchen. She hears the fridge open, the clinking of containers, and the microwave beeping a few seconds later. It’s all painfully normal. He comes back with a bowl of reheated leftovers and drops onto the other end of the couch, stretching his legs out to land on hers like he owns the place. Which, unfortunately, he does. Half of it, anyway.
They’ve been roommates for over a year and a half now— long enough that this scene doesn’t feel strange to them at all. Her camped out on the couch with her laptop. Him coming home late from the studio and immediately raiding the fridge. Long enough that they know each other’s habits, each other’s schedules, the unspoken rules of shared space.
Moving out of her parents’ house had felt like freedom. Trying to afford New York on her own was a bit hard in this economy.
So when she’d seen the listing for a decent one-bed in a two-bedroom shared apartment at a price that didn’t break her bank, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
Living with a stranger, especially a guy, wasn't part of the plan she put on her vision board, though. She’d run his name through NY eCourts, stalked his social media, and met him for coffee twice before even agreeing to see the apartment.
And somehow, he’d turned out to be…normal.
Originally from Busan, he’d moved to New York a couple of years after graduating college, chasing his own dreams. At first, a bartender, working late shifts and learning the city the hard way, until he finally landed an assistant role at a record company that turned into a full-time job as a sound engineer and producer.
Now his nights are spent in studios, tweaking mixes, layering tracks, building songs for artists who will probably never know how much care he put into every second of their songs. And sometimes, when he’s not completely drained, he makes his own music too— soft melodies drifting through the thin apartment walls when he thinks she’s asleep.
In fact, she’s heard more than almost anyone. Sometimes, after a short session, he’d come back to their place early in the day to her on the couch, join her, and let her listen to the raw, unreleased tracks he’s produced for major artists. It’s a massive sign of trust, though he’d never admit it.
Instead, he just leaned against the couch with a mock-serious glare, telling her that if a single note of it leaks online, he’ll kick her out of the apartment and feed her to the city rats. She usually just rolls her eyes, feeling a quiet sense of privilege that she’s the one he trusts with his secrets.
He’s even tried to teach her the basics. He sat her down once in front of his MIDI controller—the little square grid of glowing, backlit buttons. He’d patiently explained that it was a 'Launchpad,' showing her how to trigger samples and loop beats. To her, it was just a 'Glow-in-the-Dark Waffle.' Despite Jungkook correcting her a dozen times, she refused to call it anything else.
'It’s a professional-grade MIDI interface,' he’d groan, his head dropping into his hands.
'Right, and I’m a professional waffle-maker,' she’d fire back, already reaching out to tap a sequence. 'Move over, let me play the pretty rainbow squares.'
He’d just sigh, a small, defeated smile tugging at his lips as he watched her play her chaotic rhythms on his expensive gear like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Still, every time she hears one of his songs, she wonders why he isn’t the one being signed instead of just producing everyone else. He has the voice for it. The instinct. The way he can turn silence into something that feels alive.
But Jungkook never talks about that part. And she’s never pushed.
He’s also her first roommate since college, and, unfairly, a really good one.
He’s clean. Quiet. Cooks' actual meals instead of surviving on TV dinners. (His shrimp scampi is to die for.) Easy to talk to without being invasive. The kind of roommate who replaces the toilet paper roll instead of leaving the empty cardboard tube like a maniac. Remembers which lightbulbs are flickering and fixes them before she has to ask, and who somehow knows exactly which detergent doesn't make her skin break out.
It’s the little things—the way he always leaves the last of the milk for her coffee, or how he quietly moves her laundry to the dryer so her clothes don't get that damp, mildewy smell. He’s a constant, steady presence in the background of her life, providing a level of care that’s so seamless she almost forgets it’s there.
Between deadlines and studio nights, shared groceries and quiet movie marathons, they’ve built something easy and steady. Nothing complicated. It was in the way they could sit in the same room for four hours without saying a word, him buried in his headphones and her lost in a document, yet it never felt lonely. It was the communal bowl of popcorn that didn't need an invitation, and the way he’d instinctively turn down the volume on his monitor the second he heard her bedroom door close.
They were two separate orbits that had somehow synced, creating a routine that kept the city's chaos at bay. While the world outside was a constant scramble for time, their apartment was the one place where the clock slowed down. They didn't have to 'perform' for each other; there was no need for the polished versions of themselves they showed to clients or strangers. Here, they’re just two people trying to make creative careers work in a city that doesn’t really wait for anyone.
It still feels a little surreal sometimes, if she thinks about it too hard.
Four years ago, she’d been a junior writer for a magazine company, chasing quotes and rewriting press releases. Told herself it was temporary, that eventually she’d write about things other than what type of curtains you have in your house says about your personality. Two years ago, she’d finally taken the leap into full-time freelancing— focusing on lifestyle pieces, personal essays, and the kinds of stories that actually let her write about people instead of products.
Now her days are a mix of pitching ideas, editing other writers’ work, and taking on the occasional commissioned scene when the budget is right. It’s not glamorous, and it’s definitely not consistent, but it’s hers. She can write from her couch, coffee shops, or her bed with her laptop balanced on her knees and a deadline breathing down her neck.
It’s also why she learned quickly not to turn down opportunities just because they sit a little outside her comfort zone. Freelance life doesn’t really allow for that kind of pickiness. Everyone has bills, and she is no exception.
Which is how she ended up agreeing to write something far more intimate than her usual work. And is why she’s currently hunched over her computer in the middle of the night, on the verge of pulling out her hair.
“Hey,” he says gently, breaking the comfortable silence. “You’ve been out here all night?”
She finally looks up. “Define all night.”
He winces. “That bad, huh?”
He lets out a quiet laugh and decides to sit, leaning against the back of the couch like he’s settling in for the story. “Okay, now I’m officially concerned. You don’t normally stay up this late. That’s my department.”
“Excuse you, I am perfectly capable of staying up past midnight.”
He raises an eyebrow. “You once fell asleep during a movie trailer. It wasn’t even on the movie we were watching!”
“It was a very calming trailer.”
“You own pajamas specifically labeled ‘sleep shirt,’” he justifies. “I’m just saying, this is not part of your norm.”
She sighs, slumping back into the couch. “Deadlines don’t care about my sleep schedule.”
“Clearly.” His gaze drifts to the mess around her. “Neither does your printer, apparently.”
She gestures weakly at the chaos. “I’m brainstorming.”
“Brainstorming? More like creating a crime scene on trees.”
“Ah.” He nods solemnly. “Gone, but not forgotten.” He puts a hand on his heart and looks up to the ceiling, acting like he’s about to deliver a eulogy.
She snorts, then presses her lips together as she’s trying not to smile. “You’re very supportive in your own deeply unhelpful way.”
“That’s what I’m here for.” Then, softer, “What kind of deadline makes you break your early-bird streak?”
She hesitates, eyes flicking to the laptop screen before she looks back at him. “Just… a new client. Different kind of project.”
She hesitates, eyes dropping back to her screen, and the answer tangles in her chest instead of coming out right away.
Because it’s not just different— it’s intimate.
The scene she’s supposed to write is between two best friends who have spent years pretending they don’t see each other more than that. Years of inside jokes and shared summers and knowing exactly how the other takes their coffee. And now they’re alone in his bedroom at his family’s summer house, windows open to the sound of the lake outside, everything suddenly too quiet for how loudly they can hear each other’s heartbeat.
It’s supposed to be the moment where they finally stop lying to themselves.
Hands shaking. Heart in their throat. That terrifying, electric realization that if they cross this line, nothing will ever be the same— but also that they don’t want it to stay the same anymore.
And that’s the part she doesn’t know how to write.
Because she’s been out of practice in this department for a while now. Years, technically. A handful of casual dates that went nowhere, the occasional one-night stands that ended with awkward goodbyes and no follow-up texts. Moments that were more about convenience than finding a connection.
She hasn’t had that kind of slow, intimate moment since college. Hasn’t had a love that grew quietly in the background before it was suddenly demanded to be seen.
How do you write about two people in love, crossing an emotional and physical line when you’ve never really let yourself get close enough to know what that feels like?
“It’s….about two best friends,” she admits quietly. “Who realizes they’re in love. And everything changes in one night.”
“What happens in that one night?”
“They have sex, and I have to write about it.”
“Oh,” he says, flabbergasted at her bluntness. “Yeah. That’s…not easy.”
“Yeah, you’re telling me.”
“Why doesn’t the author write the scene then? Why does she have you doing it?”
Honestly that was a great question and the answer was simple,
“She wants a young, ‘fresh’ mind to write it and when she saw my profile she thought I was ‘perfect’ for this.” She exhales.
The author was in her sixties writing about two college kids falling in love, not exactly sure why writing a sex scene would be any different from other scenes but the pay had been more than enough to cover rent. It was enough to not have her ask questions and made her tell herself she’d figure it out. Now she’s not so sure that sounded as convincing at one in the morning with a blinking cursor and a graveyard of failed sentences around her feet.
Still, she can’t afford to back out. Not now. Not when she’s finally starting to feel like she’s standing on her own two feet.
Jungkook shifts beside her, brows pulling together slightly.
“Okay fair…but wait,” he says, sounding genuinely confused now. “Out of your scope, how? You make it sound like you’ve never written about anything remotely romantic before.”
She blinks. “That’s not what I—”
“I mean,” he continues, carefully, “you’ve had… experience. You’ve told me about your dates. The good ones. The bad ones. The really bad ones.”
Her lips twitch despite herself. “Wow. Thank you for reminding me of my greatest hits.”
He huffs a laugh. “I’m just saying, this isn’t exactly brand new territory for you.”
And he’s not wrong. He’s been there for the aftermath of bad dates. The rants on the couch, the sarcastic play-by-plays of men who talked a big game and delivered absolutely nothing of emotional value. The mutual roasting sessions where they’d laugh more about the guy being a walking red flag than anything that actually happened in the backseat of their car.
And every time, he’s told her, ‘You’ll find someone better.’ Better in bed, sure, but more importantly, better as a person.
She always laughed that off. Took it as friendly encouragement.
But he’d meant it. Every time.
Someone who would actually stay for the good and the bad. Someone who would give their shoulder for her to lean on when she needed it the most. Someone to be permanent rather than just another cautionary tale. He was sick of the 'walking red flags'; the guys who didn't realize that loving her was in the small moments.
She deserved someone who would have her coffee waiting exactly how she liked it before she even stumbled out of bed, just so she’d have one less thing to think about. Someone who understood that opening a door wasn't just a first-date performance, but something you did every time; at the grocery store, at the gym, or just coming home, simply because she was worth the gesture. He wanted her to find someone who didn't see her as a 'fun time' or a temporary distraction, but as a woman who deserved a constant, effortless kind of care that these other idiots couldn't even fathom.
He just never said that out loud to her.
He clears his throat. “So yeah. I guess I’m just confused why this feels so impossible for you.”
She exhales slowly, gaze dropping to her hands.
“Because this isn’t about bad dates or one-night stands,” she says. “It’s about two people who’ve known each other for years. Who already know all the annoyingly cute little things about each other. Who’ve been there for each other through everything.”
His expression stills, listening now.
“They’re best friends,” she continues quietly. “They’ve built this whole life of inside jokes and shared memories and… safety. And now they’ve just realized they’re in love with each other, and they’re about to cross a line they can’t uncross.”
Her voice drops even softer.
“It’s not just about wanting each other. It’s about risking everything they already have.”
Y/N swallows, then clears her throat a little too loudly.
“Oh— and, um,” she adds quickly, words tumbling out like she’s afraid of the silence, “it happens to take place in his childhood bedroom. At his rich family’s summer lake house that they’ve been going to for years.”
Jungkook blinks. Once. Then again.
“…Thank you for clarifying that,” he says, letting out a soft, breathy laugh.
She lifts one shoulder in a half-shrug. “Gotta make sure you know the setting, you know. Very important to…set the mood.”
“Of course,” he says, smiling now. “Wouldn’t want to overlook the emotional significance of the expensive lakefront property.”
She snorts, the tension easing just enough for her to breathe again.
“Exactly. Very crucial storytelling detail.”
He watches her for a second longer, amusement still in his eyes, but something gentler underneath it.
Then he tilts his head, voice quieter again.
"So," he begins, shifting his weight so that he’s sitting up facing her, “Is it the technical stuff? The logistics of the... lake house activities?"
She groans, dropping her head back against the couch. "No, the logistics I can research. It’s the vibe, Jungkook. The feeling." She gestures vaguely at the screen, her frustration bubbling back up. "I’m supposed to write about the shift. That moment when it stops being just 'them’ and becomes... everything. It’s supposed to be sex that’s full of love. Intimacy that actually means something."
She turns to look at him, a self-deprecating quirk to her lips. "And I mean, you’ve been the one on the couch for my post-date reports. All the guys I’ve been with have been jerks, or boring, or just... passing through. I don’t know what that feels like. How am I supposed to describe a soul-shaking, world-ending connection when my most recent romantic highlight was a guy who spent forty minutes talking about his crypto portfolio?"
Jungkook doesn't laugh this time. He just watches her, his thumb tracing the seam of his hoodie. The silence stretches, no longer just quiet but something heavier—before he works up the courage to ask her.
"You really think you've never felt it?" he asks, his voice low and steady.
"Not like this," she admits, feeling suddenly exposed but not at the same time. "I’ve had 'fun,' and I’ve had 'decent.' But I haven't had the 'I've loved you for four years, and I'm terrified to touch you because it might break us.' That’s a specific kind of intimacy I don’t have the recipe for."
He looks away for a split second, his gaze landing on the crumbled paper near his foot that he's been moving around, then back to her.
“Maybe it's not a recipe.” He says softly, “What if you stop trying to write what the characters want and just write about what you’d want? If it were someone who actually knew you. Not a red flag. Just... someone who was already there."
He scooches closer, his warmth radiating through the small gap between them. The scent of his laundry detergent, something clean and woodsy, fills the space, making her heart roll slowly and heavily in her chest.
She looks down, now the one playing with the sleeve of her sweater and then looks back at him, her voice barely a whisper. “What if I don’t know what I want, Jungkook?”
He tilts his head, his dark eyes never leaving hers. “Everyone knows what they want.”
“Not when you’ve spent years just trying to survive the 'bad',” she counters, a frustrated heat rising to her cheeks. “I’ve spent so much time looking for red flags that I forgot what a green one even looks like. I’m so used to being the one who has to be ‘fine’ and the one who has to be ‘tough’ that I don't know how to imagine someone just... taking care of it. Taking care of me.”
