My first thought is fury. Rage and fury at the pain she gleefully heaps upon people who just want to exist in this world.

Then my thought it sadness for the millions of people (trans, especially) who love Harry Potter, who found comfort and fellowship in the books, movies, and fandom, who woke up one day to find out the woman who created it all is a hateful, ignorant, cruel, despicable person who is beyond redemption.

I've written extensively about separating the art from the artist, especially as it relates to projects that are the result of many hands. In this case, it's not that difficult to separate those wonderful books and everything they meant to my son, from the woman who wrote them.

It breaks my heart that she told this story about a world where someone who is unseen and bullied is actually extremely special, turned out to be this hateful piece of shit.

And I come to feeling so disappointed, which I imagine is nothing compared to the people who rightly feel betrayed.

Which brings me right back to fury. Shame on JK Rowling. I hope she is remembered as this virulent, hateful, cruel, selfish and ignorant bigot who also wrote some books that a generation loved in spite of her. And hopefully her estate makes some efforts to repair the harm she's caused, once she's gone from this world.
