Laughter spiked across the booth. Kirishima and Kaminari had Sero halfway doubled over with some story about their high school team tripping over a stray dog mid-game. Even Shouto’s mouth twitched like he almost considered smiling. Katsuki didn’t laugh—he never did—but he leaned close, shoulder pressed to Kirishima’s, chopsticks moving quick, scowl sharp but familiar.

Izuku’s chest knotted. He’d called it jealousy before, but maybe that wasn’t the right word. This wasn’t envy—it was the ache of missing someone who used to be his, in that messy, childhood way no one else would ever really understand. Watching Katsuki fit somewhere else only pressed on the bruise.

He swallowed hard, the curry thick in his throat. Maybe it didn’t matter what word he used. The ache stayed the same.