The words hang in the air, heavier than she intended. As soon as they leave her mouth, the reality of what she just admitted crashes down on her. Her eyes widen slightly, and she immediately tucks her hands back into the oversized sleeves of her sweater, crossing her arms.
"God," she mutters, looking away toward the window, gazing at the city lights. "Ignore me. I sound like a tragic protagonist in a bad indie film. I sound like an idiot."
"You don't sound like an idiot," Jungkook says firmly. He doesn't pull back; if anything, he anchors himself more solidly on the cushion next to her. "You sound like someone who’s tired of carrying everything by herself. There’s nothing 'hopeless' about wanting to be a priority."
She lets out a dry, shaky laugh, trying to force the lighthearted roommate persona back into place. "Yeah, well, let me know when you find a guy like that who doesn't see me as a convenient placeholder. I’ll buy him a drink."
His expression shifts. The gentle reassurance vanishes, replaced by a sharp, sudden frown. "You think you're a placeholder?"
The weight in his voice catches her off guard, felt a pull at her chest a little. She shrugs it off with a quick, jerky motion of her wrists. "I'm a freelancer, Jungkook. My whole life is a series of temporary solutions and month-to-month contracts. Why would my love life be any different?"
“Well,” he says, his gaze intensifying until she’s forced to look back up. “Maybe that’s your problem. You’re looking for a script in the wrong places. If you want to know what it feels like to be seen... start with the things that aren't temporary.”
He holds her gaze for a second longer than necessary before he abruptly stands up and closes her computer.
“Hey!” She exclaims, sitting up straight this time and giving him a ‘wtf’ look.
“That’s enough work for one night," he says, the intense heat in his eyes cooling back down into his usual, protective focus. "You're only in this headspace because your brain is running on fumes. I'm making food."
She blinks, trying to catch up with his sudden shift in energy. "Food? I'm fine, Jungkook. I'm in the zone."
"You're food-deprived, not in a zone," he counters, heading toward the kitchen and flipping the light on. "And you haven't eaten a real meal in the past 24 hours."
"What are you, the food police?" she asks, turning in her seat to lean against the back of the couch, watching him. "You’ve been at the studio, buried in your headphones half the day. How would you know that?"
He doesn't even look back as he pulls a skillet from the cabinet with a familiar metallic clink. "I’m a producer, Y/n. I notice patterns. For starters, your favorite coffee mug, is sitting in the sink. Right next to the other three mugs you’ve cycled through since this morning. No plates. No silverware. Just caffeine."
She opens her mouth to protest, but he’s already on a roll, opening the dishwasher with a pointed look.
"Plus," he adds, opening the dishwasher with a pointed clack, "the dishwasher is empty. Which means you haven't put a single dish in there since I ran it last night. And finally..."
He turns around, leaning his lower back against the counter and crossing his arms with a triumphant smirk. "I just checked the fridge. I left you half of the stir-fry I made yesterday, with a note that said 'Eat this, Y/N.' And I just ate it five minutes ago because it was still sitting there, untouched. You’re caught red-handed."
She slumps back into the couch cushions, defeated but not ready to give up just yet. "Maybe I got takeout," she countered, lifting her chin defiantly. "You don't know my life, koo. I could have had a five-course meal delivered while you were mixing snares."
He didn't even pause at the nickname. He just reached into the fridge, pulling out a block of cheddar cheese. "You never get takeout on deadline nights. You say it 'clutters your creative flow' to wait for a delivery guy. Plus," he added, gesturing vaguely toward the corner of the kitchen, "the trash isn't full. Not a single greasy bag or plastic container in sight."
"What if I took the trash out?" she challenged, crossing her arms.
He finally turned to look at her, one eyebrow arched in pure skepticism. "You? Taking out the trash?"
"I am a grown woman, Jungkook. I am perfectly capable to dispose the trash."
"You never take out the trash because that’s my job," he reminded her, a smirk tugging at his lips as he grabbed a cutting board. "It’s been the unspoken rule of this apartment since month two. I handle the heavy lifting and the garbage; you handle the plants I accidentally try to kill and the Netflix subscription."
"Maybe I’m a changed woman," she muttered, though she was starting to lose her steam. "Maybe I’ve had a sudden personal evolution in the last six hours."
"I highly doubt that," he snorted, turning back to the stove to drop a knob of butter into the pan. It sizzled instantly, filling the air with a savory, comforting aroma. "Considering the last time you tried to 'evolve' and take the trash out, you came back inside pale and told me you’d never do it again because you saw a dead rodent near the bin. You made me go out there with a flashlight to perform a 'site inspection' before you’d even consider going back out to get the mail."
She opened her mouth, then promptly shut it. "It was a very large rodent. It was a casualty of the city. I was showing respect for the fallen."
"Right. Very respectful of you to scream and run back inside," he teased, the sound of his low laugh echoing against the tile. "Now, stay on your side of the crime scene. I'm making grilled cheese. And if you try to say you aren't hungry, I'm feeding yours to the city rats, too."
“Fine,” She exhales before turning back to the front of the couch, staring at her closed laptop.
The silver surface reflected the dim light of the living room. She wants to be inspired. She wants to be the kind of writer who can take a moment of tension and turn it into a thousand words of liquid gold.
But as she listens to the rhythmic thud-scrape of Jungkook’s spatula in the kitchen, she feels more stuck than ever.
His advice repeats in her head, like a riddle she can't solve. Just write about what you’d want. Someone who was already there.
"Easy for you to say, Koo," she whispers to the empty air in front of her.
She tries to visualize the scene again, but it’s like trying to catch smoke with her bare hands. Every time she tries to imagine the "best friends" crossing that line, her brain hits a massive brick wall. She thinks about all those "walking red flags" she’s told him about and realizes she’s spent so much time in the "bad" that she doesn't have a description for the "good."
How is she supposed to write a masterpiece about two people falling in love when she can't even remember the last time a guy made her cum? The emotional intimacy felt like a foreign language, and the physical part felt like a distant, slightly disappointing memory.
She isn’t inspired; she’s just a little annoyed that he makes it sound so simple.
"You better not be on that computer," he calls out from the kitchen, his voice light but knowing. “You’re on a court-ordered food break."
"I'm pondering!" she shouts back, though she bites her lip immediately after.
"Pondering looks a lot like staring at a closed computer," he teases, and she hears the sizzle of the cheese hitting the pan.
She groans, leaning her forehead against the cool metal of the laptop. Great. She stares up at the ceiling, the cursor of her unfinished story still blinking mockingly in the back of her mind.
But then, the scent from the kitchen hits her. It’s the sharp, savory aroma of aged cheddar melting against buttery, toasted sourdough, drifting over the back of the couch like a peace offering. It’s warm, rich, and distractingly perfect, effectively clearing the brain fog of her failed bedroom scene.
She stares up at the ceiling, her stomach giving an expectant growl that betrays her. Damn it. She’d never tell him to his face while she was in a mood like this, but as she drags herself off the cushions to head toward the kitchen, she can't help the grudging thought that follows her.
He really is a good cook.
“Got it,” Y/N says, forcing a nod and smile even though Sloane can’t see how tight her grip is on the pen in her hand. “Thank you for the clarification. I’ll have a new draft for you by Monday.”
She scribbles a few notes in the notebook beside her, even though she knows she’s going to replay this entire conversation in her head after they end the call.
Sloane smiles at her through the screen as she closes the document on her end.
“Perfect,” She says with an encouraging smile, the corners of her eyes crinkling like she was trying to light up the room through the Zoom window display. “I really think you’re close. You’re great at emotional buildup. Trust that instinct. I’m really looking forward to it!”
The call ends with a soft chime, and Y/N is left staring at her own reflection in the darkened screen for a second longer than necessary in the quiet hum of her bedroom.
Her fingers lingered on the trackpad for a second, then fell to her lap. The tension in her shoulders didn’t ease. If anything, it got worse. She exhales and lets herself sink back into her chair, staring up at the ceiling like it might offer creative guidance.
Don’t just write the scene, give us an experience. Place yourself in their shoes. Rachel’s words echoed in her head with the insistent softness of a mantra she wasn’t ready to translate yet.
“What the fuck does that mean?!” She exclaims, scrubbing a hand over her face before staring at the screen like she expects it to give her an answer.
Her laptop is still open to the draft she worked on until nearly three in the morning two nights ago— the one she wrote after an embarrassing amount of late-night research. Her browser history was a digital graveyard of clinical articles on human anatomy, "questionable" YouTube tutorials on chemistry and tension, and she even learned about all the different types of sex positions for adventurous couples. And to confirm, they were definitely…adventurous. She has also promised herself she would never, ever visit that site again.
Alone in his childhood bedroom.
Years of history hang in the air between them.
She’s written about the way they talk. The way they joke to hide how nervous they are. The way one of them finally admits the truth because pretending is exhausting.
But that’s not what Sloane wants. She wants the ache. She wants the messiness of two best friends finally admitting that the "easy and steady" life they’d built wasn't enough anymore. She wanted the sound of their heartbeats over the lake, the way their hands might shake because they’re terrified of losing the friendship, but more terrified of never knowing what it feels like to be more.
Sloane wants her to write about a soul-shaking collision, and Y/N is currently just a girl in her bedroom who knows more about search algorithms for "tension" than what it actually feels like.
Staring at the paragraph she wrote earlier, she tries to imagine what she’s missing.
Maybe they’re standing too close without realizing it at first. Maybe one of them sits on the edge of the bed, and the other stays standing, pacing, trying to act normal. Maybe they keep brushing past each other, not quite touching, but close enough that they both notice.
But that all feels so… abstract.
Her mind goes back to a few nights ago.
She remembers the way he’d leaned back against the couch, his posture relaxed but his eyes anything but. She thinks about the advice he gave her, to write what she would want. But it’s the way his voice changed that stayed with her. That sharp, infected candence he only uses when he’s being serious—the way the rhythmic bounce of his busan accent started to peak through the edges of his words.
She thinks about the moment she blurted out that she didn't know what it felt like to have someone love her in that type of intimate way, and how his gaze had intensified, pinning her to the cushion.
The way his voice had dropped an octave when he talked about her not being a placeholder. The way he’d looked at her—not as his roommate, not as his friend, but as a person he truly believes deserves more. Her chest does that strange little pull again, the same one it did that night, a physical reaction that her brain still isn't fast enough to label.
He had made the idea of a "green flag" feel less like a trope and more like a person. Specifically, the person who was currently at his production studio, leaving her alone in an apartment that felt way too quiet without the constant sound of his humming or the smell of his cooking to distract her from the truth.
She shifts in the chair, suddenly too aware of how quiet the apartment is.
Too aware of the fact that, in the year and a half they’ve lived together, she’s never once seen Jungkook bring anyone home.
Not a girl. Not a guy. Not even a questionable late-night “friend.”
Which is… kind of wild, when she actually thinks about it.
Jungkook is unfairly good-looking.
Like, people definitely stare at him on the street good-looking.
He has that sharp, lethal jawline contrasted by eyes that are devastatingly soft. Dark hair that always looks like he’s just run his hands through it in a moment of frustration or focus. And then there are the lip piercings—the cold, silver glint against his skin that she pretends not to notice but absolutely notices. Her eyes always seem to linger there a second too long whenever he speaks. Then there are those broad shoulders that stretch the seams of his jackets when he shrugs them on, like the fabric is fighting for its life against the sheer width of him.
And then there’s the tattoos.
She hadn’t really clocked how extensive they were until that one night they went out with a group of mutual friends. He’d shown up in a black tank instead of his usual oversized hoodie. It was during a summer heat wave, so he hadn’t even thought twice about it.
Because suddenly his entire right arm was on display, ink wrapping from shoulder to wrist, detailed, bold and impossible not to look at. The rest of it disappeared beneath the neckline of his shirt, dark yet vibrant lines just barely visible where the tattoos crept onto his shoulder and down toward his chest, like the artwork didn’t quite know where to stop.
She remembers standing there with a drink in her hand, the condensation making her palm cold, nodding along to someone’s story while not hearing a single word.
Her entire focus had been pinned to him.
She won’t admit it out loud, but she really liked the tiger lily, which was on his inner forearm. It was bright orange and delicate in a way that felt unfair against all that muscle. Remembers him mentioning that he drew it himself, that it's his birth flower, and represents a plea for love, reflecting his dedication to his music. t the time, she’d thought the meaning was sweet, a glimpse into a softer side of him.
And then the tiny finger tattoos she always notices when he passes her something— small symbols, simple and intentional, like secrets he doesn’t bother explaining.
For a split second, her brain betrayingly wonders what those tattooed fingers would look like against the skin of her own neck. Wonders if they’d feel rough or surprisingly gentle if he were to wrap them around her throat, pinning her back against a wall to get her just to finally make her stop talking nonsense about her latest string of bad dates. To shut her up before she can mention another guy who didn't know what he was doing, because she’s starting to suspect that Jungkook definitely knows what he’s doing.
She shakes the thought away, her face flushing a shade of red.
He’s added more since then. She knows because she notices things like that, even if she pretends not to. Even if she pretends her eyes aren't constantly scanning for new lines of ink every time he rolls up his sleeves.
The idea that no one has been…around…since they started living together doesn’t exactly line up.
Because he definitely isn’t inexperienced. Not with the way he talks about relationships when they come up, or the casual confidence he carries, or the fact that he’s out until two or three in the morning more nights than not. She’s always assumed he was seeing people— just not here. Maybe met up with someone after work, went back to their place, slipped out before sunrise, and headed straight to the studio as if nothing happened.
It’s not really her business.
Except now her brain is doing that annoying thing where it starts poking holes in perfectly reasonable assumptions.
Because Jungkook… doesn’t really act like someone who’s bouncing between hookups.
He’s the guy who makes her dinner when she forgets to eat. Who leaves sticky notes on the fridge reminding her about deadlines and food left for her. Who notices when she’s quiet and asks if she’s okay without making it awkward. Who listens, like actually listens, when she vents about a project or family or life and never makes her feel like she’s talking too much.
He’s steady. Kind. Thoughtful in ways that feel intentional, not just a byproduct of sharing a lease.
And suddenly, the idea of him slipping into someone else’s life at night and back out before morning doesn’t quite match the version of him she knows.
Not that she actually knows.
She knows the roommate version. The friend version.
The guy she shares groceries, inside jokes, and weekend TV marathons with. The guy who steals her snacks and pretends nothing happened when she catches him. The guy who places a blanket on her when she falls asleep first on the couch.
She doesn’t know what he’s like when he’s with someone he wants.
