It doesn’t mean destroying yourself so they can stay afloat. It doesn’t mean handing over your sanity just to keep them from falling.

I tried. I really did. I bent backwards until I broke. I gave money, time, energy, everything she demanded—until there was nothing left of me.

But the thing about narcissistic mothers is that they don’t want help. They want control. And if you stop playing along, they’ll call it betrayal.

Walking away nearly shattered me. But staying would have done worse. Sometimes, saving yourself means letting go of someone you love.

And it hurts. God, it hurts.
