Arrival; Circa Early 2000s

There were always things to be learned; this is what would keep the vampire going all these years without any contact with the ever-changing world (other than the quick bite, obviously, a girl has to eat). So, that was her life since the second Great War had ended; alone, in Scotland, studying, pouring over her father’s journals that were left to her after his untimely death, learning anything she could to further her medical education, and watching the world spin on. It was in her father’s tomes that she would find coordinates to an unknown place, a place that was said to be wrapped in magic like her little island.

And curiosity always got the best of Katherine.

Even when she knew better.

There wasn’t a lot of information to be had, just nearby coordinates and small notations from her father about some similarities between her island and this place; all that would do is pique the blonde’s interest further and spur her headlong into something… someplace, she really knew absolutely nothing about.

So, why exactly would she shift her shadows to dump her and a whole lot of trunks in the middle of an empty street?

And why would she leave all her belongings out in the open like that to edge closer to a magical border that she would later learn, could never let anyone like her leave?

It all boils down to one thing and one thing only.

Because she can.

♔ A PEEK INSIDE — HEADCANONS

Born in 1898, Katherine was raised in both the Highlands Scotland and France by loving and devoted parents who encouraged her love of languages, ballet, and music; in short, she was raised a lady. For a short time, that is. She wouldn’t know the true nature of their travels until she was an adult. Like her father, Katherine would eventually attend Edinburgh Medical College. She would never officially become a doctor, but through her own studies, she would become highly advanced in a multitude of sciences. In 1910, her mother would “disappear”, which prompted her father to tap into a family history of magic and sentence her daughter a lonely life on an island called St Serf’s Inch, a barrier around the island would prevent anyone, human or not, from seeing the small cottage, along with keeping most from even approaching the island at all, something Katherine would later learn from her father’s journals. It was her protection and her curse.

It would be the celebration of Litha in 1921 that she’d learn exactly why she should have stayed inside the protection of the magic; unfortunately, she was just as headstrong as her Scottish forefathers were and instead of heeding the warnings, she would attend the festivities for Midsummer. Long story short; her mother had not disappeared but fell to the same monster her parents hunted. Corrupted by that change, she would kill her husband and daughter. Her daughter, just didn’t quite die in the traditional sense of things and in the 40’s while the world was at war, Katherine would meet other beings that would show her how to kill the woman who had birthed her.

Katherine has remained studious, pouring over her father’s journals and other medical books, feasting on knowledge, that she had one day hoped would help to cure the bloodlust burning through her veins; a mix of science and magic (and quite possibly madness), she really thinks she’s a God, creating life from nothing. Unfortunately, there is always a price to pay and tapping into the magic of the fae, harnessing it for selfish reasons, well, it may have just left Katherine a little bit cracked. Sometimes. But now she can manipulate the shadows to do her bidding, including walking through them undetected; unless she has forgotten she drinking from a blood bag/capri sun, that slurping noise will give her away every time.

The magic surrounding Blackvale would pique her interest, there is no way she’d be able to ignore the curse woven into the fabric of the land; much like her own island. She would need to stay there to and clearly she wouldn’t be able to leave.