That thought lands heavier in her chest than she expects, sending a sudden, traitorous flip through her stomach. It’s ridiculous. She’s never framed him that way in her head. But then again, she’s never brought anyone home either. It was a choice she’d made early on—partly due to the lack of interest in the "red flags" she’s hooked up with, but mostly out of courtesy.
Jungkook’s room is directly across from hers.
The apartment is charming, but the walls are paper-thin; she can hear when he’s late-night gaming, the soft click-clack of his keyboard, and the low vibration of his bass when he’s working on a track. The thought of him hearing her, or her hearing him, with someone else felt like an invasion of the sanctuary they’d built.
But has he been doing the same for her? Is he staying out until 3:00 AM just so she doesn’t have to hear what happens when he finally loses that "steady and kind" roommate persona?
A sharp, hot spike of something that feels suspiciously like jealousy flares in her throat.
She imagines him in some sleek apartment downtown, his tattooed hands on someone else, that Busan cadence whispering sweet nothings into someone’s ear. It makes her feel nauseous and territorial all at once.
She exhales a shaky breath, forcing the image out of her head.
He can do whatever he wants. They’re just roommates.
He’s a grown man with a life that exists outside these four walls, and she is a professional writer with a deadline. It doesn't matter who he's with. It shouldn't matter.
But it does. Because if he’s out there giving all that "intentional" focus to someone else, then what does that make her? Just the girl who gets the leftovers and the sticky notes?
Except, if she doesn't deliver a draft that makes Sloane’s jaw drop by Monday, she can kiss her milestone payment goodbye. If she doesn't write this, she’ll have to dip into her "emergency only" savings just to cover her half of the utilities. Her pride is currently at war with her bank account.
She exhales, shaking her head aggressively. “Okay. We are not psychoanalyzing my roommate right now. We are writing.”
Her phone buzzes on the desk, the sudden vibration snapping her out of the spiral.
Koo: Hey, how’d the meeting go? Did you survive, or do I need to bring home emergency ice cream?
She blinks, felt a traitorous pull in her chest. He remembered. She’d briefly mentioned the Zoom call this morning while he was hovering over the coffee maker still half asleep, but she hadn’t expected him to remember. Her lips twitch up despite herself.
Of course, he’d check in. 'Cause that’s just the type of guy he is.
Y/n: Ice cream might be mandatory. I survived, but barely.
Y/n: It helped, I think…, but I’m still kind of lost.
Three dots appear immediately.
Koo: Oh? What did she say?
She stares at the screen, thumb hovering over the keyboard.
She bites her lip, her thumb hovering over the screen. She considers just saying "it was fine," but the frustration is still buzzing under her skin, and Jungkook has always been the one person who actually lets her vent.
But how was she supposed to tell her roommate, the man who currently occupied 90% of her subconscious, that she was being told to "method act" her way through a smutty romance scene?
Y/n: She told me the emotional buildup is fine, but the actual intimacy is 'too bland.'
Y/n: She said I need to 'place myself in their shoes.' Give the reader an experience, not just a scene. Which is great, because apparently, I have the romantic range of a teaspoon.
She winced as soon as she sent it. Teaspoon. Why did she say that? Now he was going to think she was some kind of Victorian prude.
Koo: Ouch. Did my advice help at all?
Y/n: Yeah, kind of. I think I’m overthinking it, but the more I try to do that, I come up blank.
There was a long pause. She watched the bubbles appear, then vanish, then reappear. Her heart was hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. Then, the message came through that made her nearly drop the phone.
Koo: I can help you write it later.
She stares at the screen, the breath hitching in her throat. Help her write it? Him? The guy with the tattoos and the Busan accent and the way he looked in a black tank?
Y/n: You want to co-write a smutty romance scene with me, Koo? Seriously?
Koo: Yeah! We can talk through the scene, or I can proofread it and tell you what works and what doesn’t. Sometimes it’s easier to find the tension when you’ve got someone to bounce the dialogue off of.
She stares at the screen, that stupid fucking pull thing happens again to her chest.
She let out a muffled groan, burying her face in a throw pillow. Bounce the dialogue. He made it sound so professional, so "producer-like," but the image of sitting next to him on the couch while he read her deepest, most intrusive thoughts was enough to make her want to fake her own death and move to a different country. Fuck, a different planet.
But she was desperate. And if she didn't fix this scene, her career was going to stall before it even started.
Y/n: I mean… yeah, if you really don’t mind, I’d really appreciate that.
Y/n: And I promise it’s not super long or anything.
Y/n: Which I’m realizing now might be part of the problem.
There was another long pause before he replied.
Koo: lol I don’t mind. I’ll read anything you write, you know that.
Her chest tightened at that. It was so simple, so kind. But before she could even find the words to reply, the final blow came through.
Koo: But only if you promise you’ll go back to your regular sleep schedule after this
Koo: I miss early-bird Y/N before I leave in the mornings
Y/N stared at the screen, her thumbs hovering uselessly over the keyboard. A strange, tight warmth bloomed in her chest, making it hard to swallow.
She leaned back against the couch, the weight of the last forty-eight hours finally crashing down on her. He was right—she hadn’t been herself. Usually, she was the textbook definition of an early bird. She was the girl who needed her eight hours of sleep like she needed air, usually tucked into bed by 10:30 PM so she could enjoy the stillness of the dawn.
But the last two nights? She’d been a ghost in her own home. She’d stayed up until the sky turned gray, fueled by caffeine and the desperate need to make these fictional characters feel something because her own real-life feelings were too terrifying to touch.
She hadn’t even realized how much she’d missed their mornings until he said it. The only reason she’d even seen him this morning was because she’d accidentally passed out on the couch over her laptop, her neck cramped and her brain fried.
She remembered the haze of waking up to the savory, comforting scent of melting butter and eggs. She’d blinked her eyes open to find Jungkook standing over her, his coat already on but his expression soft as he set a plate of perfectly fluffy scrambled eggs and golden buttered toast on the coffee table right in front of her.
"Koo?" she had rasped, panicked and disoriented. "What time is it? Did I sleep through my alarm? I have a meeting with Sloane—"
"Relax," he’d murmured, his voice that low, morning rumble that made her toes curl. "It’s early. You have time. I just wanted to make sure you actually had some fuel in you. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, remember?"
He’d lingered for just a second too long, his hand almost reaching out to brush a stray hair from her face before he caught himself, settling for a small, encouraging nod before heading out the door.
He’d been watching over her. Even when she was a mess, even when she was failing at her own routine, he was there, filling in the gaps.
Y/n: Wow, okay, calling me out.
Y/n: I promise I’ll try to be a functioning human again after this project.
Koo: Good. I was starting to think you’d been replaced by a nocturnal version of yourself.
Koo: I speak only the truth.
She locked her phone and let out a long, shaky exhale, burying her face in her hands.
It was one thing for him to offer to help with a scene. It was another thing entirely to realize that he’d been keeping track of her; feeding her, watching her sleep, and missing the quiet moments they shared. It meant the "routine" she cherished wasn't just a convenience for him; it was a priority.
From the outside, anyone might look at moments like that and think they’re already a couple.
The shared meals. The routines. The easy check-ins.
But to them, it’s just…normal.
Just what happens when two people live together and care about each other and fall into a rhythm without really questioning it.
That’s what roommates are for.
She locks her phone and leans back against the couch, staring at the ceiling.
Okay. So he’s going to read it.
Which means tonight she’ll be sitting next to her very attractive, very kind, very charismatic roommate while he reads a scene about two best friends realizing they’re in love and about to sleep together.
She swallows, then opens her laptop again.
"Okay," she whispered, her voice a mix of nerves and a new, flickering resolve. "If he wants to help, I’m going to let him."
She had about 8 hours before he gets home from the studio.
Plenty of time but also not enough to decide if she was going to play it safe, or if she was going to be brave enough to show him exactly how his advice helped.
The atmosphere in Studio 3 is dense with the low, rhythmic thrum of a bassline Jungkook has been tweaking for the last four hours. The air is cool, with the smell of coffee and his expensive, earthy cologne. Jungkook is hunched over the soundboard, the glow of the monitors casting sharp blue highlights across his jaw and the silver rings in his ears and lip. His expression was very serious and sharp. Meticulous even. Beside him, Taehyung is casually spinning in a chair, while Namjoon sits on the velvet sofa, reviewing lyrics on a tablet.
Despite the intensity of the mix, Jungkook’s focus isn't entirely on the audio waves. Every few minutes, his eyes flicker to the side, landing on his phone. He’s waiting.
When the screen finally illuminates, he doesn’t even wait to finish the bar he’s working on. He reaches for it, and the switch is instant. The tension in his shoulders vanishes. The "Producer Jeon" facade—that usually intimidates everyone in the building—simply evaporates. A soft, giddy smile tugs at his lips, the kind of look that doesn't belong on a man who’s been pulling twelve-hour days for a week straight.
"Oh, look at that," Taehyung drawls, stopping his chair mid-spin. "The ghost is back from the dead. Who’s the mistress, JK? Or Mister?"
Jungkook locks his phone with a quick click, trying to pull the mask back up, but the warmth in his eyes gives him away. "It’s just Y/n. She’s having a crisis with her project."
"Y/n?" Taehyung’s eyes light up with a devious spark. "Wait, I remember her. Your roommate! The one I met at the club downtown, right? During the heatwave? She looked incredible that night. That red mini skirt she had on? Whew Man, I remember wanting to get her number, but you told me she was seeing someone."
Taehyung leans in, his chin in his hand. "Is she still with that guy?"
"No," Jungkook says shortly, his jaw tightening at the memory. He doesn't mention that there was never a "guy"; he just knew Taehyung’s whirlwind dating style would be a disaster for someone as sincere as her. Doesn’t need him to be another guy to add to her list of “Red Flags”. And quite honestly, doesn’t want him on any type of list that deals with y/n.
In his head, he doesn't even try to deny it. He remembers that skirt. She did looked good. Better than good. He remembers how the skirt had clung to her, the way the light caught the line of her collarbone. He remembers how the deep red fabric had stood out against her skin in the strobe lights, and had made her skin look like cream under the neon lights. He’d always thought red was her color—it was loud, bold, and dangerous, everything she usually kept tucked away.
He’d spent half the night playing a silent, tactical game of positioning—subtly shifting his weight or stepping into the path of any guy who let his eyes linger on the hem of that skirt for a second too long. He’d been a wall of muscle and ink, a silent warning to the room that she was his responsibility.
But mostly, he remembers the way she’d looked at him. He’d caught her staring at his tattoos more than once, her gaze lingering on the ink as it covered every inch of his right arm. He’d caught her tracing the intricate lines of his tattoos with her gaze, her breath hitching whenever his muscles flexed as he reached for a drink. And every time their eyes met, she’d look away fast, a flush creeping up her neck that had nothing to do with the heat of the club.
He had wanted her desperately to just reach out. He’d imagined the feeling of her small, soft hand against the inked skin of his bicep, or her fingers hooking onto his forearm. On the crowded dance floor, he’d been inches away from losing his mind, wanting nothing more than to slide his arm firmly around her waist, pull her back against his chest, and claim her in front of everyone.
He’d spent the whole night wanting to be the one she was looking for, but instead, he’d played the role of the protective "friend."
"Earth to Jungkook," Taehyung chirps, snapping his fingers. "You've been staring at that mute button for thirty seconds. You're thinking about the skirt, aren't you?"
"I'm thinking about the mix, Tae. Shut up," Jungkook grumbles, though the tips of his ears are turning a betraying shade of pink.
His phone dings again. This time, the smile Jungkook gives the screen is unmistakable, it’s fond. Warm.
Before he can type a reply, Taehyung lunges. "Give me that!"
"Tae, stop!" Jungkook scrambles, but Taehyung is faster, hopping onto the studio couch and standing on the cushions to keep the phone out of reach.
"Hey! Watch it!" Namjoon yelps, nearly getting a designer boot to the face. He lurches to the side, narrowly avoiding the collision. "Guys, this is a brand-new Italian leather couch. Get off! Seriously!"
They completely ignore him.
Jungkook is too busy trying to tackle Taehyung’s knees to bring him down, but Tae is well-balanced, dodging Jungkook’s reach while his eyes scan the screen.
"Give it back, Tae. I don't know what I'm saying to her yet."Jungkook grunts, lunging forward.
"Let’s see here," Taehyung reads aloud, dodging Jungkook’s grab. "'Y/N: Yeah, kind of. I think I’m overthinking it, but the more I try to do that, I come up blank.'"
"I’m helping you out!" Taehyung chirps. His thumbs fly across the screen. "And... sent."
He tosses the phone back. Jungkook catches it against his chest, his heart dropping into his stomach as he reads the text: I can help you write it later.
"Tae!" Jungkook freaks, his face heating up. "What are you doing? Why would you say that?"
"You're welcome," Taehyung says, finally hopping down from the couch. He offers a mock-apologetic look to Namjoon, who is currently smoothing out the wrinkles in the leather with an annoyed sigh.
"You're welcome? For what?"
Y/n: You want to co-write a smutty romance scene with me, Koo? Seriously?
Jungkook’s breath hitches. Koo. The nickname had started about six months into them living together. He’d been sick—actually, miserably flu-ridden—and she had spent the entire weekend hovering over him with tea and medicine. In his feverish, half-conscious state, he’d been pouting about the taste of some herbal concoction she’d made, and she had laughed, a soft, melodic sound that cut through his brain fog, and whispered, “Drink it, Koo. Don’t be a baby.”
He had pretended to be annoyed, groaning about how he was a grown man and she shouldn't use "cute" names, but secretly? He’d been a goner from then on.
He’d let her call him anything; any ridiculous, shortened version of his name she wanted, as long as she kept looking at him with those eyes.
The eyes that were always a little too wide and dark when they landed on him. They looked at him like he was a puzzle she was dying to solve, filled with a soft, glassy warmth that made him feel like he was the only person in the world. They were "seeking" eyes; the kind that lingered on his mouth when he laughed or traced the lines of his tattoos with a hunger she thought she was hiding. It was a gaze that felt like a physical weight, heavy and warm, pulling the truth out of him before he could even think to guard it.
"This is your opportunity, dude!" Taehyung says, snapping his fingers in front of Jungkook’s face to break his trance.
"What opportunity? I’m not a writer, Tae!"
"No, but you’ve been out of the sack for a while and you have... let's call it technical expertise," Taehyung winks. "It’s a win-win for both of you."
Jungkook blinks, genuinely lost, his mind still halfway in the kitchen with Y/N and her coffee-brown eyes. "W-what are you talking about?"
"I’m talking about the fact that you haven’t had any action in two years."
"That’s not true!" Jungkook defends, though he sounds unsure.
"You’re right," Taehyung counters immediately, his voice dropping into a flat, analytical tone. "It’s been exactly one year, six months, and twelve days."
Jungkook gapes at him. "You’ve been keeping count of my sex activity?"
"I keep count of everything," Taehyung ignores him. "And you want to know something else? That’s also roughly how long Y/n has been your roommate."
Jungkook’s face goes from pink to a deep, embarrassed red. "That has nothing to do with it! I could have been active... You don't know what I do when I'm not with you."
But the lie tastes like ash in his mouth.
The truth is, Taehyung is right. He definitely wasn't active.
It wasn't like he hadn't tried at first— during those first few months after she moved in, he’d gone on a few dates, even brought a girl back to a hotel once. But the drive just wasn't there. He’d found himself wanting to leave early just so he could get home and see if she was still awake on the couch. And he never mentioned the dates to her, even when she had tentatively shared her own dating mishaps over snacks. He’d sat there listening to her talk about some guy from a bar or a disastrous coffee date, nodding along while a quiet, poisonous jealousy simmered in his gut. But when she’d ask, "What about you? Any luck at the studio?" he would just shrug it off with a vague "Too busy with work."
He didn't care to share his because they didn't matter. Bringing up other women in their space felt like bringing static into a perfectly tuned room. He didn't realize, but he didn’t want to see her face fall, or worse, see her look genuinely happy for him. It was easier to let her think he was a workaholic than to admit that every woman he met was just a bland, blurry imitation of the girl who sleeps in the room across from his.
Eventually, the "effort" other women put in just felt like a chore. He’d become strangely content in his headspace, settling into a life of studio sessions and domestic quiet. He hadn't even realized that his "contentment" was actually just him being slowly, completely consumed by her presence.
"Please," Taehyung scoffed. "You're at work all the time. Every time we go out and girls practically lay themselves out for you, you don't even bat an eye. All you do is nonstop fawn over y/n."
"Yeah, you do, dude," Namjoon’s voice pipes up from the corner of the couch. His eyes never leaving his tablet, tone perfectly flat. “Last week, we were in the middle of recording a bridge, and you stopped everything just to reply to her text about what kind of laundry detergent to buy. You spent ten minutes debating the 'scent profile' of lavender. That’s fawning."
Taehyung claps his hands. "See? Namjoon sees it! Even the detergent sees it! You’re a goner."
"So what?" Jungkook snaps, his voice rising as he gets defensive. He starts pacing the small patch of the studio floor. "She’s always at home, and god forbid I actually get along with my roommate. We’re friends. It’s functional."
"There's 'getting along,' and then there's what you do," Taehyung says, leaning forward and tracking Jungkook’s pacing like a hawk. "See Jimin and I— We've been best friends since we were kids. I 'get along' with him, but I don't spend every waking moment with him. I don't try to rush home to hear about his day, I don't cook him three-course meals, and I certainly don't tell my friends I can't go out for drinks because we have to watch the Harry Potter Trilogy."
Jungkook stops mid-stride, his finger flying up in a reflexive correction. "It’s a series, Tae. There are eight movies. Not three. We're on the fifth one."
"Who cares?!" Taehyung shouts, throwing his hands up in theatrical frustration. "Do you see my point? You just proved my point! You’re counting the movies! We are the complete opposite—Jimin and I are chaotic. We have our own lives. But you and Y/N? You're both introverts who 'get along' so well you've forgotten you're supposed to be two separate people. You’ve built this little bubble where it’s just 'JK and Y/N' against the world. You’re practically a married couple at this point."
Jungkook opens his mouth to argue, but the words die in his throat. He thinks about how he turned down a studio party last Friday because Y/N had mentioned she wanted to try making a specific pasta recipe, and he didn't want her to eat it alone.
"The only problem is," Taehyung adds, his voice dropping to a more serious, piercing level, "you can't tell you're in love with her. You think this is just 'roommate' stuff because you’re too scared to look at the truth."
Jungkook is flabbergasted, his mouth opening and closing as he looks at Taehyung, then over at Namjoon for help.
"He's right, dude," Namjoon says calmly, finally setting his tablet down. "The way you talk about her... it's not how people talk about their roommates. You talk about her like she's the center of the room, even when she isn't there. You’ve been playing house for a year and a half."
"What if I am?" Jungkook asks, his voice raw, finally admitting it. "I can't do anything about it when she doesn't feel the same way. I don't want to make it weird. She’s my roommate, guys. My home is there. If I lose her, I lose everything."
Taehyung stands up, the playful smirk finally fading into something more serious. He walks over and places a hand on Jungkook’s shoulder, his expression uncharacteristically grounded.
"How do you know if you haven't even tried?"
"I don't want to creep her out," Jungkook mutters, his eyes fixed on the "Koo" text on his screen. "And it’s not like she asked for my help. You literally sent that text for me. I’m basically forcing myself into her workspace."
"She didn't deny it, did she?" Taehyung points at the phone. "She said she’d really appreciate it.' That’s a green light, kid. A writer as protective of her work as Y/N? If she didn't want you in her head, she would have come up with an excuse in two seconds. Instead, she’s waiting for you."
Jungkook stays quiet, his thoughts spinning. Taehyung is right—she is private. She doesn't even like people looking over her shoulder when she’s journaling, let alone reading a raw draft about intimacy. The fact that she didn't shut it down must mean something.
"How does helping write a scene tell me anything about how she feels?" Jungkook asks, still genuinely lost.
"Work your charm on her!" Taehyung says, throwing his hands out as if the answer is obvious.
Jungkook looks at him like he’s speaking a dead language. "What? My charm? Tae, we’re talking about a Word document, not a club downtown."
"Oh my god, kid, you are so helpless without me." Taehyung lets out a long, dramatic sigh and leans in, hands clasped together. "Listen. Y/N is stuck on this sex scene, right?"
"And she hasn’t had great dating experiences lately? Or felt, you know, real love?"
Jungkook’s brow furrows in a defensive frown. "How do you know that? She doesn't talk to you about that stuff."
"I have my ways," Taehyung says with a cryptic smirk—meaning Jimin has been spilling every detail of Y/n’s late-night venting sessions over wine after they’ve got off facetime. "And you... you have feelings for her?"
Jungkook doesn't say it out loud. He can't. If he says it in this room, under these fluorescent lights, it becomes a reality he has to manage. Instead, he just gives a slow, heavy nod. It feels like he’s admitting to a crime, the weight of the confession settling deep in his gut.
"Then this is your opportunity to show her," Taehyung tells him, his voice uncharacteristically soft. "Show her what it’s like to be loved by someone who actually... loves her."
Jungkook is struck dumb. Taehyung is usually the resident playboy, the one who treats dating like a sport, but those words? They hit Jungkook right in the center of his chest. It’s exactly what he’s been feeling in the quiet moments, when he’s watching her read or when he’s making her tea. He is in love with her.
"How do I do that?" Jungkook asks, his voice barely a whisper.
"Give me the phone." Taehyung reaches out. Jungkook hesitates, his grip tightening, but then he slowly hands it over. Taehyung’s thumbs fly across the screen. We can talk through the scene, or I can proofread it and tell you what works. Sometimes it’s easier to find the tension when you’ve got someone to bounce the dialogue off of.
Taehyung hands it back, looking smug. "The ball is in your court."
Jungkook reads the text, his heart racing against his ribs. "I still don't get it. How am I supposed to 'help' her with this without making it weird?"
"I just spelled it out!" Taehyung groans, throwing his head back. "Do some roleplay! Touch her. Hug her. Kiss her. Do literally anything and just leave all the details out when you come in tomorrow. The only thing I want to hear from you is that I was right. Also, I expect a drink on your tab."
"I don't want to take advantage of her," Jungkook mutters, staring at the screen as if it might explode.
"I’m not saying take advantage. I'm saying stop playing it safe. Show her you're more than just 'the guy she lives with.' Show her you’re a man who wants her."
Before Jungkook can argue, three dings cut through the room.
Y/n: I mean… yeah, if you really don’t mind, I’d really appreciate that.
Y/n: And I promise it’s not super long or anything.
Y/n: Which I’m realizing now might be part of the problem.
All three men look down at the screen.
"Oh, she definitely wants you," Namjoon says, finally looking up with a small, knowing smile.
"See?" Taehyung crows, clapping Jungkook on the back.
Jungkook just stares at the messages. The panic is back, sharper than before, but it's mixed with a terrifying, electric spark of hope. "Guys... she's my roommate. If I mess this up, I lose everything. Not just ‘some girl’. My best friend. My home. My sanctuary."
“First, ouch. I thought I was your best friend, but besides the point.” Taehyung stands up, grabbing his coat. He stops at the door and looks back. "I wouldn't be telling you this if I didn't see a future for it, JK. Y/N is a great girl and she deserves better. You're a great guy and you deserve that too. Don't waste this." He winks. "Good luck, 'Author' Jeon. Try not to let the ink smudge."
Jungkook turns to Namjoon. "Can you believe this guy?"
Namjoon gets up, patting Jungkook on the shoulder. "Normally, I'd say he's crazy. But I think that’s the smartest advice he’s given since I’ve known him. Don't take advantage of her, but don't be a coward either. I wouldn’t waste the opportunity, man."
Jungkook is left alone in the soundproof room, staring at the text bubbles. He grabs his keys, jaw set, and hands hovering over the screen’s keyboard. His heart is hammering against his ribs, louder than any bassline he's ever produced. He isn't thinking about the music anymore. He’s thinking about the fact that in less than 8 hours, he’ll be sitting on that couch next to the girl who has unknowingly owned his heart for a year, six months, and twelve days.
Y/n stared at the blinking cursor until the Word document started to burn into her retinas.
The words were still looping in her brain, a quiet, steady rhythm that made her heart feel a size too big for her chest. It was such a Jungkook thing to say—too sweet to be a jab, but too honest to be ignored.
She glanced at the clock on her taskbar. 6:45 PM.
He would be home any minute.
Panic, sharp and electric, surged through her. She looked down at the scene she had managed to scratch out in the last hour. It was better than the previous draft, mostly because she’d stopped trying to imagine a fictional character and started thinking about the way Jungkook’s hand felt when it accidentally brushed hers while reaching for the salt.
She’d written about the heat of a palm against a waist. About the scent of cedarwood and laundry detergent. About a voice that sounded like gravel and honey.
I am so screwed, she thought, her face heating up.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps near the front door stops her train of thought. Her breath hitched.
Then, the sharp, metallic jingle of keys.
Y/N scrambled to sit up straighter on the couch, pulling her oversized cardigan tighter around her shoulders as if it could act as armor. She tried to look busy, professional, even, but her hands were shaking so much she accidentally deleted a whole paragraph.
The key turned in the lock. It was a sound she heard every day, a sound that usually meant "relief" or "company," but tonight, it sounded like a starting gun.
The door swung open, letting in a gust of the cool evening air and the familiar, grounding scent of him; ozone, expensive coffee, and that cedarwood cologne that made her want to lean in closer.
Jungkook stepped inside, kicking the door shut with the heel of his boot. He looked exhausted, his hair a bit messy from a long day, his leather jacket pulled over a simple black tee. He was carrying a small grocery bag in one hand.
When his eyes found hers across the dim living room, that sharpness she’d seen before melted into something soft.
"Hey," he said, smiling, voice low and roughened from hours of talking in the studio. "You still a nocturnal version of yourself, or did you survive the afternoon?"
Y/N forced a small, shaky smile, her heart thumping a frantic beat against her ribs. "I'm surviving. Barely."
“Good.” He tossed his keys into the bowl by the door, boots discarded to the side, and started walking toward the kitchen, the rustle of the plastic bag loud in the quiet space. "I brought the emergency ice cream. Let me just get this in the freezer before it melts.”
He lingered for a second to wash his hands, and then turned back toward her. He started unzipping his jacket as he walked back into the living room, tossing it onto the armchair. Instead of taking his usual spot in the chair, he walked right over and sat on the edge of the couch, next to her; close enough that she could feel the heat radiating off of him, and his scent finally taking over the space.
"Seriously, Koo?" she whispered, her voice smaller than she intended. "You're really going to do this?"
Jungkook turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made her pulse skyrocket. He didn't look like a roommate at that moment. He looked like the man who had just told his best friends he was in love with her.
"I told you," he said, a corner of his mouth curving up. "I'll read anything you write. Now, move over. Let's see how much of a 'teaspoon' you actually are."
He didn’t take the laptop.
Instead, he reached out, his tattooed hand lingering near hers as he slid the coffee table a few inches closer, then angled the screen so it sat between them like a shared secret.
Y/N watched his eyes. She watched them track left to right, his expression unreadable as he hit the part about the scent of cedarwood and the heat of a palm against a waist. The silence in the apartment was deafening, punctuated only by the distant, muffled hum of the city outside their window. But he didn’t say anything about it, just kept reading.
The coffee table was now cluttered with half-empty water bottles and scribbled notes. The cursor on the laptop screen blinked steadily, marking the end of a long, frantic paragraph. For the last two hours, the air had been thick with the sound of tapping keys and Jungkook’s low, steady voice as he helped her dismantle the walls of her own prose.
He leaned back, his eyes scanning the latest screen of text. He let out a slow breath, nodding.
"It’s better," he admitted, his voice sounding a little rougher than it had two hours ago. "Much better. The dialogue feels real now. But..." He trailed off, his brow furrowing as he looked at a specific paragraph.
Y/N groaned, dropping her head back against the cushion. "But there’s still something missing."
"Yeah," he murmured, his gaze shifting from the screen to her. "It’s still... guarded. It’s like you’re describing a dance from the back of the room instead of being the one front and center."
"I told you," Y/N whispered, her face burning. "It's hard to write something that's... hard to picture. I don't know how they should move. I don't know where their hands go."
Jungkook stared at her for a long beat, his dark eyes searching hers. His movements were silent and fluid as he stood up from the cushions.
He didn't say anything at first, just reached down and offered her his hand—palm up, a silent, open invitation.
Y/N blinked, her pulse fluttering in her neck. "What- What are you doing?"
She hesitated for a split second longer before her fingers finally reached out, disappearing into his much larger, tatted hand. As her skin met his, a wave of clarity hit her that had nothing to do with the scene.
It was a simple, devastating truth. This was the man who was always the silent protector when they went out to clubs with the rest of their friends—the one whose eyes were always scanning the room, who always knew where the exits were, who would subtly shift his body to shield her from a rowdy crowd without ever making a scene. Even when it was just the two of them walking downtown, she never felt the need to look over her shoulder. Her guard, which was usually a fortress she kept bolted shut against the world, simply didn't exist when Jungkook was in the room.
She let him pull her up, and as she stood in front of him. She felt so safe that her defenses had crumbled, leaving her completely exposed to the heat radiating off him.
Jungkook didn't let go of her hand. He took a slow step forward, invading her personal space until she had to crane her neck to keep meeting his eyes.
Standing this close, the "Roommate" label felt like a lie. She was acutely aware of the scent of his cologne mixed with the sharp, clean bite of his aftershave. Her eyes traced the silver ring on his bottom lip before flickering up to the dark, blown-out intensity of his pupils.
"You wrote that he approaches her," he whispered, his voice a low rumble she could feel in her own chest. He moved his free hand, his fingers skimming the fabric of her sleeve, "But it’s not just a walk. It’s a claim."
The heat of his hand was staggering. His thumb traced the sensitive skin on her thump, a touch so subtle but grounded and made her knees weak.
"And their eyes..." He leaned in, and the world narrowed down to him. "They shouldn't just be looking at each other. They should be searching. Looking for the moment the other person breaks. Like this."
For the first time, she realized that the reason she felt so safe with him wasn't that he was harmless. It was because all that protective, dangerous energy he usually aimed at the world was currently focused entirely, and devastatingly, on her.
"What are their names?" he asked, his voice low and steady. "The characters."
"I... I haven't named them yet," she admitted, her voice trembling as she looked up at him. "I just call them 'He' and 'She' in the notes."
Jungkook’s lips twitched—a tiny, knowing smirk that sent a shiver down her spine. "Well, we can’t do that. We’ll just improvise." He tilted his head, his gaze softening into something dangerously sweet. "You ready, Angel?"
The pet name hit her like a physical weight, making her breath catch. "Angel?"
"I thought it was fitting," he teased, though his thumb was now slowly, deliberately stroking the back of her hand. "Unless you have a better one for me?"
Y/N swallowed hard, her mind a complete fog of his cologne and the overwhelming reality of him. "What should I call you then?"
"Call me what you always call me," he replied, his voice dropping to a whisper as he stepped even closer. His free hand hovered just inches from her waist, exactly like the sentence she had just written ten minutes ago. "Call me Koo."
She looked up at him, her heart in her throat, feeling the world outside their apartment vanish. "Okay... Koo."
"Good." Jungkook’s expression shifted, the playfulness dying out and being replaced by a raw, naked honesty.
The tips of her toes were now touching his.
"In the draft," he murmured, his eyes scanning hers for permission, "you wrote that he stops just before he touches her face. That the 'anticipation was worse than the act.' Is that right?"
Y/N could only nod, her voice trapped in her throat.
"Okay. Let's test the physics of it."
Jungkook’s other hand rose slowly.
He didn't rush. He moved with the agonizing deliberation of someone who had practiced this in his head a thousand times. He stopped his hand just an inch from her cheek. Her eyes fluttered shut, and without the visual, the space between them felt intensified. All other senses spiked; she could hear the rustle of his black tee as he shifted, his cologne twice as potent compared to when he sat next to her.
"You wrote that she reaches for him first," Jungkook whispered, his breath ghosting over her lips. "Because she can't stand the space between them anymore. Show me, Angel. How does she do it?"
Driven by a sudden, reckless surge of bravery, she let her hands rise.
Her fingers hovered for a split second before they landed on his forearms. She let her touch linger on the intricate ink of his tattoos. The skin there was warm and slightly textured, the ink feeling like a part of his very soul under her fingertips. She finally knew what it felt like—the reality of the art she’d stared at from across the couch for a year and a half. She found herself wishing the moment would never end, wishing she could slide her hands further up, under the hem of his black tee, to trace the patterns as they climbed his shoulders and disappeared toward his chest.
"Like this," she whispered, her chest brushing the hard wall of his own.
"And then?" he prompted, his voice dropping an octave, sounding exactly like the gravel and honey she’d described. "If she’s trying to find the 'tension,' does she pull him closer, or does she wait for him to take the lead?"
"She... she's testing him," Y/N whispered, her eyes opening to find him watching her with an expression that was almost pained. Her hands slid up his arms, over the hard curve of his shoulders, until her fingers were lightly tangling in the soft hair at the nape of his neck. It was exactly what she had in that document, but the reality was a thousand times more vivid.
Jungkook groaned; a low, vibration that she felt in her own chest. He didn't break the roleplay, but his grip on her waist tightened, pulling her flush against him. Her oversized sweater bunched up under his hands, his thumbs tracing the line of her hip bone.
As they moved to the couch, the energy shifted from a lesson to a revelation. Jungkook followed her down, his body a steady, heat-radiating weight that refused to let the contact break. When he braced himself over her, caging her into the velvet cushions, Y/N’s hands fell to his chest.
Through the thin cotton of his shirt, his chest felt like a wall of solid, unyielding muscle. For eighteen months, she had lived in the same space as him, catching only glimpses of his physique—the sharp outline of his abs through a damp shirt after the gym, the way his shoulders filled out a suit jacket. She had spent a year and a half building a gallery of him in her mind, wondering what he looked like under the fabric.
She thought of the women he might have seen in the past, a sharp pang of envy hitting her. They were privileged—they had been allowed to see him in all his glory, to touch the skin she was currently only dreaming of. But as her palms pressed into the frantic, heavy thud of his heart, she knew with a fierce certainty that none of them could possibly worship him the way she would. No one would admire the sheer, raw power of his physique with the same reverent awe she was feeling right now.
"The dialogue," Jungkook reminded her, his forehead resting against hers.
Y/N’s fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt, her knuckles brushing against that hard wall of muscle. She wanted to tear the fabric away. She wanted to see the ink, the skin, and the man without the armor. "I... I have a draft. He tells her that he’s tired of talking."
"Tired of talking," Jungkook repeated, the words a low vibration she felt in her own bones. "Okay. Then show me what he does instead."
He shifted, settling his weight between her knees. The sheer proximity made the air feel thin, her lungs struggling to pull in anything that wasn't the scent of him.
"Tell me the line," he whispered, his face inches from hers. "What is he saying with his hands? What is he trying to prove to her?"
"He's... he's telling her that she's beautiful," She whispered. Her hands moved slightly, her palms flat against his chest. "And that he’s been waiting for her to look at him like this for a long, long time."
Jungkook’s gaze softened, a raw, aching vulnerability breaking through his mask. "You want to know what the 'experience' feels like, Angel? It’s not just a word on a page. It’s the way your pulse is hitting my thumb right now, erratic and terrified, but still reaching for me."
He leaned in another fraction, his nose brushing against hers. Y/n’s fingers curled tighter into the fabric over his chest. For a fleeting, dizzying second, she contemplated sliding her hands beneath the hem.
"The Experience," Jungkook continued, his breath hot against her mouth, "is when you realize that the person in front of you is the only thing keeping you grounded, while also being the very thing that’s making you fly apart. It’s the weight of me against you. It’s the fact that I can feel your heart trying to beat its way into my own chest."
He shifted his hips slightly, the friction of his joggers against her legs sending a jolt of electricity straight to her core.
"It’s when the talking stops being enough," he rasped, his eyes dark with a hunger that made her vision swim. "When you realize that even if you wrote a million words, you’d never be able to capture the way I’m looking at you right now. Because you aren't 'Her' anymore, Y/n. And I’m sure as hell not 'Him.'"
He held her there, suspended in that agonizing hair’s breadth of distance. He was showing her the ‘Experience’ by denying her the ending. He was making her feel the hollow, aching need for him so deeply that she’d never be able to forget it.
"He’s waiting," Jungkook prompted, his voice a low, beautiful growl. "He’s shown her exactly what the ‘Experience’ is. So, does she let him walk away? Or does she finally give him the ending he’s been waiting for?"
Her breath hitched, eyes searching his. "She... she doesn't want him to walk away," she whispered, the truth finally breaking through the last of her own armor.
Jungkook’s eyes flared, a flash of something raw and triumphant crossing his face. For a second, the tension reached a boiling point. But then, he let out a slow, shaky exhale and abruptly pulled back, leaving her cold, trembling, and completely undone.
He stood up, his movements stiff and uncharacteristically awkward. He didn't look at her. He couldn't. He ran a hand through his messy hair, his chest still heaving with the effort of catching his breath.
"Then you should write that," he said, his voice strained as he fought for his own self-control. "Write it exactly like that. Give them the ending they deserve."
Y/N’s heart gave a painful, confused thud. Give them the ending. Did he mean the nameless characters? Did he mean 'He' and 'She'? Or was he talking about them—about the eighteen months of shared meals and silent protection and the ‘Experience’ they had just shared on this couch? The ambiguity of it was a dull ache in her chest.
He reached for his leather jacket on the armchair, clutching the heavy material as if he needed something solid to hold onto. He turned toward the hallway, his back a broad, impenetrable wall that she suddenly, desperately wanted to reach out and touch again.
"I'm beat," he muttered, finally casting a glance back at her. The look he had earlier was gone, buried under a mask of exhaustion that felt manufactured. "I’m going to wash up and head to bed. I've got an early shift tomorrow."
It was a lie. They both knew it. He was a man who lived for his sleep, and he’d told her just that morning that he was looking forward to a slow Thursday. He wasn't running to work; he was running from the living room. From her. From the way her fingers had felt on his skin and the way she had looked at him like he was the only thing left in the world.
"Don't stay up too late, Y/N," he added, his voice regaining some of its usual distance.
He didn't wait for her to answer. He turned and disappeared down the hallway, the sound of his bedroom door clicking shut echoing through the silent apartment like a finality she wasn't ready for.
Y/N sat there in the dim light, the ghost of his thumb still burning on her lower lip. Her skin was still humming with the electricity of his touch, and her mind was a chaotic loop of his voice calling her Angel. She looked down at her laptop—the cursor was still blinking.
She was supposed to write the ending. But as she looked at the empty hallway, she realized she had no idea how the story was supposed to end if the lead actor had just walked off the set.
Y/N kicked the tangled sheets off her legs for the tenth time, the cool air of her bedroom doing nothing to soothe the phantom heat of Jungkook’s hands on her hips. Her mind was a chaotic mess of ‘Experience’ definitions and the way his lip piercing had felt against the shell of her ear.
Give them the ending they deserve. The words mocked her from the dark. She was annoyed—furious, actually. She was annoyed that he had started something and then walked away to "wash up" for a non-existent early shift. But more than that, she was annoyed at herself. Why hadn't she just pulled him down? Why had she let herself stay silent when the woman in her was screaming for release?
"Screw it," she whispered to the empty room. If she was going to be awake and miserable, she was at least going to be awake with sugar in her system.
She rolled out of bed, not bothering with a robe. She was just in her oversized black sleep shirt—the one that hung off one shoulder and barely grazed the tops of her thighs. It covered her underwear, but it left her legs completely on display as she padded down the hallway on bare feet.
The apartment was a graveyard of shadows, the only light coming from the microwave clock. She reached the kitchen, her mind already tasting the cold, sugary comfort of the cookie dough ice cream. She opened the freezer door, the white fog rolling out over her shins, and reached for the top shelf.
Her brow furrowed. She pushed aside a bag of frozen peas and a tray of ice. Nothing.
The kitchen light turned on and the voice came from the shadows by the kitchen island; a low, sleep-deprived rasp that sent a jolt of pure electricity straight to her toes.
Y/n spun around, her heart jumping into her throat. Jungkook was leaning against the marble counter, half-shrouded in the silvery light of the moon. He had ditched the leather jacket and the black tee; now, he was just in a deep-neck black tank top and still in the grey sweatpants that hung dangerously low on his hips.
In his hand, he held the pint of cookie dough ice cream. He took a slow, deliberate bite from the spoon, his eyes never leaving hers.
The sight of him was enough to make her breath hitch. Without the sleeves of his t-shirt, the full extent of his tattoos was on display, the dark ink wrapped around his muscular forearms and disappearing over the curve of his shoulders. The tank top showed the sharp cut of his collarbones and the breadth of his chest, making the kitchen suddenly feel small. Reminds her of that one summer night at the club. Sort of wishes she made a move then, but now shes just annoyed he’s devouring her emergency ice cream and not her.
"Jungkook," she breathed, her fingers clutching the hem of her shirt as she realized just how much skin she was showing. "I thought you were going to bed."
Jungkook didn't look like he was ready to go to sleep. He looked like a man who was stuck in the same tug-of-war she was. He lowered the spoon, his gaze dropping from her eyes, tracing the line of her throat down to where the shirt slipped off her shoulder, before lingering on her bare legs.
"Couldn't sleep," he admitted, his voice weighted with the honesty he had tried to hide earlier. He held out the pint toward her, a small, almost challenging tilt to his head. "Want a bite?"
The casualness of it—the way he was standing there, leaned against the counter, set something off in her. The annoyance she’d been nursing in bed flared into a sharp, spark of defiance.
He was offering her a bite of ice cream as if he hadn't left her heart screaming in the living room.
"You're unbelievable," she muttered, though the words were thick with the sleep she hadn't managed to get.
She padded across the cold floor, her bare legs flashing in the moonlight, until she was standing directly in front of him. Up close, she was reminded of his scent, how intoxicating it was. She was acutely aware that she was half-dressed and that his eyes were still tracing the hem of her shirt, but she didn't care.
She reached out, her fingers brushing his warm ones as she snatched the spoon right out of his hand.
He didn't move away. He stayed leaning against the counter, caging her in with his presence alone, watching with an intense, unreadable focus as she took a bite of the cookie dough.
The ice cream was freezing, a sharp contrast to the heat radiating off him. She purposefully didn't look down at the way his tank top clung to his muscles, but she could feel the gravity of him, pulling at her.
"So," he rasped, his voice sounding like it was being pulled from the back of his throat. He tilted his head, a ghost of a smirk playing on his lips, "How did the writing go? Did you finish the scene?"
Y/N almost choked on the ice cream. She swallowed, her eyes snapping to his. "Are you serious, Jungkook?"
"Deadly," he murmured. He leaned in a fraction, his chest nearly brushing the front of her shirt. "You seemed so inspired on the couch. I figured you would’ve had at least three chapters done by now."
"It’s hard to write an ending when the inspiration walks out of the room cause he has an ‘early shift,’" she countered, her voice laced with a sarcasm that didn't quite hide her frustration. She held the spoon like a weapon between them.
Jungkook’s jaw tightened. The playfulness in his eyes died out, replaced by that raw, naked honesty that made her pulse skyrocket. "The shift was a lie," he admitted, his voice dropping into that private, dangerous register.
"I went to my room because if I stayed on that couch for one more minute, I wasn't going to let you go. And I thought…” He pauses, “I thought I was being the 'good guy’ by giving you space."
"Space?" she repeated, her voice rising with a sharp, incredulous edge. She poked the spoon toward his chest, the silver hitting his tank top. "You don't get to decide that for me, Jungkook. You don't get to walk away when things get 'heavy' and call it a favor. That wasn't being a ‘good guy’; that was being a coward."
She took another spoonful of the ice cream as he just watched her, words still registering.
He didn't snap back. He didn't even move. He stayed leaned against the marble, his hands gripped tightly to the edge of the counter behind him as if he were physically restraining himself from reaching for her.
He brought his face inches from hers, but kept that narrow, agonizing gap of air between their bodies.
"A coward?" he finally whispered, the word vibrating in the space between them. "I've spent the last 18 months making sure I didn't overstep. Making sure I didn't make things weird for you in your own home. Do you have any idea how hard it is to be 'just roommates' when I can hear you breathing through the wall every single night?"
A heavy, suffocating silence followed.
The only sound was the low hum of the refrigerator and the distant drip of the faucet. She didn't have a retort, no sharp sarcasm to throw back at him. She just stood there, heart hammering against her ribs, watching the way his chest heaved with every ragged breath.
The honesty in his voice, the raw, jagged admission that he’d been living in a state of constant, quiet torture just to keep her comfortable, stripped her of every defense she had.
She looked at the spoon in her hand, then back up at him. The annoyance she had felt earlier was being swallowed whole by something much more desperate.
Jungkook watched her, searching her face for a reaction. When she didn't speak, his gaze softened into something vulnerable, almost pained.
"I pulled away," he rasped, his voice sounding like it was being dragged over gravel, "because I knew if I started, I wouldn't be able to stop. I knew I’d want everything.”
She didn’t pull away when he got closer. Instead, she looked him straight in the eye, voice almost challenging. "Everything? What does that mean to you, Jungkook?”
That was the last thread of his restraint.
His hand shot out, his fingers locking onto her hip with a desperate intensity as he pulled her close to him. The sudden impact of her small body hitting his hard frame made her breath hitch. He leaned down until his lips brushed the shell of her ear, his voice a dark, jagged whisper.
"It means I don't just want to kiss you and say goodnight," he murmured, his thumb digging into her hip through the thin fabric of her sleep shirt. "It means I want to see you unraveled. I want to feel you shaking under my hands. I want to know exactly what sounds you make when you've forgotten your own name. I want to spend the rest of the night finding every single spot on your body that makes you fall apart, and then I want to wake up and do it all over again and again."
He pulled back just an inch, his dark eyes searching hers with a raw, triumphant possessiveness. "That’s what 'everything' means to me. Is that enough of an ending for you?"
Y/N’s heart was hammering so hard it felt like it might burst through her ribs. Her idea of him helping her earlier is long gone; this was the raw, unfiltered reality of a man who had been starving for her for five hundred days.
She let the spoon slip from her fingers. It hit the counter behind him with a sharp clink and then clattered to the floor, the sound echoing like a starting pistol, but neither of them flinched, too engrossed with one another.
"Show me," she breathed, her hands sliding up to cup his face, her thumbs tracing the heat of his cheekbones. "Show me the man I deserve. Don’t hold back, Jungkook. Not tonight."
Jungkook didn't move forward. Instead, he went still. He looked down at her, eyes searching hers with a sudden intensity that made her breath hitch. He didn't pull away, but he didn't close the gap either.
"Y/N," he rasped, his voice sounding raw and fragile. "I don’t want to be like the other guys you’ve been with. The ones who just... took what they wanted and left you wondering where you stood."
His hands, still gripped tight on her hips, flexed almost imperceptibly. "You deserve so much more than being a 'placeholder.' You deserve someone who stays. And I need you to understand that if we do this…If I show you everything, it’ll be hard for things to go back to the way they were. There’s no undoing this. I won't be able to just be your roommate tomorrow."
The silence that followed was heavy with the truth of his words. He was laying his heart on the line, giving her one last chance to choose the safety of their friendship over the fire of what they could be.
Y/N didn't hesitate. She leaned in, her forehead resting against his, her fingers tangling in the hair at the nape of his neck to pull him just a fraction closer.
"I don’t want to go back," she whispered, her voice steady and sure. "I love the life we have in this apartment, Jungkook, but that’s only because I love having you in my life. The man who makes me food when I forget to eat, who knows exactly how I take my coffee, who cancels his own plans just to stay in and have a movie marathon with me."
Jungkook’s brow arched, a look of genuine surprise flickering through the heat in his eyes. "Wait... you knew about me canceling plans?"
A small, knowing smirk played on her lips. "I have my ways."
"Jimin?" he guessed, a dry, half-annoyed laugh escaping him.
"Let's just say Taehyung is very vocal about how 'annoying' it is that you're never at the clubs when we hang out," she countered softly. Her expression sobered as she reached up to cup his jaw. "I used to sit here and rant to you about those stupid dates and those stupid guys. I thought it was so nice of you to tell me I deserved better... but I was so blind, Koo. You were the 'better' the whole time. You are what I want. You're the man I deserve."
She leaned in, her lips a mere breath away from his. "I want you, Koo. All of you."
That was the final blow to his walls. The mention of his quiet sacrifices made his mask crumble entirely.
"I've been waiting so long to hear you say that," He rasped, his voice thick with a relief so heavy it was almost tangible.
He still hasn’t moved, his hands moving from her hips to gently frame her face. He looked at her with a soft, hesitant reverence, his thumbs tracing her cheekbones as if he were afraid she might vanish if he moved too fast. He waited, his dark eyes searching hers, giving her every opportunity to change her mind.
Y/n didn't move away. She leaned in, closing that final, agonizing inch, and then their lips finally met.
He’s so soft, was her first thought. She had spent hundreds of hours wondering what it would be like, but the reality was more intoxicating than any draft she’d ever written. His lips were plush and warm, moving against hers with a tentative, questioning sweetness that made her toes curl.
Then, she felt the cool, smooth metal of his lip ring.
In her head, she had always imagined it would be a cold, sharp metallic interruption to the heat. But as his mouth moved over hers, she realized she was wrong. The silver wasn't cold at all; it was humming with the same feverish heat radiating off his skin. She wasn't sure if it was just the sheer intensity of the moment or if his body was burning so hot that he’d warmed the metal himself, but the sensation of it sliding against her lower lip was electric. It added a textured edge to the softness of the kiss, a constant reminder that this was him—her friend, her roommate, her Jungkook.
A small, shaky breath escaped her into his mouth, and that was the signal he needed.
The hesitation vanished. The "Good Guy" persona didn't disappear, but he stepped aside for the man who had been starving for her. His hand slid from her face to the nape of her neck, tatted fingers tangling deep in her hair to tilt her head back, deepening the kiss until it was no longer sweet, but soul-deep and possessive.
He tasted like the cookie dough ice cream and the dark, hidden parts of his heart he was finally letting her see.
Now that the barrier was down, the eighteen months of suppressed energy between them began to boil over, turning the gentle kiss into something far more volatile.
He didn’t pull back. He kept his lips locked onto hers, his mouth moving with a sudden, desperate hunger. He didn't want to lose the connection for even a second. One of his hands stayed on the side of her neck, his thumb grazing her jawline to hold her steady, while his other hand dropped to her hip, fingers digging into the soft curve.
With a low groan in the back of his throat, he used that grip to turn her. In one fluid motion, he switched their spots, her back against the counter, with him leaning over her.
The sudden impact and the change in orientation caught her off guard. Y/N let out a sharp, surprised gasp against his lips, and Jungkook took that as his chance.
The moment her mouth parted, his tongue slid inside, deepening the kiss.
He caged her in, his chest crushing against hers as he crowded her into the marble. He broke the kiss for only a fraction of a second, his breath hitching as he moved to the sensitive skin just below her ear.
"You have no idea," he rasped, his voice vibrating against her skin, "how long I’ve wanted to do that."
His hands didn't stay still. The hand on her neck slid down, joining the other on her hips, squeezing the flesh there before his palms trailed lower. He mapped the length of her thighs through the thin fabric of her sleep shirt.
Then, they found the back of her knees.
With effortless strength, he hooked them, lifting her legs and draping them over his own hips. He hoisted her up, setting her firmly on top of the counter so that they were perfectly eye-level.
He stepped into the space between her thighs, hands returning to her waist to pull her flush against him. The cool marble beneath her was a sharp contrast to the feverish heat of his body.
"Better?" he murmured, his dark eyes blown wide, searching hers with a raw, triumphant focus. He looked at her like she was the only thing in the world that mattered. “I want to make sure you’re comfortable.”
His hands slide slowly, deliberately up her thighs. His palms were warm, touch felt possessive but careful. He watched the way her sleep shirt bunched up, his eyes darkening even further as he took in the sight of her legs draped over his hips and saw a peak of her black laced panties.
Y/N wrapped her legs tighter around his waist, her fingers tangling in the hair at the nape of his neck to pull him back down.
"Koo," she whispered, her voice trembling as her lips reached his.
"I’m right here," he murmured. He leaned in, but instead of her lips, his mouth found the sensitive spot on her jaw.
He began to trail slow, ghost-like kisses down her neck, his movements agonizingly patient. Each press of his lips felt like a vow. He bypassed the pulse point where her heart was thudding, instead opting to nuzzle into the crook of her shoulder.
"I've spent so many nights," he rasped, his voice vibrating against her skin, "staring at the wall between our rooms, wishing I could touch you like this. Imagining exactly where my hands would go if I ever got the chance. Mapping you out in my head until I thought I’d go crazy."
To prove his point, his hands traveled further up, tracing the curve of her hips with a reverence that made her toes curl again. He moved with the precision of a man who had memorized a map in the dark and was finally seeing the landmarks in the light. One of his hands reached her knee, gently nudging them further apart, wedging himself as close as counter would allow.
Y/N’s fingers dug further into the nape of his neck, her head falling back as his lips moved to the hollow part of her throat. This was nothing like she had written about; this was something deeper.
He was being so deliberate, so careful to ensure she felt every single point of contact. His thumb traced the inside of her thigh, just at the hem of her shirt, and the touch was so light it felt like a tease, yet it sent a jolt of electricity straight to her core.
She felt small against him, but not powerless. She felt like the center of his entire universe.
Her breath hitched, her fingers tightening in his hair. "I’ve been imagining it too," she whispered, her voice thick with the same honest hunger. "Every time you’d walk past me in the hall... every time we sat on that couch together. Every. Time, Koo."
Jungkook pulled back just an inch, his dark eyes searching hers, intense and searching. "Then tell me," he murmured, his thumb still grazing the soft skin of her inner thigh. "Where have you wanted them the most? Where have you been imagining my hands, Angel?"
The challenge in his voice was the final spark. She didn't answer with words. She reached down, her hands finding his large ones. Moving slowly, guiding his hands upward.
She placed them firmly over her chest, the heat of his palms soaking through the thin fabric. Jungkook’s breath caught, his fingers instantly flexing, molding to her shape with a possessive, heavy pressure that made her back arch.
"Here," she breathed, her eyes locked onto his.
Then, she took one of his hands, the tatted one, sliding it down her body. Past her waist, past the hem of her shirt, until she pressed his palm directly against her core.
"And here," she whispered, her voice breaking.
Jungkook’s expression fractured. Another groan erupted from his throat, the sound of surrender. He didn't move his hand away; instead, he pressed closer, his thumb finding the ouline of her folds through the silk, applying a steady, maddening pressure that made her vision blur.
"You're going to be the death of me," he groaned, his forehead dropping against hers. "I was trying to be patient. I was trying to be the 'good guy' for five more minutes."
"I don't want five more minutes," she countered, her legs tightening around his waist, pulling him as close as they could physically be. "I want everything you promised."
"You want it now?" he rasped, his thumb beginning to move in a slow, agonizing circle against the silk of her underwear. "No more research, Angel? Just this?"
"Just this," she choked out, her head falling back as the friction began to build.
He didn't make it easy for her. He stayed slow at first, his large hand cupping her firmly, his fingers splayed across her thigh to anchor her while his thumb did the work. He watched her face with a terrifying level of focus, memorizing the way her brow furrowed and the way her lower lip trembled.
"Look at me," he commanded softly, his voice a jagged edge in the quiet kitchen. "Don't close your eyes. I want you to see who’s doing this to you."
Y/N forced her eyes open, her breath coming in short, shallow hitches. The sight of him; flushed, desperate, and entirely devoted to her pleasure, was almost more than she could handle. As he increased the pressure, moving with a practiced rhythm through the thin fabric, she felt the ‘Experience’ he had promised finally take hold.
The world narrowed down to the heat of his palm and the silver of his lip ring catching the moonlight. She reached for him, her nails digging into the hard muscles of his forearms, one leg tightening around his waist as she tried to pull him even closer.
"Koo... please," she whimpered, her voice breaking.
"I've got you," he whispered, his own breathing becoming ragged. He shifted his weight, his thumb finding the perfect, maddening pace. "Go on, Y/n. Show me what I’ve been missing for eighteen months. Give it all to me."
Y/N’s back arched off the marble, a high, broken cry leaving her throat as the first wave of her release hit. She felt like she was shattering, her entire body vibrating against him. Jungkook didn't pull back; he stayed right there, his hand steady and firm, holding her through the tremors, his eyes never leaving hers as he watched her come undone.
God, was the only thought her brain could form.
A dazed, overwhelming realization washed over her as the sparks behind her eyes slowly began to fade. In all the "research", in all the actual dates she had been on and the men she had slept with, none of them had ever done this. No one had ever made her lose control and cum like this. And certainly not through a layer of silk, with nothing but the friction of a thumb and the sheerintensity of a gaze. His.
He hadn't even been inside her yet, and she was already a wreck in his hands. The realization of the power he had over her was staggering. It wasn't just physical; it was the eighteen months of built-up trust, the way he looked at her, and the raw honesty in his voice. He was ruinous.
He let out a low, shaky exhale, forehead dropping against her shoulder as he felt her muscles pulse against his hand. He sounded just as wrecked as she felt, his own body trembling with the effort of holding back.
For a long minute, the only sound was the frantic beat of two hearts and the distant hum of the city. Jungkook stayed between her legs, his hand lingering over her core, his touch now soft and protective. He pressed a lingering, heated kiss to the side of her neck.
"Y/n," he breathed, the name a jagged prayer against her skin.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his expression raw and triumphant. He reached up, catching a stray tear from her cheek with his thumb, his gaze scanning her flushed face.
"You're so beautiful like that," he muttered against her skin, his voice thick with emotion. "I could stay right here and watch you do that for the rest of my life."
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his expression raw and triumphant.
"You're shaking," he whispered, pulling back to look into her eyes. He reached up, his thumb brushing a stray hair from her face, his expression so raw and devoted it almost hurt to look at. "Is it the cold, Angel? Or is it me?"
Y/N shook her head, her hands still cupping his face, thumbs tracing the silver ring in his lip. "It's not the cold, Jungkook. It's never been the cold."
Jungkook’s hands stayed anchored on her thighs, fingers occasionally flexing as if he were still trying to convince himself she wasn't another 3:00 am hallucination.
Through the thin fabric of her sleep shirt and his tank top, she could feel every line of him: his muscular chest, the rapid-fire thud of his heart, and the overwhelming solidness of him.
"You're so sensitive for me," he murmured, his thumb giving one final, light stroke that made her hips twitch involuntarily.
It gave her a little sense of courage. She reached down, her hands sliding under the hem of his tank top. She felt him gasp against her as her palms finally made contact with his bare skin. His skin was hot, smooth, and incredibly firm. Her fingers traced the ridges of his ribs before moving up to the broad expanse of his back, feeling the intricate movement of his muscles as he leaned into her.
“Says you, Koo.” She flirted, with that twinkle and post cum glow to her eyes.
"I think we've spent enough time in the kitchen, Angel. I want to see what happens when there’s nothing left between us."
He hooked his arms under her thighs and lifted her off the counter in one fluid, powerful motion. She instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist, her arms locking behind his neck as he carried her out of the kitchen and down the hallway.
The door clicked shut behind them, the sound final and heavy, sealing the rest of the world away. Jungkook didn't set her down immediately. He backed her against the wood of the door, his body pinning her there as he recaptured her lips with a hunger that was almost frantic now that they were behind closed doors.
"Koo," she whimpered into the kiss, her hands finally finding what they had craved all night—sliding up under the hem of his tank top to feel the rippling muscle of his stomach.
He groaned, the sound vibrating through her entire frame. He let her slide down his body until her feet hit the plush carpet, but didn't let go. He pulled back just an inch, both of them gasping for the air that seemed to have vanished from the room. The only light came from the city skyline bleeding through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting him in a shadow.
As her eyes adjusted, she took it in, the room was a reflection of the man. It was modern and sleek, with black interior accents and a bed draped in heavy black silk sheets that caught the silver moonlight. On the walls, a couple of framed platinum records glowed; trophies of his hard work that he usually played down.
"You like it?" he asked, his voice low, noticing her gaze wandering. She had seen the room in passing, but being in it, felt different.
"I do," she whispered, meeting his eyes. "It’s very you."
"I'm not sure what that means," he murmured, a ghost of a smirk playing on his lips.
"It’s a good thing, Koo. A very good thing."
She punctuated the statement by pulling him into a kiss, and this time, he led her toward the bed. He laid her back against the cool silk sheets and immediately followed her down. He started low, his lips trailing along her thighs. As he moved upward, his hands worked with agonizing slowness, bunching the fabric of her sleep shirt and sliding it up with every kiss.
When his lips reached the swell of her chest, he stopped. He looked up at her, his dark eyes hooded and heavy. "May I?" he whispered, his hands hovering at the hem of her shirt.
She nodded, her breath hitching. He pulled the garment over her head and tossed it aside, leaving her in nothing but her black silk panties; soaked through as a direct result of his work in the kitchen.
She felt the cool air for only a second before Jungkook’s hands were back, his palms large and hot against her waist. He looked at her then, gaze traveling over her with a reverence that felt like he was touching her. He didn't just look at her; he worshipped her.
"God, Y/n," he breathed, gaze raking over her that made her feel like a masterpiece. "You're so beautiful"
"Your turn," she countered, her voice trembling slightly.
She reached for the hem of his tank top, and he sat up just enough to let her peel it off. As the fabric fell away, she finally saw it in full. The intricate, vibrent ink of his tattoos sprawled across his chest and down his arm like a map of his soul. The hard, defined lines of his abs shifting with every heavy breath he took. He was everything she had pictured and so much more; a masterpiece of strength and raw, masculine grace.
"Do you like it?" he asked, watching her fascination.
"I’ve always wondered what the rest of it looked like," she admitted, her thumb grazing a shaded curve on his shoulder. "I remember that night at the club... seeing just the edge of it under your tank top. I was in awe. I wanted to touch you right then and there."
Jungkook let out a dry, dark chuckle, his hand coming up to cover hers. "You should have. I would have done anything to be the one to take that red skirt off you that night. I wanted to kill every guy in that place who so much as blinked in your direction."
She smiled, a wicked little spark in her eyes. "I knew you seemed a little protective that night."
"A little?" He leaned over her, his weight pressing her back into the silk. "I almost strangled three different guys for breathing near you Y/n. I was losing my mind."
"I find it very hot," she whispered, her hands sliding down his chest to his waist. "Knowing you're that protective. And knowing that after tonight... no one but you gets to see me like this."
The air in the room thickened, the weight of her words hitting him harder than any physical touch could. At her confession, ungkook’s expression shifted. The possessiveness in his eyes turned into something darker. He looked like a man who had just been handed the keys to a kingdom he’d been besieging for years.
"Good," he rasped, his voice dropping into a register so low it was barely a whisper. "Because I don't know what I’d do if I can’t have you."
Y/N reached for the string of his sweatpants her fingers fumbling, desperate to feel the rest of him against her. But Jungkook’s hand shot down, his large palm covering hers and gently pinning her wrists to the silk sheets.
"Not yet," he murmured, a wicked, focused glint in his eyes. "I'm not nearly done making you feel good, Y/N. I have eighteen months of catching up to do."
He lowered his head, his lips finding the slope of her breast with a soft, lingering kiss before he took her nipple into his mouth. She let out a sharp, broken gasp, her back arching off the sheets as the heat of his tongue sent a jolt of electricity straight to her core.
He sucked on her skin slowly, which felt both like pleasure and punishment, while his other hand captured her other breast. His thumb brushed over the peak in a steady, maddening circle, his splayed fingers kneading the soft flesh.
"Koo..." she whimpered, her free hand tangling in his hair, pulling him closer. “Feels so good.”
He didn't stop. He was thorough, moving with the same deliberate devotion he’d shown in the kitchen, but the gentleness was gone. It was replaced by a raw hunger. He trailed his kisses down her ribs, nose brushing her skin, inhaling her scent as if he were memorizing it.
He moved lower, his lips grazing her hip bone before he peppered slow, stinging kisses along the insides of her thighs. She was losing her mind, her breath coming in shallow, frantic hitches as she felt the weight of him between her legs.
Then, he hovered over her core.
The only thing left of her was the thin, black silk panties. Jungkook paused, his dark eyes looking up at her, watching her face as he leaned down. Instead of pulling the fabric away, he pressed his mouth directly against the silk.
The sensation was overwhelming; the heat of his breath and the dampness of his tongue through the already soaked, thin material made her head hit the pillow with a thud. As he kissed, his tongue started tracing the line of her through the silk, seemingly fascinated by the texture and the way she reacted to the indirect contact.
"You're so sensitive," he rasped, voice vibrating against her, his voice muffled from the fabric. "Every time I move, I feel you shaking."
“I- I can’t help it,” She stutters, eyes closed from the sensation.
He used his nose to nudge the silk aside just a fraction, his lips finding the sensitive skin of her inner thigh again before returning to the covered center. The combination of the friction, the silk, and the raw intensity of his focus was a sensory overload. Y/N’s hands clutched the sheets, her knuckles white, as she felt the "Experience" he had promised her finally taking over every thought in her head.
"Jungkook... please," she whimpered, her voice breaking.
He pulled back just enough to look up at her, his face flushed, his silver lip ring glistening in the moonlight. "What do you want, Angel?"
The nickname sent a fresh jolt of electricity straight to her core. "I want you, Koo. Please, I just want you."
A slow, predatory smirk spread across his face. "You need to be more specific, baby," he provoked, his voice a low growl. "Tell me exactly what you want me to do to you."
The use of "baby" was the final straw. Her dignity vanished, replaced by a raw, unfiltered need. "I want you to eat me out," she gasped, her face heating as she said the words aloud. "I want to feel your tongue on me. Please, Koo."
"Good girl," he whispered, the praise making her heart skip a beat.
He’s going to be the death of my being, she thought as she watched him worship her.
In one swift motion, he hooked his thumbs into the silk of her panties and stripped them down her legs, tossing them somewhere into the shadows of the room. He didn't hesitate. He parted her legs wide, settling himself between her thighs, and dived in.
It was nothing like the "research" she had read about. It was primal. His tongue was firm and rhythmic, lashing over her clit with a practiced precision that told her he had spent those long nights imagining exactly how she would taste. He used his fingers to spread her open, his eyes staying locked on her face for a moment so he could watch the way her expression shattered.
He moved with a relentless pace, his suction on her clit deep as he swirled his tongue around her, drinking her in as if he were starving. Y/N’s hands flew to the headboard, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the wood, her voice rising in a series of broken, needy sounds that filled the quiet room. He was thorough, his tongue tracing her with a focus that was terrifyingly absolute. He used the slight, sharp graze of his lip ring against her most sensitive part to drive her into a state of wordless, vibrating sensation.
He tasted her with a desperate, thirsty intensity, his large, tattooed hands sliding under her hips to lift her, anchoring her to him so she couldn't retreat from the pleasure he was pinning her with.
Her world narrowed down to the scent of his skin; cedarwood and heat, and the rhythmic, drowning pressure of his mouth. She reached for him, her nails digging into the hard, bunched muscles of his shoulders as she pulled him closer, her legs tightening around his head in a desperate plea.
"Koo, please," she gasped, her knuckles white as she gripped his hair.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his face flushed, lips soaked in her essence and his breath coming in jagged, heavy hitches. He looked like a man who had finally found exactly what he had been searching for in the dark for eighteen months.
But he wasn't finished. Not yet.
He moved back up her body, the friction of his tattooed skin against hers creating a trail of sparks. Instead of moving for her lips, he braced himself on one arm, his dark gaze locked onto hers. He brings his other hand up to his lips and spits on them sliding them down, tracing the curve of her hip, before his slick fingers find her soaked cunt that he had just been tasting.
Y/N’s breath hitched, a soft, broken sound leaving her throat as he touched her. He slid one long, agile finger inside her, his eyes flaring at the way she gasped, her body coiling around him instantly. He was slow and agonizingly thorough, his thumb finding the center of her pleasure and applying a steady, maddening pressure.
"Koo," she whimpered, her head thrashing back against the pillow.
"Look at me," he rasped, his voice dropping into that possessive, private register.
He added a second finger, his pace increasing, mimicking the steady, driving rhythm she she experienced in the kitchen not that long ago. He watched the way her pupils dilated, the way her lips parted as she struggled to catch her breath. He wanted to see it all; the way her skin flushed, the way her muscles tensed, the way he was the only thing she could feel.
"You're so tight for me," he whispered, a dark, triumphant smirk ghosting over his lips as he felt the first tremors of her release beginning to take hold. "Tell me, Angel. In your draft... did you write that he makes her scream his name?"
Before she could answer, he increased the pressure, his fingers moving with a practiced precision. Y/N’s world shattered into a thousand bright points of light. She arched off the bed, her nails digging into his tatted bicep that was causing her to scream, her voice breaking as she finally gave him exactly what he asked for; sobbing his name into the quiet of the room as she came apart under his touch.
Jungkook didn't let her go. He watched her until the last of the tremors faded, his expression still held that devoted hunger. He shifted, his body settling between her thighs, but he didn't move to enter her. Instead, he braced himself on his forearms, trembling slightly from the effort of holding back. The sincerity in his eyes was almost too much to bear; he wasn't just looking at her, he was seeing every version of her he’d known for the last year and a half.
The raw vulnerability in his eyes was staggering; he looked like a man who had been wandering in the dark and had finally been shown the sun. He let out a broken, shaky laugh, his forehead dropping against hers.
He kissed her then. It was a slow, wet, and devastatingly honest kiss that tasted of promises and her residue.
"I can't wait any longer," he rasped, the words sounding like a confession. "If I don't get inside you right now, I'm going to lose my mind."
Y/N reached down, her fingers trembling as she found the waistband of his sweatpants. "Then don't wait. Please, Koo. I need to feel you."
As Jungkook sat back on his heels to deal with his sweatpants, Y/N’s breath hitched in her throat. Even through the heavy fabric of his sweatpants, she couldn't help but notice the prominent, heavy bludge straining against the material. It was a visual confirmation of exactly how much he had been holding back.
When he finally pushed the fabric down and kicked it away, the silence in the room became absolute.
Now, Y/n had been around; she wasn't some naive lead in a romance novel. She’d had her share of partners and the one night stands, but she had never seen anything like the sight before her. Jungkook was, quite literally, a sight for sore eyes. He was built with the same powerful, thick precision as the rest of his body; raw, intimidating, and undeniably beautiful in the silver moonlight.
Oh, so that’s why he made me cum first…twice, she thought dizzily, her pulse hammering in her ears.
Jungkook noticed her wide-eyed silence, a flicker of that shy, "Good Guy" roommate returning for a split second as he shifted his weight. "Y/N? You okay?"
She swallowed hard, her gaze flickering back up to his. "I... yeah. Just didn’t realize you were hiding all that, Koo."
A dark, smug smirk ghosted over his lips. He climbed back onto the bed, crawling towards her and reached out to the nightstand, his hand fumbling in the drawer for a moment before his movements went still. He let out a low, frustrated curse, his forehead dropping against her shoulder.
“What’s wrong?” She asked, hand landing on the nape of his neck.
"Y/n... I don’t have condoms," he rasped, his voice thick with a mix of desire and sheer disbelief at his own lack of preparation.
Y/N blinked, the haze of pleasure clearing just enough for a teasing smirk to tug at her lips. "You’re joking. What, Jungkook? You just never wear protection?"
He pulled back, looking genuinely offended for a split second before a flush that had nothing to do with exertion crept up his neck. "No. I just... I haven't had the need to buy them in a long time."
The implication hit her like a physical weight. "Wait. So you really were just at the studio until 3:00 AM those nights? You weren't... out?"
Jungkook’s brow furrowed, his dark eyes searching hers. "You thought I was having sex with someone else late at night?" He let out a dry, incredulous laugh. "Angel, I could barely focus on a drum track without thinking about what you. I wasn't looking for anyone else."
The honesty in his voice made her heart skip. She decided to ignore his questioning look, instead reaching up to pull him down into a deep, bruising kiss that tasted like an apology and a promise. When she pulled back, she was breathless.
"Stay here," she whispered. "I have some in my drawer."
She scrambled out of bed, her bare skin glowing in the moonlight as she dashed to her room and back. She returned with a small foil packet, tossing it to him. Jungkook caught it, but as he went to put it on, his movements slowed. He looked at the condom, then back at her, an awkward, almost pained expression on his face.
"Y/N... this isn't going to work."
"No," he muttered, his ears turning a bright shade of red that she could see even in the dim light. "It’s... it’s too small. I can't even get it past the head without it feeling like it's going to snap.”
Y/N stared at him, her gaze dropping for a second before she looked back up, her cheeks heating. "Oh. Right. Well. I guess my emergency stash wasn't prepared for... that."
The silence stretched for a heartbeat, tension thick and heavy. She bit her lip, her voice dropping to a serious tone this time. "Are you clean, Jungkook?"
"Yes," he said instantly, his gaze unwavering. "I’ve never done it raw with anyone, ever. And the last time I got tested was a year ago. I haven't even been on a date since then. I'm clean, I promise you."
"Me too," she admitted, her fingers tangling in the sheets. "I’ve never done it without protection either. And I’m clean, too. I promise."
They looked at each other, the weight of the decision hanging in the air. This wasn't just a physical choice anymore; it was the ultimate act of trust. To give someone that part of yourself, with no barriers, was the "Ending" neither of them had dared to write.
He moved over her then, and this time, there was no hesitation. When he finally enter her, the sensation was so much more intense than either of them had prepared for.
Her breath hitched, her eyes closed as she felt the sheer, overwhelming fullness of him. It was a slow, beautiful stretch. He let out a low groan, eyes fluttering shut for a split second as he felt her warmth surround him, finally claiming him in the way he had always dreamed.
He moved with a slow, agonizingly deep thrust that made her world tilt on its axis.
Without the barrier, every movement felt like a revelation. Jungkook’s skin against hers was scorching, and the sheer, unmasked friction of him inside her was pushing them both toward a cliff they were more than ready to jump off. He moved with a heavy, driving pace, One of his hands locked with hers and pinned to the silk pillows, his dark eyes fixed on her face as if he were trying to memorize the way her soul was baring itself to him.
"You're so... perfect," he rasped, the word breaking in his throat. He leaned down, his lips brushing against her ear, his hot breath sending shivers down her spine. "I’m never letting you go back to that other room. You hear me? This is your bed now. This is where you stay."
She let out a breathy giggle but couldn't find the words to answer. She could only wrap her legs tighter around his waist, pulling him deeper, her nails grazing the ink on his shoulder. Every time he moved, it felt as if he were stitching their lives together. The rhythm was a steady fire that made the city lights outside the window blur into a haze of silver.
He began to pick up the pace, his composure finally fraying at the edges. His movements became more urgent, more possessive, his chest sliding against hers in a friction of heat and sweat. He caught her other hand, his fingers interlacing with hers so tightly it was impossible to tell where she ended and he began.
She was drowning in him; in the scent of cedarwood, the silver of his lip ring grazing her skin, and the overwhelming weight of his body crushing her into the black silk.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, face flushed and expression one of raw, agonizing devotion.
"Y/N," he gasped, his voice a low, jagged rumble. "I'm close. I’m so close, Angel."
He paused for a heartbeat, his body trembling with the effort of his restraint, his gaze burning into hers. "Where? Where do you want it? Tell me where to put it."
Y/N’s world was spinning, her body vibrating with the aftershocks of the pleasure he was giving her. She looked up at him, her fingers tangling in the hair at the nape of his neck, and the answer felt like the final seal on their new reality.
"Inside," she breathed, her voice a broken, needy whisper. "I want you inside me, Koo. Everywhere."
Jungkook’s body went rigid for a split second, his muscles tensed under her hands. He pulled back just enough to look her in the eyes, his face etched with a desperate struggle for control. Even now, at the absolute edge, he was looking out for her.
"Are you sure?" he rasped, his voice cracking. "Y/n, I'm serious, once I start, I won't be able to—"
"I'm sure, baby," she interrupted, her hands sliding down to cup his face, her thumbs tracing the silver in his lip. "It’s okay. I'm on the pill."
Knowing she was prepared, knowing she was choosing this with her eyes wide open, was the final permission he needed to let go of the restraint.
"Look at me," he commanded, his voice a low, beautiful growl. "I want you to see me when it happens. I want you to know exactly who is doing this to you."
The intensity in his gaze was staggering. He looked at her with a raw, desperate devotion; the "Good Guy" and the man who wanted to claim her, both present in the same gaze.
As the tension reached its breaking point, Y/N’s breath hitched, her head thrashed back against the pillow. She called out his name, a broken, needy sound that seemed to be the final trigger for him.
He drove into her one last time, deeper than he had all night, his head thrashing back as he finally let go. He held her with a strength that was staggering, his heart drumming a frantic, matching rhythm against hers as he claimed her in the most permanent way he could. The heat of him filling her was the final "collision" he had promised; a merging that made the walls of the apartment, the research, and the long wait all disappear into the black silk sheets.
Silence descended on the room, broken only by the sound of their labored breathing and the distant hum of the city. He didn't move; he stayed buried deep within her, his weight a grounding presence. He kissed the pulse point at her neck, his lips lingering there as his breathing slowly began to even out.
"Y/N," he whispered, his voice thick with an emotion she had never heard before.
"I'm here, koo" she breathed, her fingers tracing the intricate ink on his chest, feeling the slow steady thrum of his heart.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his eyes soft and devoted. He reached out, his thumb tracing her lower lip. "You're mine now," he murmured.
“And you’re mine.” She kissed his thumb, tracing his hand with her own as they both stared into each others eyes. He eventually shifted, but only to pull the black silk duvet up over their tangled limbs. He reached out to the nightstand, grabbing a small pack of unscented baby wipes he kept in the drawer; now repurposed for something far more intimate.
"Stay still," he whispered, his voice a low, soothing vibration.
Y/N started to move, a bit self-conscious in the sudden quiet, but his hand on her hip was firm yet gentle. "Koo, I can—"
"I’ve got you," he interrupted, pressing a soft kiss to her shoulder.
With agonizing tenderness, he began to clean her. He was slow and thorough, his touch lacking any of the frantic hunger from before, replaced by a quiet, steady reverence. He wiped away the traces of their shared heat with the care of someone handling something priceless. When he was finished, he didn't stop there.
He slipped out of bed for a moment, returning with a warm, damp washcloth from the en-suite bathroom. He tucked himself back under the covers and wiped her face, cleaning away the salt of her tears and the flush of her skin.
"Yeah," she breathed, feeling a different kind of "unraveled" now. This wasn't the explosive high of the climax; it was the steady, grounding realization that he actually cared.
He pulled her into his chest, her back against his front, his tattooed arm draping over her waist to pull her flush against him. He began to massage the muscles of her thighs and lower back, his large hands working out the tension from where she’d been gripping him.
"My legs feel like jelly," she confessed, her voice muffled by the pillow.
"That's my fault," he chuckled softly, his breath warm against the back of her neck. He pressed his face into her hair, inhaling deeply. "I told you I wouldn't be able to stop. I'm sorry if I was too much."
"Don't you dare apologize," she turned slightly in his arms to look at him. "It was exactly what I wanted. Every bit of it."
Jungkook’s eyes softened, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw. He leaned down, kissing her nose, then her forehead, then finally her lips; slow, sweet, and tasted like a promise.
"Go to sleep, Angel," he whispered, tightening his hold on her. "I'm right here. I'll be right here when you wake up."
As Y/N felt herself drifting off, the last thing she felt was the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart against her back and the feeling of him tucking the covers around her shoulders, making sure not a single inch of her was cold.
The first thing Y/N became aware of was the weight of the black silk sheets against her bare skin. The second was the silence.
She shifted, her muscles giving her a gentle, humming reminder of exactly why her body felt so beautifully spent. Her hand drifted to the empty space beside her, feeling for the lingering warmth of the mattress. It was there, but Jungkook was gone.
Her heart gave a sharp, anxious thud against her ribs. She sat up abruptly, clutching the silk to her chest, her eyes darting around the charcoal-colored room. The city was bright outside now, a stark contrast to the shadows of the night before. His clothes were gone from the floor. The door was closed.
Did he regret it? The thought tasted like ash.
Just as the spiral of doubt began to tighten, the sound of the door handle turning made her freeze.
He was in nothing but a pair of low-slung grey joggers, his hair a mess, and his tattooed arm steady as he balanced a tray. The scent of dark roast coffee and buttered toast filled the air, cutting through the lingering musk of the night.
He stopped when he saw her sitting up, a soft, boyish smile breaking across his face; the one he usually reserved just for her.
"Hey," he murmured, his voice still raspy from sleep and the way he’d used it the night before. "I didn't mean to wake you. I thought I could sneak back in before you realized I was gone."
He stopped at the foot of the bed, his dark eyes lighting up the moment they landed on her. He looked at her with such adoration that she felt more exposed now than she had when she was naked.
"I thought you’d gone to the studio," she admitted, her voice small.
Jungkook set the tray on the nightstand and immediately climbed onto the bed, crawling toward her until he could tuck a stray hair behind her ear. "The studio can wait. Everything can wait.I don’t want to miss out on this. Us."
He handed her the coffee. She took a sip and felt a stray tear prick at her eyes. It was perfect. The exact amount of sugar, the hint of cinnamon; the way he’d been making it for her for over a year, back when he could only show his love through small, silent gestures.
"You're still doing it," she whispered. "The coffee. The looking after me."
His expression turning serious as he took the mug from her hand and set it down so he could take both of her hands in his. He brought her knuckles to his lips, his silver lip ring cool against her skin. "This is just... how it’s going to be. No more pretending we're just roommates. No more guys who don't deserve you."
He leaned in, his forehead resting against hers, his breath smelling of the coffee they both shared. "You said last night you wanted the man you deserve. I’m going to spend the rest of my life making sure I’m him."
Y/N smiled, reaching up to trace the ink on his shoulder, the spirals she had finally seen in full. "I think you’ve already got the job, Koo."
He let out a low, satisfied huff of a laugh and pulled her into a kiss before handing her back the coffee from the tray.
She looked at him over the rim of the mug, her eyes trailing over his bare, tattooed chest and the way his grey sweatpants hung low on his hips, revealing the sharp lines of his waist.
"What time do you have to be at the studio today?" she asked, her voice dropping into a playful, velvety tone.
Jungkook checked the clock on the wall, then looked back at her, a slow smirk beginning to spread across his face. "Not until one. Why? You got a movie marathon planned?"
Y/N set the coffee mug down on the tray with a deliberate clink. She leaned back into the black silk pillows, letting the duvet slip down just enough to be dangerous, her gaze locked onto his.
"I was thinking," she began, her fingers tracing the edge of the sheet. "I’m not actually that hungry for food anymore. I think I want something else for breakfast."
Jungkook’s brow arched, his dark eyes instantly sparking with a heat that hadn't cooled since the night before. He moved closer, crawling over the mattress until he was hovering directly over her, his arms caging her in just like he had on the kitchen counter.
"Oh yeah?" he rasped, his voice dropping into that low, possessive register that made her toes curl. "And what exactly did you have in mind, Angel?"
"You," she whispered, reaching up to hook her arms around his neck, pulling him down until his lips were brushing hers. "I want you, Koo. Again."
He didn't need any more encouragement. He leaned forward, his mouth crashing against hers in a kiss that was even more desperate than the ones from the night before, because this time, there was no hesitation. No "research." No walls.
"Round two, then," he muttered against her lips, his hands already working to find every spot he’d mapped out in the dark. "But don't complain when you can't walk to the kitchen for lunch."
Y/N laughed into the kiss, pulling him closer, her heart full and her body ready for everything he had promised.
Jungkook - Studio 3 1:05pm
The heavy glass doors of BigHit swung open, and Jungkook practically glided through the lobby. Usually, he was the guy with his hood up, AirPods in, and a "don’t talk to me until I’ve had my americano" aura.
Today? Today, Jungkook was a menace of sunshine.
"Morning, Min-ho! Looking sharp today," he chirped at the security guard, who nearly dropped his clipboard in shock.
He moved through the hallways with a spring in his step, humming a melody that definitely wasn't on the official production schedule. Every staff member he passed got a nod, a grin, or a "Hey, great job on that mix yesterday." By the time he reached the private production wing, the rumors were already flying that he’d either won the lottery or finally finished the album of the century.
He reached the corner office and didn't even bother knocking. He pushed the door open to find Namjoon hunched over a lyric sheet and Taehyung spinning aimlessly in a high-end ergonomic chair.
Namjoon looked up, his brow furrowing as he took in the sight of Jungkook. He didn't just look happy; he looked settled. Radiating. There was a smug, quiet triumph in the set of his shoulders that hadn't been there twenty-four hours ago.
"Uh, JK?" Namjoon asked, setting his pen down. "Did you swallow a lightbulb? You’re vibrant."
Taehyung stopped spinning, his eyes narrowing as he scanned his best friend. He took in the slight puffiness of Jungkook’s lips and the way he couldn't seem to stop the corner of his mouth from twitching upward.
Slowly, a boxy grin began to spread across Taehyung’s face. He kicked off the desk, rolling his chair toward Jungkook. "No way."
Jungkook leaned against the doorframe, crossing his arms over his chest. He looked at Taehyung, his eyes bright with a secret that was way too big for the room.
"Tae," Jungkook said, his voice dropping into that grounded, honest register. "You were right."
Taehyung didn't just celebrate; he ascended. He let out a loud, triumphant "YES!" and punched the air, spinning his chair in a frantic circle of victory. "I knew it! I told you! I told you she was just waiting for you to stop being a polite idiot!"
Namjoon chuckled, shaking his head as he leaned back. "I take it the roommate situation has... evolved?"
"Evolved isn't the word, Joon," Jungkook muttered, his mind briefly flashing back to the black silk sheets and the way Y/n had looked at him in the morning light. "It’s over. We’re... we’re it."
Taehyung finally stopped his chair, breathing hard from the excitement. He leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with the kind of chaotic energy only a best friend can possess.
"Okay, okay," Taehyung said, holding up his hands. "Now, I know I said I don't want the details... but give me all the details."
